“I am going to the Sipsey this week -end and welcome anyone who would like to join me.If it isnt raining Friday ,I will be going up mid-day but if it rains i will wait until Saturday morning.Let me know if you would like to meet.Name the place and time.”
“I'll be family camping over at Rickwood Caverns. Have to catch you next time.”
“PS - I'll let Tom know about this. He's the guy at Braziel that was with me. He asked if I had your email after that trip, but I don't.”
“What trails are you planning to do?”
“I dont have any set plans ,just going to get in the woods.I am open to any suggestions.I plan on being there until around noon on Sunday. So if that is convenient we can meet up and hike where ever.”
“I may be able to go but won't know for sure until later in the week because of work. I do know that I wouldn't be able to make it until Friday evening at the earliest and considering that the weather forecast is calling for Friday rain, Saturday morning would be more likely :)”
“I'll be at Callaway Gardens :D”
“Walkabout, I can't make it either but I know of a good hike for you. There is a 100 foot waterfall near the River. I've done it as a day hike but there are plenty more places to explore making this a worthwhile overnighter. There is one nice waterfall on the way then a 100 footer not far from there. Round trip is less than 10 miles.
“Bama,If you dont mind ,post the way to the falls and I will give it a try.Tohp72,if you would like to join me on the hike to the falls, let me know when you can be at the trail head posted by Bama and we can hike in together and do some exploring.I ,like you, will not be going Friday if it rains but for sure will be there Saturday.Hope to see you there.Plus anyone else who wishes to join in on the trip.”
“I tried to e-mail you but it didnt go through.Tell Tom if he wishes to join me this week-end to e-mail me.My e-mail is listed on the profile. If he cant join me this week-end ,let him know I am available most week-end and he can suggest a date for a bp trip.”
“i might be interested in joining you but i need to check on a few things first...if you can get me some more specifics on where you'll be where you'd be more happy to meet up if i come”
“Walkabout shoot me a email as I don't have your address and It ain't on your profile.”
“dang...I am still not backpacking since hurting my back....but considering some dayhiking after I get off work Sat am......y'all have a great time!!!”
“Bama, thanks for the quick response on the site of the falls.Looks interesting but unless another person shows and wants to go into that area,I would be reluctant to hike there solo.Maybe another time when the "gang "is there.”
“I you wind up Solo you may want to do turkey foot falls. Its a very short hike to the falls but lots of exploring. Go to the south side of the river. Go under the bridge and a small creek will empty into sipsey. It don't look like much as there is a lot of sand here that asorbd the water. Anyway thurn and go up this creek, trust me after about a hundred yard there is a trail. Follow this creek to a bluff shelter. Pay attention to the rocks there, a surprise awaits. Continue up this creek out of the shelter is another surprise, you will wander, how in the world did a car get here. any continue a fork in the creek. there will be a waterfall there. There is another fall within a couple of hundred yards on the other part of the creek. I have stayed there at that area several times, great spot for a couple of tents. this is 3/4 of a mile from the th. There are several areas to explore. If you go on top of the first waterfall and bushwack back towards the river be careful as the last time ALA and I were there we ran into a few angry hornets.”
“I plan on being in the Rec area parking lot sometime between 9:00/9:30 Saturday morning. If Anyone wishing to join me ,you are welcome.”
“I am still trying to make it but probably won't for sure until tomorrow afternoon. What trek do you have in mind?”
cant make it
“sorry man cant make it and now i'm gonna be depressed all weekend cause i cant be in the woods”
“Keep me informed on where you are going, I might be able to make it this weekend. Not till Saturday morning tho.”
“I believe I will do the Turkey Foot Falls mentioned in the above post by Bama.I will hike in and set up camp close to the falls and explore the area.I havent hike that part of the Sipsey and looking forward to doing so.”
“Walkabout, there are a couple of waterfalls you will also see on the feedercreeks. when you get to the one I'm refering to you will know it. when you get to the second one you can climb to the trough and will find steps cut into the stone. These once held a waterwheel. It was a grismill. Another option if you don't want to double back is to climb out of the bluff on the north side. look at the bluff and you will see the only place you can get up. Trust me there is a trail up there. Follow it out to the road. Your less than 200 yards. Cross the road and you will fine another roadbed. Follow this roadbed until you find another roadbed turning to the north. Follow this and you will come out at a set of rapids on the Sipsey below the park. The scenery ain't as nice along the road bed but when you get to the river it gets better. Go upriver a short distance and you will be back at the TH.
Dangnapit wish I could make it.
“Change of plans, my son is coming home from school on his way to spring break in Fla. I gotta see him on Sat. Ya'll have a good time!”
“With the rain we have had turkey foot will be a great trip. Its still doable in a downpour. There is a footlog to cross at the first fall if it don't get washed out.
“Just thought I'd let yens know that the water level at the Borden crossing is currently at about 3 feet. Just in case Ya'll had decide to go up that way.
“not gonna be able to do it this weekend. Argh!”
“How was the trip?”
