Duck River Canoe Trip “Who wants to join? Date: Saturday July 31, 2004 Where: Meet at the Intergraph Parking Lot at 7:00 AM Bus Drive: (by Adrienne Gibson to: Chapel Hill, Tennessee (2 hours) Route: Duck River 8 mile stretch Cost per person including bus fare and canoe rental for two (based on 30 people) $28.17 Return to Huntsville approximately 5:00PM This trip is a LOT of fun canoeing-drinking-swimming-tipping over-eating-beautiful scenery. Bring a cooler with your "rations" for the day, and whaterver else is waterproof and necessary on the river. We need commitments quickly so we know if we have enough for the trip. These trips are a ball!” 4:00:02 PM 7/08/04 “Let me check my schedule!” 4:39:34 PM 7/08/04 “I might join in for this one and just meet you there.” 5:03:53 PM 7/08/04 “COOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL” 5:09:01 PM 7/08/04 “I definetly want in on this trip, I live about 30 minutes away from the Duck River. I am off that weekend and could be avaible for carpool, extra ride or whatever. I haven't actually canoed the Duck in ages, we always go on the Elk, about 50 miles south.” 10:12:58 PM 7/08/04 “I wanna go....but...My weekend to work...but may just have to trade for this trip!!!” 10:24:42 PM 7/08/04 “Only if I can be in the same canoe with that big brute of a husband you have FG. He is so macho!!!! I miss you guys!! I am, and remain, THE DODDER.” 10:32:15 PM 7/08/04 “I was thinking it was a river with some really low bridges.” 10:33:53 PM 7/08/04 No low bridges “Just a few old grist mills to jump!” 10:41:52 PM 7/08/04 Mother G “Find out the cost without the bus trip as I live close by. Are you using River Rat's or the other guy in Chapel Hill??? The guy from River Rats is in the TTA with some of us. I'm tempted to drive to Huntsville and ride up with ya'll just for the heck of it!” 10:45:03 PM 7/08/04 “I was thinking y'all might have to....” 10:48:51 PM 7/08/04 rats and double RATS!!! “I can't join you'ns. I will be on the Big South Fork that weekend for a 3 day trip. Day trips can be fun, but overnighters on the river are even better. Oh well..you all have fun.” 1:59:06 PM 7/09/04 “Only if I can be in the same canoe with that big brute of a husband you have FG. He is so macho!!!! I miss you guys!! I am, and remain, THE DODDER." dodder 10:32:15 PM 07/08/04 FG has a husband???...something we should know about??? Way cute Tilt......LOL..” 2:47:24 PM 7/09/04 “Sorry I haven't answered anyone questions before. I just can't believe how my job keeps getting in the way of my personal life! I have an email into the person organizing the trip to get the name of the outfitter and the cost without bus trip. I will post this info as soon as I receive it. Thanks for your interest. We usually have waaayyyy too much fun on these trips. One year we performed a bovine rescue. A story too long and way to hysterical for here.” 4:53:20 PM 7/09/04 “It's Duck River Canoe Rentals in Chapel Hill” 5:05:57 PM 7/09/04 Mother G “You might want to check out River Rat's. It is owned by a backpacker and hiker with Tenn Trails. He might even give you a better rate. I can get his no. if you are interested. I have hiked with him and his wife a couple of times, they are good people. If the other outfit is set in stone that's ok also, just trying to save ya'll some dough.” 8:15:10 PM 7/10/04 Bump “Is this trip still on??? Mother Goose please let us know how much without the bus ride. THX” 1:50:20 PM 7/25/04 “Hey MG........I will find out tomorrow if I am off Saturday...if it is not too late, I really want to go....wooohoooo” 7:50:25 PM 7/25/04 “yoooo hoooo......” 2:01:01 PM 7/26/04 “helllo???” 4:50:58 PM 7/27/04 “HI!” 5:18:29 PM 7/27/04 “LOL..hello Roam..I am trying to get ahold of Mother G........but glad to get ahold of you anyway!!!” 6:04:24 PM 7/27/04 “MG probably hasn't posted on this board over a dozen times ever. The chances of her seeing this are pretty much zip. You might try emailing her. If her email isn't in her profile then find FG's profile and email him.” 6:07:02 PM 7/27/04 “I have her email and it said it couldn't be delivered:( I'll look for FatherG's Thanks Dayhiker!!” 6:09:18 PM 7/27/04 “Is there a way to find profiles??” 