Now that I am living up in bear country again I'm going to apply for a permit next year. I have yet to see a whale out in the woods....they must have very good camouflage.” 6:04:28 AM 11/20/07 “LOL....you guys crack me up!” 6:13:55 AM 11/20/07 “Yesterday was opening day of bear season here in PA. We had a bear walk through the back yard Saturday on his way into the state forest. I wonder if he’s a rug now. Next Monday is opening day of deer season.” 6:28:16 AM 11/20/07 “Impossible! It takes months and months and months to make a bear skin rug. Him being turned to steaks is much more likely. ;)” 7:31:54 AM 11/20/07 “PA deer-hunting season off to shaky start as one man dies in fall from tree stand and another shoots himself in foot. In other news, Bambi's mom still unaccounted for ......more...... http://www.wgal.com/news/14703081/detail.html” 1:15:14 PM 11/27/07 “Speaking of deer season, my cousin got his first buck on Friday. A nice 7 pointer. He's happy. There will be a venison roast for Christmas dinner.” 1:17:21 PM 11/27/07 “There's already been 6 does hit by cars near us in the last month. All of the fawns are banding together, roaming around here. Its kind of creepy seeing all of these small deer staying together in people's yards. I did see a big buck peeking out of the back of a pickup though.” 1:20:12 PM 11/27/07 “http://thetimesonline.com/articles/2007/11/27/updates/top_stories/doc474bd284ef4be847058550.txt Read the comments that people write in. People are so stupid” 2:45:13 PM 11/27/07 “Yesterday morning I discovered part of my mesh wire garden fence was broken down from the inside. When I first put up the fence I never got around to putting in the gate and the deer just seemed to see the fence as a barrier without ever walking around to the opening. My garden was safe throughout the growing season. Evidently this one particular deer walked through the opening but couldn't find it again when it was time to leave. He tore a portion of the fence away from the post in his successful attempt to escape and the remainder of the fence was bowed out. There were a lot of churned up deer tracks and deer crap all over the place. Looks like I better get that gate up:)” 2:54:51 PM 11/27/07 “There is now an annual hunt at a SP outside of Birmingham. There is a similiar response down here. I came home to 9 deer in my front yard a week ago.” 2:55:58 PM 11/27/07 “Bagged a nice doe this afternoon behind my dad's house. Looks like I'll have to wait until next year (again!) for a buck.” 5:58:21 PM 11/22/08 “big meanie. pickin on girls and at least ya coulda gone out into the woods instead of the backyard” 6:03:52 PM 11/22/08 “She was coming straight for me, I swear. I was in the woods last weekend......f'n cold! (BTW, we got nearly 18" of snow this week if you can drag Yogisan up here for a winter trip.)” 6:07:41 PM 11/22/08 “Season is all over for my cousin. He got a nice 8 pointer Sunday morning. I helped him drag the 175 pound buck a little over a mile to the closest road.” 4:34:45 AM 11/25/08 “Nice! We didn't go this year and so far no one has offered us a deer. But we still have a bit of time.” 5:08:52 AM 11/25/08 “Yeah, we still have 3 weeks left in the season, including late muzzleloading. I'm hoping to get out all 4 days during the long Thanksgiving weekend.” 5:25:04 AM 11/25/08 “Good luck!” 5:54:14 AM 11/25/08 “ ![]() After the kill, watch out for horny little dogs.” 8:13:48 AM 11/25/08 “Ride 'em, Tyrone !!” 8:14:44 AM 11/25/08 “Hmmm nice deer...bad doggie.” 8:55:16 AM 11/25/08 “Dog/deer, male/male, sex with the dead, racist action.” 9:21:30 AM 11/25/08 “HUH? Nice rifle..............what deer?” 9:41:11 AM 11/25/08 “I got me a little 6 point. Tasty!” 10:06:15 AM 11/25/08 “WVa body count: one hunter dead, one wounded.” 10:12:01 AM 11/25/08 “ I helped him drag the 175 pound buck a little over a mile to the closest road.” lumberzac 7:34:45 AM silly hunters, you should coax them close to the road while they're still alive and then shoot them...work smart not hard” 10:16:57 AM 11/25/08 “"Bow-Wow!!! I got me a little 6 point. Tasty!” That would make a nice caption for the photo, Dood. last edited: 11/25/08 10:29:27 AM” 10:39:48 AM 11/25/08 “Been trying to do that since early October thrifty. It hasn't been working.” 