Snafu, right now the concensice(sp) is that he would probably never see the cards, but I am sure the family would appreciate them.

The adress for Mass General Trauma and burns is:
Bigelow 13
55 Fruit Street
Boston, Ma 02114

I am not sure if this is where he is though.

Thanks LT and Amy,
I have not been able to read all the threads due to wicked busy. I feel very bad about this, I hope he is okay.

The address for the Pedxing @ the hospital is:

David Vogel
c/o Massachusetts General Hospital
55 Fruit Street
Boston, MA 02114-2696 (I gave the nine digit zip incorrectly in a previous post on the first page of this thread)

Both MadRiver and I spoke to Ellen and she said cards, flowers, etc. may be inappropriate at this time. Madriver posted "Although she appreciates the thought of flowers and cards, she doesn’t believe that given his current state they would be appropriate. David will be in the burn unit for at least three to four months, so there is ample time to send cards and flowers."

Perhaps we could send cards to "The Family of David Vogel" at his home address AmyG posted to let them know we are supporting them with thoughts, prayers and anything else we can do.

Thanks Skiracer,
I will wait til the appropriate time. I read through the entire thread and it is just terrible. Only good part is that he is in one of the best hospitals for burns in the country. David is strong and will have a tons of support.
Count me in on what ever type of donation that gets set up...
My prayers are with him and his family.

I just received an email from Ellen and she says that David is improving. His lungs are almost free of soot and his breathing is much better. I did ask about setting up a fund, so I will let you know her response.

Thanks for good news. Unless I'm wrong, I would say that is one of the most critical hurdles he could get over at this point...

I checked in on TT just before my first class this morning and was only able to scan the first page of postings, so it's great to come back now, read all the postings and reach the latest news that ped is showing improvement in his breathing.

It is devastating to have a friend such as ped-xing suffer such injury -- and though I've never met him, exchanging messages here for several years has made him a real friend in my mind, as many have noted.

I, too, will be focusing all the positive thought and energy I can muster your way, ped. Yes, you are hiking a "Long Trail" now. But know that the TT family is standing by to walk at your side in the days and months and years ahead.

Our sadness runs deep.

My God give the gift of warm sunlight on Daves path to recovery and that has family be blessed with the warmth and joy that all his family and hiking friends give to him.

Be well and be warm Dave.

I just received an email from Ellen who is extremely touched by the outpouring of love and support shown towards David during this crucial time. After some reflection, she has decided to accept our offer of establishing a fund for David and his family. She will visit a bank in the next day or two and forward the information to us so we can send our support. I also mentioned our desire to help supply food, clothing, and other items that were lost in the fire, so I will keep you updated as to her decision.

I also got an e-mail from Ellen. She was amazed that there have been "so many amazing requests from people to help, people who have probably never met David."

The good news is that David's lungs were cleared of lots of soot and the level of support for his breathing has been lowered.

Like MadRiver said, she wants to talk to David's bank first, so please be patient.

This is great news! Keep that positive energy flowing...

I stopped by Pedxings' house. Judgeing from the debris on the
ground, it looks like at least one
room in the front really lit up.
At least 8 windows on the 2d floor are boarded up after ventillation by the firemen.Looks
like a lot of smoke damage that
travelled along the loft from front to rear.
There is a firehouse a block away
from the corner of his street. The
guys on duty didn't work that night. They mentioned the delayed
response as he tried to put the
fire out by himself when they were
two minutes away. (Something that
will allways be an item of perplexity to firemen.)Anyhow, I
passed the message along in any of
them wanted to post to TT.

sunny street. Nice neighborhood.

Thanks for the updates.

I remember doing "inspections" after several major fires in the North State. A couple things that always struck me.....how everyone came together to help and watching family's go through the rubble looking for anything that could be saved.

Prayers and good thoughts
