Dayhiker, I moved to NC in September. Lost my job in VA and took one in Raleigh.

I have no idea what kind of lizards are around here.

I remember the loss but didn't hear about the move. Congrats on the job.

Lizards may be hard to find this time of year though.

"Why are you letting crickets go in your kitchen?"

"To feed the gecko, of course"

Get a hawk in there and then you'll have a mini web of life going on!

First of all don't assume unopened boxes won't become. Infested

Put everything in zip lock bags. If larva appear in the bags throw it out

The larva migrate away from the food source to pupate. Most likely under the baseboards or up the wall to where it meets the ceiling. Look for small spots that look like tight spiderwebs.

Get an aerosol pyrethrin and inject it under the baseboards in the immediate area. You can use it against the adults as a space spray but their lifespAn in adult stage is minimal

It is vital to isolate all foodsource material. The Ziplock bags will do that

Catch an adult and let me know if it is almond colored with a copper hue at the upper 1/3 of the wings

Call Geico,,,but I warn you, hearing "Fifteen Minutes could save you hundreds of dollars on your car insurance..." at 2 in the morning will be really annoying......

I`ll take a picture next time Seymore, my gecko, is out and about (my 2 year old nephew named him).

as for dogs, I think a gecko can get away pretty easily. a cat may cause problems though

read above, chili. I bought a gecko and let it free-roam around my house. It eats all my bugs and spiders, and generally stays hidden during the day

GEICO makes good ads but their insurance is way more $$$.

How big do geckos get?

depends on the type of gecko, I think. Mine, with tail, is about the length of a pencil or so... maybe shorter

Chili, I haven't seen the worms for a couple of weeks, but they were almond colored and maybe 3/4 of an inch long. The moths have black wings and maybe a whiteish colored body.

Thanks for the info. :)

haha, I was trying to think of a common object that was about the same size as a gecko... pencil was the winner. I should have known better.

Ha! That reminds me of the time a weasel got into my dad's house. My dad wouldn't trap it or chase it away because it was catching mice.

hey chili - would Permanone work for killing a bunch of yellowjackets that have gotten into the wall of a house? - ie spray it around where they are getting into the house

Yes it will work, but getting a dust in the void would be better. You should be able to use Sevin dust. Just get a bulb duster of soemthing you can get use to apply it in the void.

This information might help:

http://www.honeybeelab.com/wiki/Fact_Sheet:Yellowjackets

I have used traps very effectively but when I read the info from Ohio State, I have to admit, it was the first time I ever heard of a "fish or liver trap", lol.

Anything with permethrin will be effective. The key is to get enough of it on them or on an area where they have to be exposed to it.

would the sevin work for red wasps? Sometimes I think my whole house is a nest for them. I use the wasp spray to spray on the openings but it doesn't last long :(

The contact killer used in Wasp Spray has a very short life span.

Hit them straight on and you are in business. Spray it on and let it dry and it is pretty useless.

They get up under the soffits and in the attic and just multiply year after year as more queens over winter around your house.

Spraying the eaves with a good micro encapsulate insecticide in the early spring is the most effective. If you can get dust in the eaves Ewker that would provide some relief now. Keep in mind you don't need to cake it on. Just a fine layer will be sufficient.

I once saw a guy on his hands and knees sticking his finger to his tounge and then sticking it to the floor to pick up a speck and then back to his tounge.

He was looking for a purple micro dot. Dude must have been in a bad way. I don't think the floor has ever been cleaned in the history of the building.

I mean I imagine it would work.......not that Ive tried it, you know back in high school....
