Feed the Hungry Hikers! Max Patch, NC

“next trail magic is going to be at max patch, halfway between the smokies and hot springs, nc. i will get there friday nite and then saturday morning look for a suitable place to set up. if the weather is good i would like to be on the summit. if not, i may head to treeline north of max. this is gonna be cool!”

“im bringing 10-12 pounds of raw cow-flesh, toppings, drinks, and chips, smokey girl is bringing the hot coals to sear them with, doggies, and whatever else comes to her widdle mind. last time she also brought roasted corn (i hope it was good i didnt get any :-( ), and veggie packs. yummalicious!”

“I am definitely doing the corn/veggie thing again.. Azimuth and I said we would bring a cooler as well ... Weeeeeee... I like that area too..”

“the plan now is to meet friday night at the campground by the river. i will be showing up around midnite or later, so dont wait up. first thing saturday morning, head out to breakfast, then on to max patch.”

“Friday night, meet at the Hot Springs Campground along the French Broad River in town. My car has hiking stickers so you should be able to tell that I will be there. I am thinking that we might be there before you all. We will set up our tent and walk into town for Friday night dinner at Bridge Street Inn, which is next to Paddler Pub on same side of road. Come join us when you get there!!!

We hope to be up on Max Patch at 10 Sat Morning to start the hiker feed. I will be bringing a grill and veggie packs. CB will be bringing the raw meat and fixings.

If you want to help feed, you can bring anything you think thru-hikers will crave.”

We have a little picnic table for car camping that folds out.. i'll be bringing car camping chairs for comfortable seats. Its nice to sit in those after days on the trail...

“Something just occurred to me: It's supposed to be pretty horrible around here Friday night; you might want to get a cabin instead of tenting. The cabins tend to sell out on the weekends; if you want one, I'd try to get in touch with those folks right away:

I don't mind rain and windy weather in the tent. I think that's what I am going to opt to do. I am bringing tarps and tarp poles if it rains on Saturday so we can still cook”

on max patch, weather cooperating. camp on the summit, weather ditto. bring whatever. doesnt have to be alot, or anything, just having extra pair of hands lugging stuff up the hill will be an enormous help”

“Sounds great. I think currahee and I are going to hitch a ride with Ewker Fri. Hopefully, we can be on the road by 6 Nashville time. We're really looking forward to it. We were thinking about picking up some plates and plastic ware in addition to whatever we decide to bring. Maybe some baked beans.

“You can find ramps, branch lettuce and rock-tripe in the woods this time of year in the Max Patch vicinity.”

“I bought a few things last night to take. I probably over did it but I had rather have enough than not enough. I bought the following items: 4 24/pks of string cheese, 3 10/pks of capri juice, 10/10pks of candy bars, 4 24/pks of cokes.

One thing about the coke cans they can take them and make a stove.

“I'm gonna swing by Kroger in a bit & grab a few beers, apples, paper goods (so the hikers don't have to dig out their kit). Hmmm, I was also thinking about a gallon or two of milk. I'll pick some other stuff too.”

“I am already dreading carrying all those cokes up the hill iced down. Luckily one of my coolers has wheels on it.”

“I am dreading dragging the grill... the wheels are plastic and don't turn very well, but I am not worried.. I was thinking about bringing my doggies, maybe I can strap something on their backs? hahhah! might be too much trouble to bring them though...”
