West Virginia Car Camping Trip July 14-1 7th 2005

“This is the third yeare we have planned a car camping trip

first year Maryland
second year Ithaca NY

we have had some great times getting together with new and old TT and their family.

So this time I was thinking of West Virgina.
This is only one place of many that offer group camping

for this camp group, the group area will hold more then 40 people w/tents and it is only $35.00 a night for the enitre group.
This area looks good because there is ample hiking.
Any input would be grateful.

“From the park's website:

Swimming: A small beach is provided for swimming in the Shavers Fork River. A non-accessible bathhouse is available with changing rooms and restroom facilities but no showers. A lifeguard is not provided.

If it's non-accessible, what good is it?”

“I am kidding. I cannot figure how to get to the online reservation site. Nothing comes up for Stuart Group Camp anywhere.

We should go white water rafting on Saturday!”

the group area has picnic tables and fire rings and restrooms
and the showers are in the main area of the campground.”

“I haven't talked to her about this trip yet, so getting an email from someone she doesn't know would probably freak her out!

I'll talk to her about it tonight or in a few days. We have a lot on our plate for the next couple of days, plus she's sick.”

That's about as good a location as one can find in that part of West Virginia.

Elkins is less than ten miles.
There are grocery stores there.......even a.....gasp.......Walmart!!”

“I want to talk to the man who manages the campgrounds in that area. I will try to get in touch with him and see what he recommends.

The Stuart area is also a picnic area, and the family campground is nearby. Dean manages a quiet campground, so I can pretty much assure everybody that what happened with the Rangers last summer would be child's play compared to what would happen if Dean was involved. He has called the State Police to have noisy people removed at 2 a.m.

The alternative is a group campground in Smoke Hole Valley. This place is pretty much off by itself, and we'd be able to relax without worrying about other campers, rangers, or state troopers. There are swimming/kayaking rivers in both campgrounds. There is a pretty good food market in Petersburg for this one.
