They are big fans of the book. One of the girls that went with them had not read it and also loved the movie.” 6:08:03 AM 2/11/09 “i'd really like to see caroline, ive liked his other works and would like to see it in 3-D, i saw my bloody valentine in 3-D and it was pretty cool.” 6:23:14 AM 2/11/09 “Abby and I went and saw "Monsters VS. Aliens" in 3D last night. My first newer 3D movie (aside from at Disney). It was awesome. The movie didn't have as many lol moments as I thought it would but it had a great message and loads of action. I rate it 3 1/2 stars.” 5:01:55 AM 3/29/09 “I want to see Monsters vs. Aliens - thanks, Sass. my daughter and I enjoyed The Race to Witch Mountain. It was entertaining.” 12:16:52 AM 3/30/09 “I loved those Witch mtn movies as a kid! I think mine would be scared (she's such a chicken at movies).” 5:24:02 AM 3/30/09 “I saw the trailer for the new Peter Jackson movie District 9. Looks pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZnpzfcMheA” 5:31:38 AM 7/09/09 “Watched "Grand Torino" with my son the other night...GREAT MOVIE” 5:34:57 AM 7/09/09 “I saw that trailer, too, Nigal. It does look good. Obviously an allegory for current societal paranoia, methinks...” 8:11:44 AM 7/09/09 “On the surface this looks like another scare tactic movie along the lines of An Inconvenient Truth but the difference is this one is based on facts. I heard an interview with the film maker on a podcast and rather than taking the "Look what we're doing to Mother Earth! Humans are evil!", approach, he takes the "Look where our food comes from and what the real cost of cheap food is.". Food Inc.” 2:00:35 AM 7/23/09 “HPM and I did catch Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince last week. I enjoyed it very much, despite many changes to the storyline. It was much, much better than OOTP.” 8:28:36 AM 7/23/09 “I'm looking forward to "Inglorious Bastards". the previews for it look great!” 8:39:24 AM 7/23/09 “Laurel and I just saw "Ponyo," the latest offering from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. Definitely one for the kids, but very enjoyable. Except for the music during the credits. Some things should stay in Japanese. Yikes.” 12:10:30 PM 8/14/09 LOL “Already I have heard from a few people who don’t want to see it “because it’s Japanese.” This is solid-gold ignorance. “Is it only dubbed?” I was asked. You dummy! All animated films are dubbed! Little Nemo can’t really speak! http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090812/REVIEWS/908129989” 12:01:21 PM 8/15/09 “ ”1:42:30 PM 8/15/09 “My daughter is a huge anime fan and saw Ponyo Friday. She said the dubbing was awful, but she watching anime on teh big screen is worth putting up with it. But she watches Japanese anime in Japanese all the time, so she isn't an unbiased observer. My other daughter and my son and I are leaving to watch it right now” 12:09:09 PM 8/16/09 “I never understood the attraction to anime. The vast majority of it is just bad animation with even worse storyline.” 6:11:47 PM 8/16/09 “I never understood the attraction to anime. The vast majority of it is just bad animation with even worse storyline.” 6:11:48 PM 8/16/09 “Neither did I. Not me either.” 6:23:45 PM 8/16/09 “The vast majority of it is just bad animation with even worse storyline.” i agree, but miyazaki's work is on another level altogether. watch "spirited away" or "princess mononoke" to see what i mean. pure cinematic magic” 7:31:07 AM 8/17/09 “anime is no different than regular cartoons in that what is made for kids can be pretty crappy. But you would be surprised at how good it can be done right. I am not much of an anime fan, but my kids are so I see a lot of it. We went to a local anime showing and the film selected was a movie about the life of a very popular poet who was a bit of a dissedent. It was like watching a Lifetime movie. Another showing we went to was of these two brothers who were orphaned and their life growing up in Japan during WWII. The fire bombing of his city was pretty neatly done.” 7:43:05 AM 8/17/09 “Akira rocks. I want to see District 9...” 7:43:09 AM 8/17/09 “The last two movies I saw put my faith back in the cinema - Coraline and just last week, 50 Dead Men Walking. Out of this world fantastic.” 9:04:40 AM 8/17/09 “That's interesting you say that Crash because I was going to give the one single exception to what I wrote and that is Princess Mononoke.” 1:30:59 PM 8/17/09 “Like most things there are some really great examples and a mountain of junk. I'm a Miyazaki fan though. Akira is still a masterwork. Anyone see Steamboy? It was the movie Katsuhiro Otomo did after Akira. Came out in '04.” 1:37:15 PM 8/17/09 “take Scooby Doo for example. One of my most favorite cartoons, but the animation is a freaking joke lol” 1:50:30 PM 8/17/09 “Funny you should mention that. Just the other day Laurel was watching Scooby Doo and I was saying how I began to dislike the show once they brought in Scrappy. lol” 1:54:03 PM 8/17/09 “BTW, I found teh name of that WWII anime i mentioned. Grave of the Fireflies In the aftermath of a World War II bombing, two orphaned children struggle to survive in the Japanese countryside. To Seita and his four-year-old sister, the helplessness and indifference of their countrymen is even more painful than the enemy raids. Through desperation, hunger and grief, these children's lives are as heartbreakingly fragile as their spirit and love is inspiring. Grave of the Fireflies is a tale of the true tragedy of war and innocence lost, not only of the abandoned young, but of an entire nation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grave_of_the_fireflies Some critics (most notably Roger Ebert) consider it to be one of the most powerful anti-war movies ever made. Animation historian Ernest Rister compares the film to Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List and says, "it is the most profoundly human animated film I've ever seen." ”1:55:29 PM 8/17/09 “I've heard good things about that movie.” 