I don't think I'd break out a welcome to the Christian church by going to see Gibson's rendition of the "Passion." The scourging scenes are horrific.

Oh, and I'm really looking forward to "Blue Like Jazz," being released soon. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It's about a guy's own spiritual journey. It's sort of the non-Christian, Christian book. You might want to read that book and see if that's more your cup of tea.

Gotta mention Hunger Games. I read the book when I was layed up from surgery. Amazing story line, IMO. the movie wasn't quite as good as the book(they never are) but it's still a good movie. 2 thumbs up!

Ape, you're family should watch A Walk to Remember to get some religion in your kids. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll sigh and go awwwwww. The christian perspective is there, but the main character doesn't push it on anyone, she just lives it. My girls loved it. Also, it was filmed in Wilmington, NC so thats pretty cool too.

(not a religious flick and definitely not for kids)

We Need To Talk About Kevin.
Tilda Swinton is amazing but the movie is completely disturbing.

Ye bit, thanx, I thank we'll go with that one. Hyway I'll put that on my que at the top too. Apparently I'm not providing religious guidance to go along with the solid morals in my at-home parenting...... .... .........

Strat the kiddies brought home all A's and 3 B's this go-around, so we took them to see Hunger Games. This is one of the very few exceptions where we've seen the movie BEFORE reading the books, but we did it none-the-less. It was the reward they wanted, so they deserved it. They're starting to read it now.

Boy does that look interesting, I need for my brother to get it to watch for his lil boy (shiver). But NetFlix don't have it yet. I've got it on my watch list tho.

Ape, I just looked and it seems A Walk to Remember isn't on Netflix Instant anymore. What a shame, your girls would have loved it and its got a great message. The rating on netflix is 3.1 but thats because the ratings are almost all 5 stars and 1 stars with a few 2 and 4's scattered in.

Hyway I got it on #2, but ye it's not on Instant now, bummer.

Strat my wife did the first one in a few nights, we did have to wait til Mom finished the book before we could go to our theater.

wattched The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo last night... maybe I'm missing something or should've read the book or something but I wasn't very impressed. The story itself was okay, but I kept hearing so much about the Lisbeth character being so awesome and I just didn't see it. I think her inclusion (or at least her character) is there just to add sex to the story - because, hey, boobs sell

The movie did a poor job of telling her story. She's a very complicated character in the books.

I always prefer books to the movie. Seeing the movie after reading the books puts a nice visual picture to the information I already know. So when a character does something in a movie I already know all the reasons why they are doing it besides only what the filmmaker was able to fit onto the screen.

Tonight we broke out the popcorn and for movie night pulled a B Sci-Fi off the list, Hardware. Nobody gave up on it, but we came up with only a 1-star. Nearly a 2, but we just couldn't give it that much. Some ppl gave it 5 stars .... musta been hi.

I think the people on a films production team are the first people to rate it when it hits redbox. So they have early good ratings until the regular people start watching.

thank you very much bitpusher
Bit, we've seen half of The Greatest Story Ever Told. LAWNG one tobesure, at 3 hrs and 19 minutes. I keep waiting on Charlton Heston to say "Get your hands off me you damn dirty ape!" to them Roman and Egyptian soldiers. His head's gone now tho. Being from the 60's, the movie ain't holding their attention too awfully much. I had to tell Silas to shut his pie-hole or he's going straight to hell ! Well, not really, but I did have to remind him this ain't no Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie.

I just saw on the flyer that that ole John Wayne is a Roman soldier at the crucifixion!

My wife texted that if there's Heston and JW it has to suck. I told her the fars iz being stoked in hell for her.

By the way yawl, Happy Easter!

Finished hunger games 2. Whoa! We have the 3rd one on Kindel. I'm not sure about reading it on this stupid little screen on my iPhone but I'll give it a shot.

LOL on the kids reaction to old movies. My kids are like that about Black and white films but I have shown them enough cool movies from the 60's-80's that they don't automatically grimace when I mention an old movie.

Older movies are more plot and character driven than today's movies are. Characters are more deeply developed. Hollywood movies these days pretty much use stereotype characters and just jump right into the action and never stray to far from the action. I say Hollywood movies are like that, but you can find plenty of independent filmmakers that don't assume you will get to bored if they don't thrill you every second.

Oops
I forgot how long it is. It doesn't really matter which generation, it's hard to keep a kid's attention for that long. Maybe try King of Kings? It's a little shorter and not so many starrrrrrs.

bump
Now that summer's on, we've racked up a few popcorn nights.

Oldy westerns:
FORT APACHE - black and white, man they totally gave up on that one, a shame too that I Iet'em bail, it showed an example of how history and actual historical facts can be very skewed (in a purely fictional sense)
WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE: they were very skeptical of the movie title, it just don't fit into their idea of what movies should be titled, but nachurly they loved this one. Of particular interest was Crispin Glover, we have his cd with his masturbator and clowny clown songs, so him being on there was a bit of a mind freak for them.

So I continued with the above western trilogy.......

SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON: by gosh I didn't let them out of this one, but it was at least in color. Older movies are just too slow in it's story telling for modern kids used to Hollywood action schytte, and the required singing ..... they just ain't digging that whatsoever.

then lastly, last night
RIO GRANDE: ok so this was the last in the trilogy, but it was in black and white.... didn't thrill the kids much, I bout had to restrain my 13 yr old ......"ok so you wanna ditch huh, I'll be taking your electronic gadgets for a while" ..... However, my lil man, 9, is becoming a classic lover, he insisted that RIO GRANDE was a 4*, lol.

Coming in the mail for next movie night: WESTWORLD

Hyway... back to what we were talking about before Christmas, bout holy roly movies to teach the kids a thang or 2 from the good book.....

We just got from Netflix your suggested A Walk To Remember.

Last week we watched WestWorld ..... kids gave it a 3 stars, their idea of future technology cracked'em up.

Aiight Hyway, we did it, pretty good one, thanx. It is a chicks flix tho, my kids never were too up on them. Atter some discussion (now they know what leukemia is) they settled on 3 stars, but I'll hafta admit it just barely made it.

They gave WestWorld a clear and strong 3 stars, and A Walk To Remember eeked out 3 also, but for a bit I didn't think it'd take, hehe.
