One of my favorite movies - and I love most of the movies with Tom Hanks.

Cast Away!

In the movie 'Cast Away', was Wilson a volley or soccer ball?

Tom Hanks' wife has the last name of Wilson.
I wonder Tom's charactor in that film was 'married' to Wilson......nnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. ;-)

I once let this "pain" in my tooth go on and on, using whiskey at night to numb it. I finally went to a dentist and told her I was "recently" experiencing some pain. felt awekward telling her how long I waited

She took some x-rays, came back and said she had to clear the rest of her day. the truth was in the forensics.

I had an infected cavity that was nearing septicemia and therefore required immediate attention.

She gave me the max dose of novocaine in 3 shots and asked if I wanted gas. I declined the gas b/c I don't trust Non- anesthesiologists using it.

I felt most of what she did. The bacteria interfered with the novocaine delivery.

It's difficult to describe the pain. One example, I could feel the cold water/air, used on the surface of the tooth shoot through my nerve and feel the pain travel along the nerve, splitting/splintering along the nerve pathways.

It was almost....trippy.

it took a few hours, with more novocaine delivered as the procedure wore on. A root canal followed by a crown.

I vist the dentist regularly......sort of

She is cute, though. And her office is right next to George Washington U, where most of her interns come from........

Can someone cue the porn music?

Home remedy for a toothache - the Chinese approach with food
Star fruit (carambola): This is believed to reduce fever and detoxify. When used as a home remedy for a toothache to relieve pain, 3 star fruits are crushed to make a juice, which is then drunk twice a day.

Peppermint: 5 grams of fresh peppermint is boiled in 1 cup of water with a pinch of salt. When drunk, this is believed to relieve toothaches, as well as any other types of pain affecting the head and neck, including headaches.

Nutmeg is considered bad for toothaches, so in this instance should be avoided.

Although not specifically a home remedy for a toothache, to help reduce bleeding gums, it is suggested to brush teeth with fine table salt in the mornings and evenings.

Folk/tribal home remedy for a toothache

Fresh peanuts, shelled and crushed, and onion, peeled and crushed, are mixed together to form a fine paste. The paste is smeared on one side of something, like a piece of bread (although the tribespeople used a leaf). This is placed inside the mouth, pressed against the sore tooth. This is left for a few hours, and nothing is drunk or eaten etc. The purpose of the bread is to hold the paste in place.

Another version of this home remedy for a toothache is to use a clove of fresh garlic, peeled and crushed, cloves, and peanut butter, mixed together and then applied as a paste on a piece of bread in a similar way.

What bearmagnet says is truth. I've done the same thing, tried home remedies. I still end up in the chair with worse pain than I started with and a raging infection. That's what we're trying to tell you. Pain is nature's way of telling you to get your heiny to the dentist pronto.

Remember the old commercial, "You can pay me now or you can pay me later?"

Dead River, Rough Cut
It's a documentary on two guys who make a living on nature in the backwoods of Maine. It opens with one of them describing how to remove a tooth by yourself. He says to use a thin piece of twine and tie a noose around your tooth, tie the other end to a tree, and jump out of said tree. Or something like that.

On second thought, you should probably just go to the dentist.

I had two corneal ulcers of my right eye that neared septicemia b/c of contact abuse. The on call ER Optometrist was furious with me.

I think he was pissed b/c it was a nice Sat and his golf game was probably interrupted.

Again, use some candle wax to make a temp cap. Make sure it is unscented, etc.

This thread is bringing back memories I think I repressed.

I seem to recall being able to feel the dentist pulling on "dead" nerves......could I feel her removing the nerve?????

I think I need to go.

Uhhhhhhhh mapes? You are going to pour Hot wax into your mouth? On a tooth missing it's cap?

Do you like the feeling of being branded?
bearmagnet

10/19/04

Cold wax, warmed by your hands and formed with your fingers into a little ball that you then press into place on the tooth.

I thought that was self-evident but I guess not.

Self-evident? So is "do not pour hot coffee into groin" or "don't smash yourself with soda machine".

Sometimes with a cracked tooth (or lost crown) you can mold wax over it and that will stop the pain until you get to the dentist. Make sure to use unscented/uncolored wax, otherwise - yuck.

my crown is still in place, it is the root that is the problem, the root canal shouldn't need to be redone

I hear ya Mapes, the pain is unbearable and can seem preferable to have all the teeth pulled

I have been on Clindamycin since Friday night and now, 3 days later, can eat on the side with the pain, hopefully I won't need a 2nd root canal on that tooth

Oil of Clove is best. Tiny bottle so I carry it backpacking (good thing to have).
