This is the CURRENT movie thread. It means movies that are currently in theaters. In a world gone mad, some things need to remain sane.

The A/V Club is the Audio Visual Club who is in charge of all the projectors at school. Usually geeks. If you watched movies but not DVDs then it must have been reel to reel.

Nevermind...

If anyone likes small, Euro-style Indie flicks: Wendy and Lucy is a good one.

Watchmen, yes. Push, I don't know about that one. Heroes never did it for me either, but I have friends you LOVE it.

Can ANYONE..please tell me about Babylon AD? (I think) WTF is the premise of this movie. We watched it on duty the other night...I haven't a CLUE to what I was watching...it was like a whole bunch of vignettes of explosive action...tied by who knows what....I mean I have watched BAD movies..but this boggles the imaination...

I think that's what is so appealing about him, Nigal. The roles he writes, directs, and acts seem to stem from a self-realization that he's aging and isn't / will never be the same again. It's appealing. Having said that, I'm watching Gran Torino tonight.

I watched THE WRESTLER. Darren Aronofsky's new film (Requiem for a Dream, Pi, The Fountain). Absolutely amazing. Worth its 13 nods at the Oscars.

Tango, I read an article that some of the Polish citizens....the ones that remember or study their history....didn't really appreciate "Defiance". They claim that there were more prominent/notable "underground freedom fighters" that did not get any recognition and that the group in "Defiance" had killed some innocent Poles.

But what do I know......I'm just passing this on......

Can we please not mention dogs for a few days...

While all of you are bantering on this board I was up all night with my little girl...

A kind citizen found here wandering near mile 15 of the Garden State Parkway and alerted the police... Her "Susie or bust sign' was in tatters and barely legible, but over all she was ok. After a quick observation, she was released from the hospital, but she is still a little emotional..

Some good has come out of this however. She now realizes that the world can be a cruel place.. If you could have seen the shock on her face when I told her that people do sometimes take what isn't there...

After praying for foregiveness for those involved, I tucked her in.. I was almost out the door, when she said '32oz (she likes that name) is Santa Claus real?)

Great, the loss of a dog, now Santa..

Oh no.. 'Benji come home' just came on..

Thanks DORK

Defiance was loosely based on their story. Some of the group were facing war crimes and the surrounding villages that they stole food from and assaulted the villagers that didn't want to give up the food were not appreciative and some turned them in. Still all in all a good movie.

I read about a Polish village that mostly disappeared and lived in a cave for 2 years. And I think I read it in The Backpacker magazine.

32, the Spirit of Santa is alive at my house and always be. To me Santa is not the drunken guy in the cheap costume with baby pee on his leg at the mall.

The Spirit of Santa looks deep inside you and sees the real good that is in all mankind. Most of us just don't use it alot.

Watch "Secondhand Lions"...GREAT SPEECH in there from charachter Hub played by Robert Duvall.

Hub: Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love... true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.

Went and saw Taken last night. It was good. The story line is a bit worn out and certain things were predictable but Liam Nisan made it all worth it. He's one of my favorite actors.

I drove to Toronto to visit my daughter this week-end. I got there early and we went to see Coraline. My daughter's boyfriend is doing his MFA in illustration (she's doing her MFA in Doxcumentary Film) and we all wanted to see it.

It was unbelievable. When you remember that nothing in the film was drawn or computer generated - evrything was constructed and moved frame by frame and hand painted.

It's supposed to be a kids' story, but I was glad I saw it at 60 and not at 6. On the other hand G. K. Chesterton wrote (and it's quoted on my daughter's boyfriend's blog): Fairy tales are real; not because they teach us there are dragons, but that dragons can be defeated.

I highly recommend this film, but if you plan on bringing a child you need to think about how he/she might react.

I want to see Coraline, but I know Abby would freak out over those button eyes and have nightmares. I would never take her, at 8 yrs, to see this one.

Has anyone seen Inkheart yet? Another one that I want to catch.
