“SS - how you talk about Savage Gulf! My head still hurts from the crap that got stirred on here.
Sounds like this is going to be a great trip.”
“Ok who's gunna be in SLC on Thursday. I am going to be there around noon. Figured I would rent a car and go check the town out before I need to meet up with Bigpappa and Bison.”
“Hey, I hear those Tabernacule choir know how party on a Thursday night. Slip the minister a 20 spot and he will put you in the front row to see some serious table dancing. Whoohoo. Tell them that you are on a mission. They like that kind of stuff. They are always send people on missions.”
“YIPPEE!!! Om..sounds like a great plan..Haven't seen any of those places either..can I ride on your Z-rest with you???..lol
Great news about the alternate route Bison..I feel better now.. : )
Stovie you'll leave me in your dust..you always do. ; )”
“now I'm getting excited!”
trekkngirl....maybe the fellows that are picking and roping on the glaciers can drag us behind...like a dog sled or something......would be a five ticket ride at least~~~ heh....”
“YOU'RE EXCITED? NO, I AM EXCITED. Two weeks to go WHOOO! HOOO!
Trekkngirl - all of our days are short hikes so I figure once we get up to Peak lake some of us will want to go up to the col and scout out the route, that's when I'll decide which way I'm takin' into Titcomb basin.”
“We are leaving tomorrow morning and will only have computer access briefly until Monday, so lets make any fun plans soon, okay?
We'll be in leisurely mode and would love to get together with Chief et al. I hear Aero is somewhere relatively near by, too. We could have a celebratory dinner on the way in and another when we come out. Love to burn those calories and then eat them up again.
I am just leaving work ( I can't believe it either!!!) and will post our national plan cell phone number in the morning.
BigPoppa, I'm still planning on getting you a big can of Gaz, right?”
om I'd give 5 tickets to swing on the glaciers..
Hey Big Poppa I have a present for you all the way from California. It's from Phil. : )”
“I'll be on my way back from Colorado Springs on the 7th. Unfortunately the Winds is not on that route.”
Cancel the Gaz. I will be stopping at REI so I will pick up the gas myself. If they don't have it, I will work something out with Bison or Sirpete. It all got kind of confusing.
I know what you have :) Alrighty then, that just made my day. Thank Phil for me.”
“We'll have no problem stopping at the REI in SLC, especially now that we're gettin' the car an hour earlier than we had originally planned.”
Contact number for wannabp and landscaper
“Good morning, fellow Wind-o-Roamers. Up early, aren't you? Nah, you're just right coasters........
This is our national cell phone number for this trip:
1 707 478 4211
No roaming, etc. so call if something comes up and don't sweat the minutes.”
“Exactly two weeks from now, I'll be sitting in a jet on my way to SLC!!!
Oh man oh man oh man!”
“I know we plan on Friday night at the New Forks group camp site. Is that the most efficient place to meet? Would we be better to meet in Pinedale and do the shuttle from there -- after the last supper?”
“I thought we we're meeting at the narrows campground, not the group site.”
“I personally think it would be better for everyone to meet at Pinedale at say 5 o'clock, but we need people to be at the campground as early as possible to secure campsites.”
“I went back over the e-mails and read that the Narrows campsite is a mile hike in. I don't want to hike in a mile, secure a site, then hike out to do a shuttle. Now you know, I'm lazy......
Pinedale for dinner sounds great. I think the van car trippers will probably still be on their sightseeing trip, but the rest of us could meet and do the shuttle from there.”
“I remember talk about a hostel in SLC, but I can't find it. Anyone remember or know where it is? We might want to stay there the Fri night we come out and start heading home.
BigPoppa, are we giving you a ride to the airport? When?”
“Yes, you are giving me a ride. How tight is the space. We need to get sirpete back to SLC also. I think there will be at least two cars left, I am hoping we can get everyone back to SLC who want to stay longer. We will figure out something.
Gremlin is securing the site early. He is getting there a day early. As I can remember, he was going to hit the main campsite and then the group.
As for meeting for dinner. I think we will be arriving in Pinedale around dinner time. I don't want to stay too long because I would like to get my tent set up and do a final check on gear. What about if we had somekind of Pot luck. We each stop and get some part of a dinner, enough for 13 people minus our drinks. Then at the campsite, we have a big picnic dinner. I will gladly bring the fruit bowl.
What do you think?”
are we there yet?”
Here are some photos......
“Nice pics Griz..can't wait!
Poor Andy..think he could've used a nurse along ? : )”
“yeah thanks for the treat!!”
“oh great griz...what a tease...it was hard to see the beautiful scenery for all the human handsomeness...lol....thanks for sharing those!
i have to sadly say that we are arriving in slc at 3pm=ish and it looks like you are outta the bun shop at 2pm........dang!...then we wont be back in slc until sat the 14th....but i guess you have saturday off? how bout dinner with a bunch of ECTT'ers on sat.nite?”
