Republican Congressional Committee honors fellow scam artist

A man convicted of stealing more than $600,000 in a business loan scam received an award from the National Republican Congressional Committee honoring his business leadership and party support.

Ira Stern, 56, of Milford was among hundreds of people nationally to receive the 2004 Ronald Reagan Republican Gold Medal award, Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Alex Burgos said Wednesday.

Recipients were invited to be recognized at a dinner and tax reform workshop in Washington, D.C., on March 15, at which President Bush was the keynote speaker, Burgos said.

The awards were given by NRCC, and announced by House Majority Leader Tom Delay and NRCC Chairman Rep. Tom Reynolds of New York, to honor business leaders who support the party, and honor President Reagan’s “vision for an entrepreneurial America.”
[...]
Stern said Wednesday he didn’t do much to earn the award.

“I believe the Congressional Committee gives that to people who support the Republican Party. I made a very small donation to them, and next thing I know, I was being nominated for businessman of the year,” he said.
[...]
Stern was sentenced to 2 ˝ to five years in prison and ordered to pay $250,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to felony theft charges in 1996 in Hillsborough County Superior Court.

Stern admitted to bilking 14 local businesses and individuals out of a total of more than $600,000 through an “advance fee loan scam.” Stern admitted at the time he took the money as fees, claiming he would arrange venture capital loans, but never made any loans.

As part of his plea bargain, Stern read a two-page statement in court admitting various aspects of the allegations.

After Canada has "gone conservative" with less that 33% of Canada's votes, and all the praise SS and the other fascists on the Board gave to the event, where are they now when thier Palestinian brothers are victorious?

Here are some of thier common platform planks (replace christian with muslim, and Isreal with the rest of the middle east "I" countries, for Republican party):

* The establishment of a moral Islamist Palestinian state.

* The Palestinian state, based on religious law, will forbid men and women from dancing with each other.

* Homosexuals' rights will be denied (“a minority of mental and moral perverts”).

* Total avoidance of cooperation with Israel and termination of expressions of normalization with it.

* Establishing the “charity associations” and other civilian infrastructure institutions by Hamas.

* The continuation of the violent confrontation against Israel until its annihilation.

* arms in the Palestinian Authority administered territories into “ combat arms ” that would defend the state's borders in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem . These arms are also needed to establish a Palestinian state in the 1948 territories.

Why I would want to engage "intellectually" with a non-thinker such as Buddha Bear is beyond me, but please. This has got to be one of your lamest posts ever, and it's annoying that no one else has bothered to respond. It would be nice if you could occasionally have a little perspective but that's probably too much to ask. All of your points, in comparing Hamas to the religious right in the US, overlook huge differences in the scope of their advocated policies. In a larger sense, I don't think that Hamas' electoral victory is such a bad thing - the hatred of the Palestinians for Israeli Jews has been hidden behind a mask of "diplomacy" for years, and it is refreshing (in a sick way) to finally have their evil agenda unveiled for the world to see.

BB sez: "The establishment of a moral Islamist Palestinian state."

No one in the mainstream conservative movement is promoting the ideal of a Christian theocracy in the US. There is a degree of difference between wanting to keep historical markers showing the Ten Commandments, or the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance, and having a charter that advocates the slaughter of all Jews.

BB sez: "The Palestinian state, based on religious law, will forbid men and women from dancing with each other."

Indeed, legislation to outlaw dancing in the US is being drafted right now (sarcasm). Weak, dude.

BB sez: "Homosexuals’ rights will be denied (“a minority of mental and moral perverts”)."

Once again, there is a difference between opposing gay marriage, and wanting to kill and/or imprison all homosexuals.

BB sez: "Total avoidance of cooperation with Israel and termination of expressions of normalization with it."

I don’t get your point here BB. Are you saying that conservatives are going to start firing rockets into Canada, or sending suicide bombers to Tijuana? Or perhaps, that boycotting French wines is equivalent to blowing up buses full of women and children?

BB sez: "Establishing the “charity associations” and other civilian infrastructure institutions by Hamas."

I'm not getting this point either I guess. Unless you think all faith-based charities should be abolished or something. In the wake of Katrina and other natural disasters, it should be obvious to most people that organizations like the Salvation Army are the most effective at fulfilling victims' immediate needs. Actually Hamas' social services are one aspect of their organization I could support, as long as they aren't junior jihadi daycare centers, teaching "Jew-Killin' 101" to impressionable toddlers.

BB sez: "The continuation of the violent confrontation against Israel until its annihilation."

Refresh my memory - what nation are we trying to annihilate? Surely you can think of at least one example.

BB sez: "arms in the Palestinian Authority administered territories into “ combat arms ” that would defend the state’s borders in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem . These arms are also needed to establish a Palestinian state in the 1948 territories."

Huh? The US shouldn't protect its borders? I would think a good union guy like yourself would want to restrict the flow of illegal immigrants into the US, since their presence tends to drive down wages. Maybe once again I am just not getting your point.

I doubt that you will actually address any of my points here BB, you will probably just tell me to clean the "sh:t out of my ears" or something equally enlightening. I look forward to your well-thought-out response. Maybe you can answer this hypothetical question, too: would you rather be a Jew in the Palestinian territories, or a Muslim in the United States?

Your first point nailed it on the head. People aren't responding b/c a lot of people have him on ignore. Aside from being non-intellectual, which isn't a crime, he's crude and rude, which is. I spent a year trying to show guys like him how uncivil they appear by mirroring their mannerisms, but they just don't get it - so ... "ignore".

For the Basques, it seems like a semi-independent state under the "federal" governance of Spain might be the best solution. I am admittedly very uninformed with regards to the Basques. Obviously the best scenario would be an agreement reached without violence.

maybe it would have been funnier if she said he should have been aborted?

"Coulter Jokes Justice Should Be Poisoned

Ann Coulter jokes that getting rid of Justice Stevens would change the current law on abortion.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Jan. 27) - Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, speaking at a traditionally black college, joked that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned.

Coulter had told the Philander Smith College audience Thursday that more conservative justices were needed on the Supreme Court to change the current law on abortion. Stevens is one of the court's most liberal members.

"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee," Coulter said. "That's just a joke, for you in the media."

Coulter has made a career of writing and lecturing on her strongly conservative views.

At one point during her address, which was part of a lecture series, some audience members booed when she cut off two questioners. "I'm not going to be lectured to," Coulter told one man in a raised voice.

She drew more boos when she said the crack cocaine problem "has pretty much gone away."

Randy "Duke" Cunningham

Tom Delay said this about this GOP Hero, "He is an honorable man of high integrity." You bet! AFter nearly a year of denying bribery claims, calling them complete falsehoods, Duke resigned from his congressional office after admitting to taking over 2.6 million in bribes
