Ask away.

I've been in from the West side at Edelman Trailhead, to Lakes of the Rough, over Edelman pass and down, then up to to Geneva Lake and over Geneva Pass, then around to Medicine Lodge Lakes (I Think). Then back to Edelman Trailhead. All above 9000'.

i assume you mean cloud peak wilderness WY ?

don't have too much experience there but i did car camp there.

it's gorgeous, peaceful, not nearly as crowded as some of the other better known parks.

driving down the tensleep canyon was pretty awesome.

Bighorn Mountains/Cloud Peak Wilderness
Cool. Well we are planning on taking a horse trip up to Cloud Peak REsevoir and from there going where our feet take us. It is mainly a trip for solitude but we like the fishing part too. So far the main questions are; are there many people up there? Where is the best fishing, and where is the best place to hike to from the resevoir. We will probably want to go up cloud peak on day 2 or so then hike down another valley for a few days then back to the pickup point for the horse guide.

Expect to see alot of people the Solitude way.

I sort of remember someone telling me to stay to the left of the stream entering Solitude and hike up from there, but that was a few years, and many bongs ago.

Fishing's good throughout, but lots of smaller fish, perfect size.

Do any of you have any suggestions on good places to go for solitude? Last year the trip up Big Blue Creek in the Uncompaghre NF was awesome. Saw two people in 6 days. Stalked to within 300 yards of two herd bulls and to within 35 yards of a raghorn sattelite and his cow. It was pretty cool.

Sorry, I misunderstood. There is a lake called Solitude in the Cloud Peak Wilderness. I didn't realize you were going FOR solitude.

Generally we saw quite a few people up there when we went. Around Geneva Lake was alot of people but we stayed pretty spaced out. Once we got over Geneva Pass, things thinned out pretty good, but we camped away from the trails and back into the trees a little more.

We'll be on the East side of the range, over by Cloud Peak Resevoir, it looks like there are quite a few places to go away from people. Hopefully it'll be as good a trip as last year.

I was up there just last month for a snowshoe trip in the wilderness area. The snow pack was really low, so if your trip is planned for late in the season, the stream flows may be really low.

The fishing is great everwhere I've tried in the Bighorns. My 7 yr old son had no problem catching his limit working a crik without assistance late last sommer - nice brookies 8" - 10".

I never see to many other people in the wilderness area, but there are plenty of locals on ATVs in areas outside the boundry.

Cloud peak is a walkup, but count on storms in the afternoon.
