Got Stitches?
I was hit in the face with a pole when I was somewhere under 7 years old, got 3 stitches under my eye.

Long story, cut the top of my finger w/a knife and left a big flap on my finger, but didn't get stitches, but probably needed at least 2 for a pretty big scar.

A horse through back his head and caught my chin where I have a nice little scar. I didn't get stitches for that which may have been about 2.

I had my 440 pound motorcycle fall on my. I went to the hospital too late for them to want to stitch my knee, which may have been about 3-4 stitches.

I was in a car accident when I was 16 and went head first into the windshield when my sister who was driving hit a cement pole. I received 16 stitches in my face and the glass sheared off quite a lot of my hair in addition to a piece the size of a quarter right in front. Those were the days where windsheilds shattered into pieces. Where my head went into the windsheild looked like the shroud of tourin, sorry don't mean to be sacraligious but the shape of my head was in it.

Before I left for WA, I slipped in the tub and my arm caught a piece of jagged molding and cut my upper arm open like it was done with a surgeons knife, cost me 3 stitches.

Stitches in total = 22 stitches
Needed = an additional 8 stitches

I should have totaled 30 stitches. My sign, Aries, does say to watch out for injuries to your face.

Is this a bad thread? lol!!!!

Should I throw in broken bones? I only have a shattered toe bone from a horse falling on me.

In 4th grade I wrecked a go-cart when I ran into a ditch. My lower jaw slammed into the bolt in the center of the steering wheel. It severed my lower lip. You could see teeth without smiling. It took 26 stitches to put it back together again.

I was playing backyard football and slide into a lawnmower. I hit the back tire and the rim sliced my knee. 8 stitches or so. 2 weeks later I was at the beach for spring break and took the stitches out with a pocket knife so that I could swim.

11th grade I was horsing around between events at a track meet. I wasn't wearing shows. The person I was wrestling with had spikes on and stepped on my foot. About 5 more.

In prep for a Thanksgiving party I was carving candle holders out of mini-pumpkins. In the boy scouts you learn to cut AWAY from your body. I wasn't a scout long enough. 5 sticthes in my thumb. I still don't have all the feeling back. I got home in time for the Auburn/Alabama game though.

No broken bones.

44ish stitches.

I had lots of cuts and injuries, but growing up on a farm, my mom subscribed to the "tough it up" way of thought. So while I probably needed treatment a number of times, I never got any stitches or visits to the ER or doctor except for shots.

In my family of 5 kids, my mom and dad only made two trips ever to the ER. Once for my brother's motorcycle accident when he was 4 (see Harley thread), and once for my brother who was about 2 at the time and had been sick and suddenly announced to my mom that he could see Jesus standing next to his bed. Scared her so bad she brought him in. Turns out he was sick, but I don't remember what it was.

Arm through the screen doow window at age six required 10 stitches and eventually meds to take care of the ensuing infection.

Knee on a piece of glass at age eight took 3 stitches internally and 7 on the outside.

Evil Kneivel impersonation a few years later opened a cut on my right foot that probably could have taken 3 or 4, but mom didn't like us taking jumps on our bikes so I had to hide that one.

Slice on my wrist while building a cutting die probably should have had 3 or 4, but the doc just cleaned it and put a bandage on it. The next day the same doc prescribed meds for the blood poisoning.

Sharpening a knife while watching television earned 4 stitches in my left index finger as well as a moron badge.

Last year was 2 stitches in the bottom of my foot after a clevery camouflaged toothpick attacked me from the carpet...the puncture itself didn't require the stitches, it was after the doc at the med station went on a search and rescue mission with a scalpel that I needed those.

Most recent was 2 stitches after providing a turf sample from my right shoulder blade.

I had to have emergency surgery when I was 7 days old. The incision was 1/2 inch when the surgeon did it but it grew with me and is now about 3 inches long. Since then nothing broken and no stitches.

My doctor had a surgeon in his office stitch up my upper arm, saying that just in case I got remarried, I would look good with a better stitch job by a real professional. Did he know something I don't???? Could that been some kind of odd proposal? I did have a good looking upper arm!!!

I got sliced down to the bone with what I think was a razor or something equally sharp. Didn't even know I was cut. THREE LAYERS of stitches. Took a club to the forehead (boy did that bleed)& almost shot him because I was alone & thought I was going to pass out. It wasn't until later that they actually shot me. It must be my charismatic personality.

Sliced my ring finger open at work took 22 stiches to close. Don't remember to rest but I have colected 8 sucher removal kits (I asked for them after the doctor/nurse/coreman used them). Total don't know does it really matter?

age 4 slammed finger in car door. 6 ( I can still count them)

age 14 - hit web between thumb and finger with 2 lb hammer while splitting firewood. 6

age 18 - tie for "best" accident. guard on circular saw did not come down, sawed my anterior thigh about 1.5" deep, 8 inches long. about 8 really big stiches.

age 18 - the other "best accident" Several of us were sliding a steel I-beam along the ground to position it. There was a steel splinter 3 inches long that speared my long finger through and through between the first and second joints. Luckily the splinter broke off to go to the emergency room, that I-beam was too big for the truck.

Ow, steel splinter! I hate splinters. Wood ones are bad enough.

Um, stitches. Good question. I didn't have any until I was about 30, I think. I cut myself deep on the thumb, and probably wouldn't even have gone to the ER, but my wife made me. The cut was already starting to close, and they had to pull it open to stitch it. Then, they injected lidocaine into it. That hurt like a motherf****r.

After that, well, Katie bar the door. Stitches when I had my gall bladder out. Stitches when I had this hemangioma removed from my browline. I dunno how many.

Many events in which I've been cut, but manage to butterfly the wound myself. Have never actually stitched myself together... yet.

