“You may like the idea of putting automation in your programming, but i like the personal touch of a local disc jockey. (Yes, of course I have a little bias in this). Also, if you enjoy making the programming syndicated, more and more homogenous every day and repitition that leaves any artistic integrity out of the programming, then Clear Channel is CLEARLY for you!”

The Railroad stays in the station today. Have a prior obligation.

But....I'd like to invite you to join me and a jock named Bryan Delp tomorrow night at 7 PM. We are honored to have a great musician in the studio for interview and whatever other surprises he may have in store. I was kindly asked to lend a voice in this event. For those who are unfamiliar with John Ginty, he is a master of the Hammond B3. He fronts the recently formed John Ginty Band, nominated for two grammys, played and traveled with the Robert Randolph Band for 3 years, played with Sheryl Crow, Neal Casal, Lou Reed, Citizen Cope and played keyboards on Santana's 2002 Shaman cd.

Roam, this guy's the real deal. Up to now, he's enjoyed large success as a 'session' man and part of the backbone of the aforementioned bands. The JGB is his first attempt at front line status. Maple and I saw him in April. They're a jam band extraordinaire. They just jam along for a while, staying on a nice plateau. Then, they have this talent for turning up the burners a notch, then another and another. He even did something called Gospel Jam, in which they play 'When The Saints Go Marching In (not quite like I've ever heard it), then launching into a ten minute tight instrumental that just builds with intensity. Does a nice job on "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" too. Tomorrow, night, if he does not play live, then we will play some cuts, I'm sure. Hope you get a chance to tune in. This is some really good music in the Allmans/Santana type vein...

sounds really cool! If I'm around, I'll def tune in. Me and the boy were just talking about maybe grabbing a simple overnighter before his sister comes back home though, so we'll see.

Have fun with the interview nonetheless, get him to play live for you though man - tell him he just HAS too! lol

Ha! Funny you say that, Roam! I was thinking the same thing. The only thing I have to acjknowledge is that the Hammond B3 is a mother to lug! Ever take a close look at one of them? And his is an oldie that goes back in time with him. Hmmm, mental note to ask about that instrument...

Hey Roam! It went great! And we brought the 500 pound beast into the studio. I sat right next to him watching him play that baby. It was a beautiful sight!!!

I recorded it direct to CD. I'm hoping and praying that I can salvage the last disk, as it wouldn't 'finalize' for me on the machine at the studio, for some reason. I'm going to try it here at home.

The guy has played all over the world. He played MTV Unplugged and Saturday Night Live (accompanying Jewel) in the same day. He had some great stories. Interesting dude...

It was a blast. I'm glad to say that he was one of the more interesting musicians I've had the opportunity to talk to. sXometimes they can drone on and on and it makes for very boring radio. This one turned out rather well, I thought! And I have sound on the CD, thankfully. This was the one with all the live music on it, after we dragged the "beast" in..

Funny.....I have my settings to show one day of posts so this thread started today with "...we brought the 500 pound beast into the studio. I sat right next to him watching him play..." I had to go back and read the rest because I thought he was talking about the artist, lol!

lmao, NC! That is truly funny and unintentional (although I wish I could have set that one up).

Actually, if you took a look at Ginty, you'd see what looks like 'the kid from down the block.' Hardly a beastly, overtowering figure..