“That snow did not look unmanagable with just trek poles and sure footing. I am not going to worry about snow axes and such.
Great pics. Thanks.
Dang, I guess I should start packing. The more I think about the trip, the more crap I think about taking. I just added a heavier jacket which means I have to think about getting rid of something.
and then there is the food. I hate figuring out my meals. I am the type of guy who makes his dinner according to what he feels like eating. I just don't know if I feel like eating so much tuna.”
“I started getting things together today myself. This is very unlike me, I usually wait until the last minute. However a week without something is quite a long time. Especially if it one of the essentials”
“We won't be back to a computer until the trip. Call us at 707 478 4211 with our meeting place.”
“i spent the weekend reading Sierra Mel's High Country Cooking.
at first, i thought i was going to just buy the regular ole stuff, but she has really put together some great recipes that are way to easy to prepare and dehydrate....carrot and cucumber salad....you add water to the bag when you start out in the morning and by lunch stop...you are ready to dress and toss...ya gotta love it.
big poppa..i don't eat beef, but .do you like jerky? that is light and flat, also precooked and dried bacon? alternatives to tuna”
“That is a good idea. I will check out the bacon. I will problably go buy a few meals @ Dicks. Sometimes you just want something easy. Eating salads just make me hungry an hour later.”
“Thanks to songbyrd and Phil's page, I now know with wannabp and landscaper look like.
Very friendly looking couple.
I look forward to meeting y'all and everyone else in person.”
“bigpoppa....salad is just the first course!...:)”
camp water supplies?
“What is the water like where we will be camping each night?
If it's mostly snow melt and clear, I may just go with a filter bottle and chemical drops.
If it's muddy, my Pur Hiker will be needed.”
“I'm going to bring my pur hiker anyway.
Om I haven't seen a post from ole Mel in a coon's age. What is her web address again?”
“most of the lakes that are bigger than puddle size seemed very clear to me as well as creeks.... I used a filter and had no problems., ..looks like we are going by lots of water sources so dont have to carry more than what you will drink while hiking..
right bison or anyone else who knows the area?
sirpete, i would have to look up that website, or you could check Phils page, he may still have the link. I bought that from her in 99 at llamarama, havent heard much from mel in ages....:( ...miss her posting”
“om, you are correct, should only need to carry what you will need to drink.
Iffin you don't camp near a water source, I'm going to wonder what's wrong with ya'll.”
“woo hoo... just got my map from Latta!!”
“Better late then never.
My Marmot is going to be ready by thursday. I had a busted zipper. I am such a procastinator. It has only been broken for forever. When I get it back, I will need to wash it with that stuff to make it water proof again. I actually did not want to bring that jacket because of the weight, but with all the talk I decided to go with the heavy gortex jacktet.
Chief, I plan on camping near water. Water should not be a problem.”
“I have not heard from Gremln. I wish he would check in just to double check about the campsite and get his cell number. He said he was driving, but I thought he was not leaving until next week.
If I don't hear from him by next week, I will create a backup plan for the campsite thing.”
“I sent him an email yesterday and I have yet to hear from him. I will send him another and question him on the site.
he's a teacher so all he's doing is slackin off. May not even be home right now. Ya know how horny he gets, he might be out prowlin for a little sumpthin”
“Let me know if you hear anything.”
“I am looking at a few alternative routes to make it interesting. The way it reads, it should not be too difficult.
Is anyone else bringing a fishing pole? I am reading that there is some great fishing. I am banking on it,because I think I am going to go one meal short, I hope I can catch something. This will be my first time with a fly rod.”
“Fishing is fantastic throughout the winds, you won't have any problems catching fish. I'd bring a rod if I could afford a decent one hmmmm maybe I'll get one anyway.”
“A fishing pole hummmm
I guess I could strap a little more onto the pack?
I still haven't heard from Gremlin. I hope to though.
I picked up an MP3 player today. Pretty nifty devise!”
“Are you bringing an MP3 player?
I was going to bring my palm, but that was just for my journal.”
“yeah I am going to bring the player. BTW I got an email from Gremlin. Bigpappa you should be expecting a call on your cell from him”
“yipee and yahoo........getting the gear piles in order.....”
“I just left a gun at a buddy's place (don't want to leave any in an empty house) and he let me use his pooter. I'm leaving right now. I got a failure notice on my e-mail to Bigpoppa.
If I can't get him on his cell, I'll leave a message at the entrance of the campground - there shouldn't be that many.
Now the only problem is the border. If I have any problems I'll 'phone or post here.
See you soon.
“Here is another email address. Eclajus@fuse.net. Leave a message on my cell phone with a number and I will return it.
I also have piles of gear. I look at the piles and am thinking "this is a lot of stuff to be hauling up a moutain.”
“LOL, I have several litle piles....it doesn't look so bad that way.”
