My latest food find:

Instant Miso Soup - Trader Joe's brand...

It comes in 4 2-serving packets (2 cups per packet)

The flavor is yummy and (as far as I can tell) there seems to be no MSG. (although the Autolysed Yeast Extract may be a source...)

Taste is really good-- I'm thinking that it would be a good substitute (and tastier) than the little flavor packs that come with the instant Ramen, or instant rice vermicelli noodles... :-)

Cost is $2.69 per box of 4 envelopes, each packet weighs 0.94 oz. (27 g) per 2-serving packet...”

“OK, back on track with the Miso soup...

I looked pretty hard at some Miso Soup packets just yesterday, (not at Trader Joe's, so not sure if it's the same brand), but those 2-serving packets required like 16 oz. water, so I wasn't sure how / where I'd use them.

So... what would you do with these? Do you plan on taking these in replacement of the raman packets, and just using part of the contents of a Miso soup packet?

I was VERY interested in these because one of my favorite things on the trail are the packets of Lipton's Hearty Chicken Noodle cup-o-soup. Perfect size for my mug (add 6 oz water, but I add 8-10 & it's still good + I get more fluids), weighs next to nothing, & I don't even have to re-package.

I'd like some more options in the same weight range / convenience, .. Lipton doesn't offer anything except the chicken-nodle, I wish they'd offer some variety!”

“walmart has miso soup, so as kroger. you got to look in the oriental sections. tinny packages, so I am not sure if those are the ones you want. I think they have 4 in a package. No noodles or anything else in it. only broth, tofu and sea wheat I think.”

“if you go into the hispanic section of grocery stores you may find knorr soup packages. got to make sure though that you can mix them with water only. Or you use dry milk... they have bunch of different variations, tomato, sparagus (sp??)I think I also saw potato soup.

My daughter sends me all sorts of soups from germany. wish they would have them here. I got wild mushroom, pumpkin soup, spinach soup (yeah i like spinach) and many more. all sort of good stuff..