1:57:30 PM 8/17/09 “If you are an emotional person even in the slightest it will make you cry like a baby. I won't say I cried, but I did wipe the blur from my eyes a time or two.” 2:03:07 PM 8/17/09 “Thanks for the heads up on that, Hyway. Looks interesting.” 2:10:59 PM 8/17/09 “Looks good Hyway. I'll give it a watch. When I think of anime I think of the nonrealistic, childish type of animation. Like this crap... ”2:16:18 PM 8/17/09 “This is the other film from ANIWAVE (that was the anime film festival here in wilmington that I mentioned) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/spring-and-chaos/dvd Spring and Chaos Spring and Chaos is one of the most beautiful Animes ever created; deep and meaningful, provided the viewer is able to figure out what is going on in the story. Like Kenji Mayazama's writings, Spring and Chaos is very surreal, allegorical and abstract. Many viewers may have a hard time following the story, and thrill seeking Anime fans will definitely be put off. I agree that it was hard to follow at times, but it was absolutely wonderfully drawn.” 2:33:43 PM 8/17/09 “In Japan, cartoons aren't just for children. It is a well respected art form” 2:39:10 PM 8/17/09 “This looks like a must see. I love Jack White, The Edge I never really cared for but look forward to getting a different perspective on him and Jimmy Page is simply my guitar gawd who is head shoulders above Hendrix IMHO. This Might Get Loud Rarely can a film penetrate the glamorous surface of rock legends. It Might Get Loud tells the personal stories, in their own words, of three generations of electric guitar virtuosos The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). It reveals how each developed his unique sound and style of playing favorite instruments, guitars both found and invented. Concentrating on the artists musical rebellion, traveling with him to influential locations, provoking rare discussion as to how and why he writes and plays, this film lets you witness intimate moments and hear new music from each artist. The movie revolves around a day when Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play. [D-Man2010] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl9iS2egnC0” 2:46:29 AM 8/19/09 “I had to take Abby to see "Bandslam" two nights ago. I dreaded it, but she realy wanted to go. I was pleasantly surprised! It was a great story w/ an excellent soundtrack including velvet underground, and other favs. Totally appropriate for an 8 year old but had me laughing often and interested to see what happened next. 4 stars.” 5:33:39 AM 8/19/09 “Why is Jack White considered to be a "Rock Legend". Sure he is good, but lots of guitarist are good. What has he done to even be considered in the same breath as Jimmy page.” 10:00:05 AM 8/19/09 ““Why is Jack White considered to be a "Rock Legend". Sure he is good, but lots of guitarist are good. What has he done to even be considered in the same breath as Jimmy page.†White is considered a great guitarist which I think is based on his style and sound more than his technique and high level of skill. In the trailer Jack says he tricked the other two into meeting him so he could learn from them. No one, including Jack White is saying he's on the same level. to compare any of these three to each other is apples to oranges which makes it more interesting to me.” 1:39:24 PM 8/19/09 “Anyone catch the trailer for James Cameron's new sci fi movie "Avatar?" Holy cow. It has nothing to do with the animated series, by the way.” 7:42:41 AM 8/21/09 “I tried to find one on youtube but there are so many effing fake ones I couldn't find an official one.” 7:48:29 AM 8/21/09 “My wife are going to see a movie tonight without kids for the first time in probably a year or two. Any suggestions?” 7:51:02 AM 8/21/09 “The Perfect Getaway looks good. I haven't seen it to really tell you if it's worth the money.” 7:55:11 AM 8/21/09 “Here's a nice date movie for ya. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sQhTVz5IjQ Buuuuut then again, your wife may enjoy The Time Traveler's Wife better.” 7:57:28 AM 8/21/09 “I want to see that one, Nigal. I've watched few clips of the movie, and the way Pitt prattles on in parts reminds me of certain TTers.” 8:44:43 AM 8/21/09 8:47:13 AM 8/21/09 “The Hurt Locker....Dated...2004 Iraq but it gives ya some insight...” 8:47:22 AM 8/21/09 “District 9 Took gritting my teeth for the first 20 minutes or so, then it got down and dirty..... A good Flick....” 8:48:29 AM 8/21/09 “Good gawd that is beyond stunning!” 8:57:55 AM 8/21/09 “that new Brad Pitt movie about killin' nazis starts today i think. take them to see that dayhiker!” 9:06:44 AM 8/21/09 “I mentioned the Tarantino thing to my wife. She sighed. She did like Pulp Fiction though. I wouldn't mind seeing that. I'll look into District 9 Nigal, which one is beyond stunning?” 9:18:35 AM 8/21/09 “yeah, i was kinda joking, prolly not real good for kids the ages you have. But I wanna see it.” 9:22:39 AM 8/21/09 Jump to Page << prev