2, in my knee. My dermatologist thought some spot had to go. That's it! But there were a couple times I probably needed them. Like the time I dropped the Saran wrap and the cutting edge sliced my ankle open. My mom (who is a nurse) threatened to get out needle and thread but I told her to stay away from me! LOL!

No, not from the fountain (known as "the claw"), but from an underwater grate that was about shin high. I was retrieving a frisbee from the fountain....

When I was 3 years to 4 years old I fell on my chin three separate times and required stitches each time. First I fell off a pool table and hit my chin. Then I slipped in the bathroom and hit my chin on the toilet. Finally I slipped getting out of a pool in Florida hitting my chin again in the same spot. Three stitches each time in the exact same spot.

When it comes to my chin I guess I can't hold my mud. None since though.

lizs, sure scars count, because like me, some people don't bother to get stitched up and scars can be pretty bad. I slipped on ice and still have a huge scars on my knees from when I was about 10, took all the skin off.

I have a huge on below my right elbow; all kinds of them on both knees; one on the back of my thigh from a glass jar as a kid (prolly shoulda been stitched); one over an eyebrow from getting slit by a nail leaning over a fence; one on knobby collar bone from endo on mt. bike; and I, too, still have dirt under my skin from a rusty nail stepped on as a kid.

Let's see...when I was about 8 I kneed my right leg into a piece of reflector hanging down off a bike that was too small for me in the first place(a cousins bike)= 3.

Second place about 3-4 inches above the first episode I put my leg into a piece of TV glass that my dad was repairing(after he already told me to "watch out" for it ;) ) guess either I didn't listen or just spaced it out.= 3 or 4

Stepped on a piece of glass when I was about 10 because I gave up my flip-flops to my younger sister so she wouldn't...I think there were 3-4 stitches.

Tried to take my right eye out with a putty knife while stripping wallpaper off the wall with the family(I pulled dayhiker bit-supposed to scrape down, not up)That actually was just above the eye = 4 or 5

My brother's go cart needed someone to test it out, he thought I might want to try....guess he didn't secure the backboard very well. = 3 in the back of the head.

As being a part of a large family, but being the smallest, I got shoved out of the way by an older sister into a door hindge, while horsing around and being chased around the house being told to "stop it", by my mother. Left part of the head. = 3 Sounding familiar Lipstick hiker, I'm an Aries too....my daughter likes to kid me and call me an "airhead". What a brat. :)

Well speaking of kids, well I had some after I had her too, but I can't say where, but I'm sure you can figure that one out. about 16.

So all in all approx 40-44. Pretty accident prone, eh? And most of that was when I was a kid. As an adult besides the kid one, I got plenty of bumps, bruises, and sprains.

helinka, oh, I'm so sorry to hear that! Get them out of the trash and sell them on e-bay!

Skeetah, you and lee seem to be very close in having had the most stitches. Well, it does say for Aries people to watch out for facial injuries! I have to say that one to your eye sounds like it may have hurt the worst with probably a lot of aching involved to say the least, nevermind the stitches.

With my car accident, my 16 stitches were spread all over my face, 2 here, 3 over there, so one spot only needed one, so the doctor said he would not bother with giving me anesthesia for that one. The anesthesia shot hurts pretty good, so I agreed, and it wasn't bad getting the one stitch w/o anesthesia.

Now I only trip while I hike, fell twice; I'm not exactly sure footed but I still love to hike.

As I said most of them happened as a child. The one over my eye...well after I hit myself seemed like nothing happened for a few moments. I looked at my brother and asked him how it was, he had to take a double take. On the second look at me he had this panic look at me and said OMG, that's when I freaked out. They put the novacane right into the cut, that hurt pretty bad. I was in sixth grade at the time, I went to school the next day and everyone was asking what happened to me. I told them my brother did it...LOL...JK No I had to sheepishly tell them what I did. :(

That must've stunk having all those small stitches all over the face, eh, Lipstick? Probably looked like Frankensteins wife, eh? LOL JK

Yeah, I know what you mean about being sure footed while hiking. I think I get more scrapes, leaving scars, while I hike. I don't care though, I still enjoy hiking too. :)

i feel better already! it's amazing what a little nap can do.
i have a nice bit of roadrash along with the stitches and a fair bit of swelling under my chin and a big bruise on my collarbone. i'm very glad i didn't break my jaw. or my wrists. that woulda been way worse. i'd much rather a few cuts & scrapes than a cast for 6wks.
the docs gave me hell for skating without guards and helmet-told me i'm old enough to know better! ha! age has never stopped me from being being an idiot before, why should i start acting mature now?

hussu23, exactly how much did you have to drink to fall backwards, lol:)

skeetah, the security guard at the mall where I did the head on was really good about hiding his expression at seeing my face. He would not let me look in the mirror, but I insisted and my face was totally covered in blood. It was when the doctor brushed the glass out of my hair and it all started comin out since it was razor cut by the glass that I was upset. I had long hair at that time also, so huge amounts came out and I had a piece the size of a quarter sheared right off the top front.

At that time, I didn't realize how important it was in life to look good, so the stitches didn't bother me. I was about 15-16 years old. I didn't judge other people by the way they looked so I guess that's why the marks didn't effect me, but I do have a scar and tiny bump on my face. The surgeon who took them out where my mom worked left part of a stitch in. His office said no way, but come in, and there was a piece of stitch. I mean, for crying out loud, it was black. I think that was the spot that left a tiny bump on it, probably from him leaving it in as my skin healed.

two, 27 on one finger? That must have went up one side and down the other! Wow, the tongue onces must have sucked! That just creeps you out to have someone stitch a soft spot and also when I had a needle go into my forehead for anesthesia and stitches.