10:40:04 AM 11/25/08 “talk about adding insult to injury! i have always wanted to try my hand at deer hunting... no gun, nobody to coach me, and no place to hunt. all limiting factors. just getting out and doing it on your own is more than a little problematic. so i have learned to get by on the scraps people offer me... :)” 10:43:45 AM 11/25/08 “That too would make a nice caption, Zac. ![]() “Been trying to do that since early October thrifty. Aside from him with the legal right to shoot three deer, the other four of us were allowed two each - a buck and a doe if the doe is shot first, or just a buck (no, I don't understand the rules). In all the five of us got three does. Miserable results. My buddy has had a great year however beginning with wild turkey in the spring, then bear (a nice one and his brother got a huge one that is a rug now), bags of geese and duck. Next we are competing for the small game trophy (a plastic chicken with fur and feathers stuck all over it). My buddy's wife is praying he doesn't get that one too. The trophy for the biggest turky is a duck decoyed transformed (sort of) into a turkey (formula is length of beard [in inches] times length of longest spur divided by three). For the heaviest deer it is a piece of driftwood with an assortment of horns, antlers and cartridges stuck to it - gawd-awful ugly. The ceremonies involved are pretty special too.” 10:57:07 AM 11/25/08 “i have always wanted to try my hand at deer hunting... no gun, nobody to coach me, and no place to hunt. all limiting factors. just getting out and doing it on your own is more than a little problematic. so i have learned to get by on the scraps people offer me... :)” Yogisan Ask away, otherwise, BE A MAN, DAMMIT! You're a hunter/gatherer for crying out loud! Animals fear you! Only dogs take scraps! Seriously though, if you have questions, just ask. I'm sure there are numerous resources in your area (as well as friends and neighbors) willing to educate a nimrod.” 10:57:10 AM 11/25/08 “yogi, you've got one of the best hunters right up the road from you...hit up randal some time...knowing him he'd be glad to do it...heck, since he'd be hunting he might actually be quiet ;)” 11:00:19 AM 11/25/08 “"i have always wanted to try my hand at deer hunting..." Me too, so I bought rifles and did some shooting and never did find anyone to hunt with. Then I had some kids and lost interest in the shooting. Eventually I sold the weapons and bought some power tools.......turned my swords into plowshares. With the tools I built some electric guitars........six-pointers.” 11:10:42 AM 11/25/08 “i have always wanted to try my hand at deer hunting... no gun, nobody to coach me I read this part and thought, dood! That bare-handed stuff, that's REAL hunting.” 11:18:21 AM 11/25/08 “loL! yeah, that would be my style... small barlow knife and teeth... knife optional.” 11:26:29 AM 11/25/08 “That's what I though too, Kleetn.” 11:34:09 AM 11/25/08 “and never did find anyone to hunt with - Mark What - you mean you couldn't find hunters who wanted to spend quality time in the woods with an ultra liberal gun hating hippy? LMAO!” 11:34:39 AM 11/25/08 “here we go” 11:38:23 AM 11/25/08 “I couldn't even find an ultra liberal gun hating hippy, LMMFAO!” 11:39:26 AM 11/25/08 “Does harvesting an elk count? I got mine last Saturday. It was in such a shltty place I had to have a friend pack it out on mules.” 12:19:25 PM 11/25/08 “yogi, dude, just use your car. Its expensive, but its also damn exciting.” 12:27:27 PM 11/25/08 “"Woo, that's an elusive little creature! If you ever miss one, it's because the bullet's moving too fast. I'll tell you what; slow the bullet down to 55 miles an hour, put some headlights and a little horn on it, the deer will actually jump in front of the bullet!" - Ron White” 12:36:08 PM 11/25/08 “So true (damn).” 10:43:00 AM 11/26/08 “YogiSans, we have four hunters at our north woods Wisconsin cabin hunting deer this season: Prosecutor, The Lorax, Prosecutor's son, and a lawyer from California named Tom. Together we have five deer hanging in the first two days of the hunt. The Lorax shot two, including an incredibly good shot on his second deer harvested. When I get back to Illinois next week, pick an afternoon and we will drive down to the range in Bonefield Illinois and you can try out a bolt action deer gun and a semi-automatic deer gun, and learn how to shoot. If you can shoot reasonably well, you can join our deer hunting camp the week of Thanksgiving every year (in Wisconsin) and harvest your own deer. I'll post photos of our hunt next week.” 3:25:38 AM 11/27/08 “Dang!” 4:39:00 AM 11/27/08 Jump to Page << prev
