cloverfield kicked ass. yes, it was a big dumb monster movie, all you naysayers. it was still very exciting. sort of a "what if godzilla was really real?"

Did you see the Blair Witch project (original) crash bang? I thought I'd love that, but hated it. Does this move "kick ass" like Blair Witch kicks ass, or like Alien(s) kicks ass?

it was better than blair witch, but if you hated blair witch, you might not like cloverfield. it was more intense than blair witch. theres not much of a story, and the characters arent all that interesting, but to me, thats what makes it all the more realistic, along with the man on the street perspective (as opposed to the usual omniscient or semi-omniscient view we usually get)

i liked blair witch. i didnt find it all that frightening, but the group dynamic entertained me

to be clear - the primary reason I didn't like Blair Witch is b/c I didn't find it frightening either. It was supposed to be scary, but reminded me of the "fright" you'd get in a hall of mirrors or something. All anticipation, no delivery. I love the concept though.

thats what i figured. i think how high the scare factor is depends on whether or not the illusion of reality is broken. i remember it being marketed as someone actually found this tape, it was real. but right before i saw the movie, i heard or read that it wasnt real, and so that completely shattered the illusion (didnt help that the chick started showing up in those steak and shake commercials, either), and i wasnt scared

when i saw the movie it wasn't widely known that it wasn't real. I suspected it wasn't real but waited till after I saw it to search the internet to confirm it. Even though I was a doubting thomas the majority of the theater bought into it lock stock and barrel. The atmosphere of fear created by that many people made it very easy to pretend that it was real thus making it a very enjoyable movie.

Avoid National Treasure Seqeul
This film is a joke. I let my daughter pick the movie last night and she insisted on seeing this one. Plot is joke, completely laughable from start to finish. The trend these days is to make movies from popular comic books, but I think that National Treasure should have been a comic book instead of a movie. The acting is terrible (These days we're used to seeing hack performances from John Voight and Nick Cage, but how in the h*ll did they get a quality actor like Helen Mirren to sign on this dog of a film?!? I hope she's learned her lesson!).
Don't pay any money to see this, don't rent it when it comes out on DVD. The only way you should see this is if you pick it up free from your friendly neighborhood public library when you're looking for a good laugh.

I thought the first one was OK, if implausible. The second one: what doesn't happen? He breaks into Buckingham Palace, the White House, and kidnaps the President.

low, don't ever read books by Clive Cussler if implausible story lines aren't your cup of tea :). Sometimes a good wildeyed romp is just plain fun. I haven't seen National Treasure 2 yet but some peeps I know enjoyed it.

we just got home from seeing Vantage Point.
I must say, this was the best movie I have seen in a very long time. It started right out of the gate and continued. fun, action, not borning, good acting. As a rule of thumb, i stay away from movies like this (political) but this was very different
if you get a chnace to see it, go.

Took the kidlet to see "Nim's Island" this weekend. It was cute. I'd give it ****. Jodi Foster plays a woman who is afraid to go outside. Was interesting seeing her play such a "weak" character.
Abby enjoyed it very much. I enjoyed that she enjoyed it.

We saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall last weekend. It started slow but had some really funny parts in it.

It is definitely a bit raunchy (read: not for kids) in parts ~ and I could have done without seeing Jason Segel and his full frontal nudity but overall, it was entertaining.

We went to see Baby Mama last night. It was really funny in parts but surprisingly serious in a few too. Still...entertaining. I love Tina Fey & Amy Poehler though.

I liked National Treasure 2, however I go to the movies to suspend belief for a few hours so I dont go to see it so for its realism but its entertainment value. My kids also enjoyed it. I watched I Am Legend the other day and enjoyed it...again, requires a suspension of a normal belief system but not totally out of the realm of possibility. The Reaping....interesting! Love Hillary Swank. Total waste of my time was....There Will Be Blood. That movie went no where.

Saw Iron Man today, wasnt a big fan of the comic, or of Robert Downey Jr, but this movie is a great summer movie on par with Transformers. Unfortunately, the new trailer for Indiana Jones didn't impress. The Dark Knight (Batman) trailer looked amazing.

IRON MAN heads-up...
Saw Iron Man yesterday....fantastic film...although abit simple in the plot. Iron Man was one of my favourite comic book characters....

Don't leave when the credits start rolling....there's ten seconds worth of movie at the end with Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury of The Avengers)....

speed racer was a fun movie. although susan sarandon and christina ricci were criminally underused. they couldve gotten any bimboes to stand around and say GO SPEED RACER GO!

I remember watching the cartoon "Speed Racer"...if they were called that in the late 60's or early 70's. I remember that some of those cars had hydraulic struts that propel the cars a few feet off the ground....and if the cars were going fast....the struts would make the cars jump over obstacles....

I don't know if there's a "New" Speed Racer series.....

I know that wasn't speedracer, but some other animated racing show, but I always think of it as speedracerish

watched the midnight showing of "the dark knight". every bit as good as "batman begins", maybe better.

so far, the christopher nolan batman movies blow away the tim burton batmans (which were also enjoyable). theyre rooted in reality and much darker than any previous tv or film adaptation

Saw Mirrors this weekend.

Pretty cliché, predictable horror/suspense movie. Plus, every time Kieffer Sullivan (sp) would yell I couldn't help but think of Jack Bower (sp)

Just saw Tropic Thunder. One of the funniest movies I have seen in a while. I took my daughters to see it expecting the R rating to come from the "movie" violence and some lewd comments. Oh how I was mistaken ... The R rating was for some extremely rude comments, but I doubt if its anything they haven't heard at school. I'll need to perfect that argument when my wife finally sees this movie. :) Still, they laughed their butts off all through it.

My daughter made me proud during one part. Ben Stiller was fording a river wearing a full pack. Savannah turns to me and said "Shouldn't he have unfastened his pack straps" very wise. :)

Wanted
Maybe I should have consulted my own thread before seeing the somewhat old Angela Jolie movie, "Wanted". It sucked. It actually started to get better at the end, but it was too late. It received good reviews too.

I think I have a new favorite movie, at least a new one that is right up there with "Fight Club".

I couldn't sleep so I went to walmart about 2 am this morning and bought a couple new movies that came out---"Wanted" and the new Narnia movie.

I got to say "Wanted" kicks ass. Prince Caspain is OK but I'm not quite in the mood for that kind of flick. The Ass Kicker movie was what i needed as I'm feeling a bit surly lately:D

These midnights at work sure are messing up my sleep schedule. I swear I don't even sleep any more LOL
