Like Sarbar1 said, I live to hike. When my two oldest kids were little, I told them that I had hiked to every lake in the Cascades, and stashed cokes in the streams. So whereever we hiked, we would have a cold coke waiting for us. And whenever we hiked, we would always find cokes in the streams. They never figured out that I was carring them in my pack, and planted them when needed. I told them I was King of the Mountains.

Rosey,

good luck on Huayna Potosi. I climbed Huayna in 1995, here are the pics,

Huayna Potosi 1995

Great climb, lots of different routes to pick from. Who are you using for a guide?

I just bagged Mt. Washington today. It was windy as hell on the summit but man what a climb. I'll post a trip report and photos soon. Went via the Lions Head trail due to the Tuckerman Ravine was closed.

I hiked up to Table Rock over the long weekend, carrying 70 pounds in my pack. Its only a 800' gain hill a mile from my house, and overlooks Boise. But man, my knees were killing me afterward. I limped for 2 days afterwards, but now they are feeling more like normal again. The training is in preparation for Mt. Shasta (14,100) in a few weeks.

Thanks for the reminder...

add Table Mountain (near Mt Baker) to my list.

(can't expect me to remember all of them)

Hey Idaho Bob

When are you going up Shasta? I'm heading up AG around the 1st week of July. I need to do some training as well.

What is AG? We are thinking doing Borah July 17, and Shasta a week or two later.

Sorry Idaho

AG is the Shasta expressway also known as Avalanche Gulch. It's the only route a person of limited technical abilities like myself is comfortable on. Most everyone uses this route and it's very crowded. Last time I was on it a couple years back I watched a guy slide about 1000 feet out of control and screaming the whole time. He was fine and provided fine entertainment. Many inexperienced people on this mountain so watch out for the rockfall and the falling climbers. Don't forget your poop bag!

I should have guessed poop bags are required. Dang! I'm going to be constipated that weekend, if I can arrange it. If you go the 1st week of July, you can tell us how it went. Good luck! What have you been doing to train?

Carb loading! I need to do some unloading! I will suffer greatly but I'm in OK shape. Had knee surgery 3 months ago and have had to stick with low impact stuff so have been biking a lot. Going to test out the wheel on a peak Thursday with my partner to see if he's ready for Shasta. Pyramid peak in desolation wilderness is an hour from my house. You get 4k of altitude in 3 miles on a cross country route. Basically you do it twice and you have similar stats to Shasta minus the altitude. I'll let you know if and when we go to Shasta.

I can hold it for days if I have to. There is a solar toilet at horse camp but you can only take a dump every other day there.

Any relation to the oldtimer Idiot Bob?

I'm not a peak bagger per se, but have bagged a couple.

In the western Sierra -
Alta Peak
Silliman Peak
almost made it up Mt. Tallac, will go back someday

In the Rockies -
Medicine Bow Peak (pretty easy)
an unnamed peak between the Lone Pine Creek and Bear Creek Drainages in the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness
another unnamed peak in the Lost Creek Wilderness

and I can't forget Mt. Evans, the highest mountaintop I've ever been on - woo hoo! lol

Did some hiking in the Adirondacks this weekend. On Saturday I hiked Colvin, Blake, back over Colvin, then down to Elk pass, up to Nippletop, over to Dial, went over Bear's Den, the arm on Noonmark, and finally back to camp. Total trip on Saturday was just over 14 miles with 6100ft of elevation gain and loss. Add two more 46ers, so now I've done 25.

You And EarthNsky Were Busy This Weekend
Wow Zac, I eyed up that hike a few years ago right after doing the Dix range.

Noonmark is a cool peak, not that big, but bald and a kickass 360 view. I spent the night up there once.

Carried a 50 pound pack up tablerock, a local hill overlooking town, training for Shasta. Man, it was a lot less strain than it was a month ago. I actually jogged the flat parts of the trail. Am planning a 3 day Sierra trip with the family, then climbing Borah (12,000) highest peak in Idaho, then Shasta.

Roam Around, you Easterns have got to come up with some better names for your peaks! Who can have any respect for a peak named Grassy Knoll, or Gentle Breeze, or Sleepy Knob. You need names like we have out West, like Formidible, Terror, Challenger, Deah Climber Peak, Cadaver Gap, Redout, Sinister, Ripsaw Ridge, The Minarets, the Sawtooth Range. Work on that, would you?

We also have Mt. LeConte and that sounds mighty. LeContes northern faces rises over a mile high which is comparable to many mountains in the rockies. It's the highest face in the east.

Dubious claim there EarthNsky, highest face in the East.

Now if the North face did rise 5280ft (mile) it would easily be the highest as Wallface in the Daks which claims to be the 'big wall of the East' only has an 800ft face. Cannon Cliff in New Hampshire also claims 'The only big wall climbing in the East' and about 1000ft in height.

Mt Le Conte is 6595ft at the top, but the trail description says "climbs nearly 3000ft" indicating that the base is about 3500ft.

Maybe just semantics as a rock climber I understand "face" to be a cliff of some sort, not just the North side of a mountain.
