Trekkngirl - all of our days are short hikes so I figure once we get up to Peak lake some of us will want to go up to the col and scout out the route, that's when I'll decide which way I'm takin' into Titcomb basin.”

“I know we plan on Friday night at the New Forks group camp site. Is that the most efficient place to meet? Would we be better to meet in Pinedale and do the shuttle from there -- after the last supper?”

“I thought we we're meeting at the narrows campground, not the group site.”

“I personally think it would be better for everyone to meet at Pinedale at say 5 o'clock, but we need people to be at the campground as early as possible to secure campsites.”

“I went back over the e-mails and read that the Narrows campsite is a mile hike in. I don't want to hike in a mile, secure a site, then hike out to do a shuttle. Now you know, I'm lazy......


Pinedale for dinner sounds great. I think the van car trippers will probably still be on their sightseeing trip, but the rest of us could meet and do the shuttle from there.”

“I remember talk about a hostel in SLC, but I can't find it. Anyone remember or know where it is? We might want to stay there the Fri night we come out and start heading home.

BigPoppa, are we giving you a ride to the airport? When?”

“Yes, you are giving me a ride. How tight is the space. We need to get sirpete back to SLC also. I think there will be at least two cars left, I am hoping we can get everyone back to SLC who want to stay longer. We will figure out something.

Gremlin is securing the site early. He is getting there a day early. As I can remember, he was going to hit the main campsite and then the group.

As for meeting for dinner. I think we will be arriving in Pinedale around dinner time. I don't want to stay too long because I would like to get my tent set up and do a final check on gear. What about if we had somekind of Pot luck. We each stop and get some part of a dinner, enough for 13 people minus our drinks. Then at the campsite, we have a big picnic dinner. I will gladly bring the fruit bowl.

Dang, I guess I should start packing. The more I think about the trip, the more crap I think about taking. I just added a heavier jacket which means I have to think about getting rid of something.

and then there is the food. I hate figuring out my meals. I am the type of guy who makes his dinner according to what he feels like eating. I just don't know if I feel like eating so much tuna.”

“i spent the weekend reading Sierra Mel's High Country Cooking.
at first, i thought i was going to just buy the regular ole stuff, but she has really put together some great recipes that are way to easy to prepare and dehydrate....carrot and cucumber salad....you add water to the bag when you start out in the morning and by lunch stop...you are ready to dress and toss...ya gotta love it.
big poppa..i don't eat beef, but .do you like jerky? that is light and flat, also precooked and dried bacon? alternatives to tuna”

If it's mostly snow melt and clear, I may just go with a filter bottle and chemical drops.
If it's muddy, my Pur Hiker will be needed.”

“most of the lakes that are bigger than puddle size seemed very clear to me as well as creeks.... I used a filter and had no problems., ..looks like we are going by lots of water sources so dont have to carry more than what you will drink while hiking..

My Marmot is going to be ready by thursday. I had a busted zipper. I am such a procastinator. It has only been broken for forever. When I get it back, I will need to wash it with that stuff to make it water proof again. I actually did not want to bring that jacket because of the weight, but with all the talk I decided to go with the heavy gortex jacktet.

“Fishing is fantastic throughout the winds, you won't have any problems catching fish. I'd bring a rod if I could afford a decent one hmmmm maybe I'll get one anyway.”