6:09:57 PM 7/27/04 “The best bet is to just find an old thread he posted to. Search on Savage Gulf, find the thread from the trip there this past Jan and get one of his posts for the profile info. There may be an easier way, but I usually just think of something that I know the person I'm looking for posted to. Another sure bet is to search on his name for one of those, "Hey Father Goose" type of threads.” 6:12:17 PM 7/27/04 “Ok...thanks!!!” 6:13:00 PM 7/27/04 “The Duck river is a pretty sweet ride. I've done it a few times. Yall have fun” 6:18:26 PM 7/27/04 “Hey WD, Good to see you around.” 6:19:03 PM 7/27/04 “These are the final details for the upcoming Canoe Trip!!!! You all have mucho fun, and remember...drinking and water sports do not always mix and its only fun, until someone gets hurt.” 4:38:10 PM 7/28/04 Mother G “Thanks for the information, I'll be there for sure. There may be a few more here that only need a canoe, I'll let you know for sure by Friday. BTW do we need to reserve a canoe or are there plenty? I can probably bring one if I need to. I can't wait!!!” 6:05:19 PM 7/28/04 “I Karo...just checked my email...LOL......will know for sure in awhile if I am going......is the water deep????...swift????” 6:17:05 PM 7/28/04 Div “If I remember right it is similar to the Elk R. Deep slow pools with fast shallow "shoals". LOL” 7:42:54 PM 7/28/04 Divinity “It's easy. There is one place where the water is moving a little faster and you have to cut a sharp turn but even that's not anything to worry about. You would have to totally suck to turn over or get hung up.” 7:48:30 PM 7/28/04 Final Details “Finally, The Highlight of the Summer is here !!!!!!!!! Where: Meet at the Intergraph Parking Lot - Very large parking lot in front of Bldg. 20 & 15, next to the fitness center When: 7:00 AM Bus Drive (by Adrienne Gibson) to: Chapel Hill, Tennessee (~ 2 hours) Route: Duck River - 8-mile stretch Cost: $30 per person, including Bus fare and canoe, seating two. $24 for children. A third person in a canoe, even if it is a child, will be charged full price. Please note that the price is an estimate - once we know the # of people going we can figure out the precise cost. Return to HSV: ~ 5:00 PM Please have cash or a check ready to make out to Danny Long - he will tell us Saturday morning how much we need to pay. Also, a few single $-bills for the bus driver would be appropriate. For those who haven't been. IT IS A LOT OF FUN - LOTS OF CANOEING - DRINKING -SWIMMING - TIPPING OVER - EATING - AND DID I SAY DRINKING!!! BEAUTIFUL SCENERY - THIS IS THE EVENT OF THE SUMMER! Things to bring: Money/Check for Danny Long Change of cloth - leave on the bus Cooler for your "rations" for the day, i.e. food, beer, wine, water, whatever! I hope a little rain doesn't scare ya'll away. Yesterday I talked to the lady (forgot her name) about the trip. She stated that there would be plenty of canoes and we can even rent a kayak. I will decide on a kayak if we have an odd number of canoers. I'll meet ya'll Sat morn at about 8:30-9am. Can't wait to meet some of you, Karo” 6:41:04 PM 7/30/04 “Yall have fun!” 5:11:21 AM 7/31/04 Fun, Fun, Fun “I really enjoyed meeting the bunch from Ala. esp the Goose family. We had a great time, only fell on my butt twice! lol and seems we only lost one sandal on the trip, but a good time was had by all. Boy that Marian sure is a water dog!” 3:25:13 PM 8/01/04 “We had a great time. It was raining a bit when we first pushed off but not long enough or hard enough to cause any problems. The day evolved into sunny skys and lots of fun. We paddled, stopped, ate, drank, swam paddled, stopped, ate, drank, swam etc. The current was moving but in most places not enough to be a real problem. We only had two tip overs in perfectly calm waters, go figure! The three hour trip took us about five. The scenery was wonderful. We shared lots of good food and good company. We stopped and investigated a bat cave you could hear them further up in the cave. The rocks surrounding the cave were very very slippery. Can't imagine why!! It was great to meet you karo and hope to see you again on some other adventure.” 11:38:16 AM 8/02/04 Mother G “I did not bring my camera due to the rain, but if you have any pics, please post here or send me copies and I will pay for the processing. Thanks again for the invite, I really enjoyed the trip and meeting ya'll. Till next time...” 11:41:31 AM 8/02/04 “Why, yes I did bring a camera and will let you know when they are developed. The evidence!!!!” 11:49:37 AM 8/02/04
