A couple of questions for the White Mt regulars:
Tent platforms: is it possible to rig a non free standing tent on them or will I have to bring a free stander?
Is this bear cansiter country or will my Ursack do?”

“No need for the bear canister, the Ursack will be fine.

There are hooks on the sides of the platforms and gaps between the boards you can drop the cord through just bring a little extra cord.”

My physio got a real laugh when she saw me at the hospital. She's a former student and high school rugby player who now plays for our club. She broke her ankle at the beginning of the season and her cast just came off. She'll also be coaching my girls' team for me this year.”

“my non-free stander uses 8 stakes, so it might not be feasible. I can take a heavier free stander, but are there "regular" tent sites in the area besides the platforms?”

“Think most areas are either cabins or platforms....probably because of the steep slope sides, erosion, and protection of fragile plant life.

“Spots at Guyot are platforms and the lean-to unless the site is full and the caretaker sends you to the overflow. The lean-to is first come just like the Dacks, no platforms on the overflow but you can't use it unless the site is full. Actually, on Saturday he told me they are trying not to use it at all if possible.

I can't see any problem setting up on the platform though even with the 8 stake deal.
One side you can tie off to the edge and the other side drop a line through the gap and wrap it to the edge or drop it through with a stake tied to it and let the stake turn so it can't come back through the gap and then pull the rope tight.”

“Yes, and the cabin is Maintained by the Jefferson Boyscouts but the stove was out last time I was there (June). If they put it back in we'll have to haul up some firewood. Or even if they don't there's a fire ring outside.

You can rent snowshoes up there if you don't get them in time or aren't sure which kind you want.
