Just got back from the Lost CoastView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 5 of 5 messages posted.
“Man-o-man! I love that place! I just completed another thru-hike of the Lost Coast this last three-day weekend. There were 13 of us, mostly from the REI camping department, but I had a few other friends come along, one driving all the way from Idaho. We started at the mouth of the Mattole River and ended up at Shelter Cove, which is about 25 miles of wild beach hiking. I've hiked the Lost Coast a couple dozen times now, but this was only my second full-on thru-hike because the shuttle from the trailheads is quite an effort. The weather was stunning... almost too good. It was sunny and very WARM. We had our usual driftwood bonfires on the beach as we watched the sunset over the Pacific horizon. Since the weather was so nice, the creek crossings weren't too bad. I absolutely love this place. I'll do a trip report when I get my photos back. This weekend is another three-dayer for us gov't workers, YAAAA! We'll probably head to Yosemite or Sequoia/Kings Canyon. The Sacramento Kings won last night, it was sweet. Be good. Bye.” 3:51:15 PM 2/12/04 “sounds like a great trip Buck. It's been on my list for a while. I got engaged at a little B-n-B on the south end of that hike last year and ever since then I've wanted to go back and hike that trail.” 4:00:52 PM 2/12/04 “I haven't hiked that area. Looking forward to the pictures!” 10:24:23 PM 2/12/04 “lucky dog you :) I love that hike but havent been there during the winter. How were all the stream crossings?” 4:42:32 AM 2/13/04 “Hi Ms Crazy! The stream crossings weren't too bad for being February. I've seen a lot worse there, that's for sure. Still, the stream crossings were all "wet" crossings, requiring a wade, but where the creeks fans out on the beach most of the crossings were only knee deep. It just adds to the adventure. There were lots of spectacular waterfalls coming off the cliffs. I left some scenery for ya if you plan to hike it soon.” 1:30:13 PM 2/13/04
