I get worked on Friday the 5th and I'll be in a wicked brace for some weeks.

It's gonna suck for while after that and it's been suckin' since the end of June.

March 13-14-15 North Fork Trail in West Virginia................northern half.

“I'm still interested, but waiting on the word from the doc on my foot--want to make sure the stress fracture is healed before stressing it. It hurts pretty respectably when I wake up after working all night on my feet (12hours)--and that's with no pack. anyyone with any experience with stress fx? Any chance of making it a Fri.-Sun. trip?”

“Y'all can park at the point where Forest Roads 19 & 70 meet and walk three miles along #70 to The Pipeline in the dark.
This is a very good night hike.

Turn left and go (mostly up) about one mile to where The Pipeline crests. Then go left again along the plateau on a "jeep trail" for about .5 mile to a nice site mostly open with some spruce nearby.

In the morning, if the weather is clear, you can see Seneca Rocks lookin' tiny a'ways off to the south and east.

From there you are ready to strike out for The Rim Trail nice and early.

Happy motoring and stay close to Fridge and his GPS.

Proper boots are a good idea for the rock-scrambling that lies ahead.

“Talked to MarkO today....he's a bit high on the meds or at least I thinks so due to the fact he was confused at times.
His op has been completed and now for the 6 month healing.
We talked a little about this trip and being the GURU he is about Roaring Plains.. helped me figure out the aproach along the rim trail.

“How is this going to work since you moved the trip start date to Friday? I'm assuming we wont be attempting to nab as many peaks since we have fewer days --or were you planning on upping the mileage?

What is your intended route and mileage?”

“Ms P here is the plan..

I will be there friday before noon and park on FR 70 at the South Prong Trail Head.
Heading S East 0.6 miles to intersect the Hidden Passage Trail going S. Camp will be here anear the S prong intersection and Hidden Passage. A spring is shown on the map.
Saturday morning head south westerly along Hidden Passage trail following the Canyon Rim all the way to the Pipe line,making a right on pipe line to reintersect the Rim Trail.

Tons of VIEWS are located all along this route. Camp will be approx 5 miles in along the Rim trail near a spring.

Like I said Tons of Views all day as we trek 5 miles .. Prolly will take us all day to do the 5 miles for Pics and soaking in the views.
Sunday move out to intersect the Roaring plains trail then follow this trail Northerly to re intersect FR 19. Plenty of views Sunday as well.”

That's a tough place to get to and I'm glad you guys made the trip.

Fridge called me yesterday and told me about the "bear".

Back in the '80s I saw a perfect cougar track in the mud on Roaring Plains Trail.

I'm glad you guys got to see Roaring Plains.

Perhaps I can get my tail back up there next Memorial Day Weekend and make it on over to Haystack and Green Knobs after traversing the Rim Trail.”

“We saw lots of tracks, lots of bear sign too.

Hiking with dogs is new to me.

First I think someones coming to vist us Friday night, but it's just the night light Fridge had on in his tent for Mindy.

Then on the way out, she sneaks around behind me when I'm lookin for the trail and starts rollin around in the huckleberries.

I saw a little bit of black fur in the bushes.....I got a new name for Mindy, I'm callin her Cubbie.”
