I wouldn't mind trying some hot cider this year because I don't have it very often. Plus this would give me something hot to drink in the evening without keeping me up all night.” 6:54:33 PM 9/29/04 “Prosecutor makes a great after dinner drink of hot cider with some 151 rum added. YUMMY!!!!” 9:46:24 PM 9/29/04 “I always start my dinner (in summer too) with an instant soup. I prefer the Nile Spice brand, which comes in a cardboard cup, so I have to repackage it, but no biggee. I like hot chocolate, too, but I know you can also get instant hot apple cider.” 9:50:57 PM 9/29/04 “wanderer--have you tried instant miso soup? (you can find it in a Japanese or other Asian groceries). It's pretty much just broth with a few small pieces (depending on the soup) of seaweed and maybe tofu.... sometimes it can be a little spicy (white pepper inside), but it warms you up quickly! I've also tried the hot ciders and a really good tea by Celestial Creations (Nutcracker Sweet) it comes out in the fall--towards Christmastime-- tastes like a vanilla flavor-- if you bring instant coffee creamer, it is like having a cup of chai (I use the Coffeemate Hazelnut creamer--yummy!!) They also have gingerbread spice tea that's good, too. The Nutcracker Sweet tea is caffeinated, the Gingerbread Spcie tea is caffeine-free....” 12:43:00 PM 9/30/04 “JohnnyWlkr gives me a hard time over my love of soup when b'packing. I don't use the Lipton Cupasoups since Knorr came out with their line. The cream of leak makes a great tuna casserole with the foil packet tuna. Two Knorr cream of leek in the big mug and half the tuna. When I want to get fancy (not often) I use Ramen, but first I soak some Shiitake mushrooms and Black (tree ear) fungus and a packet of freeze dried chicken in the big (insulated) mug with warm water. When they're rehydrated I add the ramen, pour in boiling water and add soy sauce, vinegar and cayenne pepper to make Sze-Tchouan chicken. I make instant cream of wheat or oatmeal for breakfast. JohnnyWlkr has me making flavoured (amaretto) instant coffees now. Warm Gatorade is surprisingly good. A Power bar and fruit leather is good for lunch. I don't carry gorp or trail mix any more because I seem to feel my blood pressure rise and friends tell me my face goes red when I eat it. If it gets worse I might need to forego the bar, too.” 2:49:08 PM 9/30/04 Oh yes... “Pita, peanut butter and pepperoni still make the ultimate winter trail lunch when the activity is heavy.” 2:50:15 PM 9/30/04 “Warm lemonade is good.” 2:59:44 PM 9/30/04 “they have some nice instant cappuccino mixes and I mix them with hot chocolate......I like hot tea....cinnamon or Chai....Mint hot chocolate is the best......YUMMMM I love to take pepperoni and cheese....Hot Pepper Jack...yum....sone of the pepperoni comes in a pack with two smaller packs so the second pack isn't opened until you need it ( no refrigerating until it is opened) I have some slim jims...but I don't like the "skin" it is way too thick for my taste...I peel it off...LOL...” 5:08:57 PM 9/30/04 “New stuff I found - http://www.bearnaked.com/ I found this granola at my local Fresh Market. It's pretty good and they have a small bag that is very "trail friendly." I had the high protein variety - 10g protein/half cup!! Great source of protein on the trail. Anyhow, just passing it along. Peace. MM.” 9:39:27 PM 10/05/04 “MM, how'd you like it? Was it filling? How sweet was it? Crunchy or soft? Thanks for the info, I am interested for sure.” 10:12:55 PM 10/05/04 “I found these at my local "Whole Foods Store": Laura's Wholesome Junk Food - Anna-Banana Split Bite-Lettes They are SOOOOOO good-- moist and flavorful.... Think & I had some on our hike over the weekend.... has anyone else ever tried them? If not, you are missing out!” 10:56:44 PM 10/05/04 “Birch - it's on the soft side, kind of medium sweet (some honey and cranberries). I liked it pretty well. Any item that has a protein punch is well received by me, especially when it's not a dinner item.” 11:47:18 AM 10/06/04 “you could always mix in some beef jerky chunks for more protein MM...lol I saw a new granola mix the other day..i'm gonna buy it today and letch ya'll know if it's any good” 11:57:04 AM 10/06/04 “MMMM, mmmm, jerky granola. lol. Uh, I'm a vegetarian. No jerky for me.” 12:02:51 PM 10/06/04 “AJ throws huge cream pie at MileMonster!!!! Opps!!! And for $2.50, hard to beat pricewise too.” 12:51:18 PM 10/06/04 “GET THE SMALL SHRIMP IN THE POUCH BIT.. AND MM..I KNOW..HENCE WHY I SAID IT!” 1:06:54 PM 10/06/04 “If I can find it...I was at a Big Lots today, and while they have a lot of pouch food, shrimp wasn't one of them. This shrimp was a in a can, and was pretty good.” 1:08:13 PM 10/06/04 “someone find me a pizza and i will be happier” 1:16:52 PM 10/06/04 “have a lunchable (pizza wannabes)... I'm off sick at home today and I think that is what I'm going have for lunch right now. Later gators....” 1:31:01 PM 10/06/04 12:14:54 PM 10/07/04 “EW......” 12:16:21 PM 10/07/04 Found sitting right next to me in bed “A little tough until I figured out how to properly tenderize her. lol...” 12:17:25 PM 10/07/04 “"A fit of cannibalism"! Each little single makes a half liter or 16.9 fl oz drink. Weight on my scale is 0.16 oz each. I got Lemonade and Raspberry Ice. Now if only I could find Strawberry-Kiwi or Tangerine-Strawberry. ;-)” 6:15:13 PM 10/08/04 SS “Where did you find them? It would be nice to be able to make an empty pop bottle's worth instead of a Platy's worth!” 6:17:52 PM 10/08/04 “anybody know a healthy way to make granola into a bar?” 6:21:02 PM 10/08/04 I put my Halloween hat back on “sarbar - I knew I forgot something. Yupp, he wants to know what it tastes like, so he eats it. Nasty! Don't ever let me catch him eating something that crawls. anyway, someone did post about the single spam servings and I looked for them but wasn't able to find them here at our walmart.” 7:22:44 AM 11/03/04 “Gemini - you're 11 year old sounds pretty cool. Boy or girl? I remember my 5 brothers and I doing practically anything to gross out our mother. It usually never worked because she was raised either in the woods or right next to the Indian village. I've seen the single spam servings, but can't remember where. I wonder when they'll start packaging beer in pouches?” 7:27:14 AM 11/03/04 “Beer in pouches - now THAT'S an idea!” 7:29:30 AM 11/03/04 “LOL-- beer in pouches--like those "capri sun" drinks...
