flat rock is a great view, and a nice shelter is not too far away. maybe we can go to hemlocks natural area, cool place- a gorge with old growth forest.

It would be cool to do around 15 miles on Saturday and 10 miles on Sunday. I like the climb up to Flatrock vista and the shelter nearby is very nice.

I'd like to see Doubling Gap vista as well.

I got to look into what weekends will be good.

Jeff, what is your prognosis?

TT sure does have plenty of rocks and boulders. Don't know if y'uns have noticed that it's closed east of the TSF tract near Colonel Denning out to the next road due to private property issues. An alternative might be to use the Woodburn Trail from PA 233 up to the wagon wheel. You he-men will just love humping a pack up that one, you will have earned your shelter stay. Then head south, back down through the park and easy back up then pretty flat to Cowpens Rd- then you've got 2400' of climb from there to Hemlocks NA. (But the Fowlers Hollow shelter is in the middle of that stretch.)

There's been a lot of improvement, but it's still weak. I have to see a sports injury doctor next week. Maybe 3 weeks?

I'm going to do a dayhike this weekend.

I am thinking sometime in January.

Crazypace, any weekend in January ok for you? I am just thinking of doing it as an overnighter.

Another idea I have is to do a section of the Mid State Trail, maybe the section north of where we hiked this past march .. or maybe we could do the Everett Knife Edge section and stealth camp.

Or.... the Everett MST Knife Edge section could be done as a dayhike. I am guessing that is about 2 hours from here. I think the section is about 16 miles and the most rugged on the MST and high on my hiking to-do list.

I kinda like the MLK weekend, I don't get the holiday off anymore but hunting's finally through by then. Had a great trip last year then so was trying to think of another.

I kinda like the Tuscarora idea but I can't quite keep up with many of you anymore (wish I had discovered these websites sooner so I would maybe have kept in better shape). I could do Fri nite up the Woodburn into Wagon Wheel shelter and Sat over to Fowlers Hollow but then on Sun I'd probably be done for and hike out to Fowlers Hollow SP instead of over to Hemlocks. Also in Jan the road into the Hemlocks may be impassable (they may actually gate it off) so would need then to hike out the Hemlocks Road to Big Spring or keep going on the Tuscarora to PA 641. Would have to investigate long term parking on the 641 end.

As for the MST Knife Edge, y'uns are welcome to it. I used to maintain the northern 1/3 of that stretch. No legal camping, no water unless you get WAY down off trail at Biddle Place at the northern 2/3-1/3 point. Lots of what the geocachers call "muggles" hang around there. I was falsely accused by one of those last year of violating Game Land use regulations while doing trail work there and it took two whole months for the WCO's "investigation" to drop it.

There are some nice views up there. http://picasaweb.google.com/hike.pix/Everett# Probably the nicest one is off trail at the northern 5/6-1/6 point heading north - go up an unblazed mgt road to the east to an old fire tower site - maybe 1/2 mile up and back

What's a muggle?

Nothing, what's a muggle with you?

No, seriously, what's a muggle?

Ok, I looked it up. A muggle would not know they're a muggle, by definition.

also, it means 'marijuana'.

far out

nice pics, pete.

ENS, we can do that section of the MST as a buttkicking dayhike, and camp at Shawnee State Park.

I would like to do that. Maybe sometime pre-spring, pre-rattle snake.... say early march.

They actually aren't my pix, fellow from Connecticut hiked MST from 22 south and Hairy Johns north this year but he's on dialup, mailed me a CD then I posted them.

I think it's time to start discussing a fall backpacking trip somewhere in PA. November? Somewhere on the MST has been discussed. Jmitch, got any free weekends in November and any good ideas?

Nov is good, before then, not so good.

MST from Old Coudersport Pike to Blackwell?

Or one of my loops through the Loyalsock State Forest with tons of waterfalls and a secluded mountain top pond?

Laurel Highlands Trail?

Hate to say this, but the Blackwell Hotel is closed indefinitely. Really puts a damper on that community as a Friday late evening meeting point. :(

Trip in November anyone?

I need to do the BFT by the end of the year, my 10th anniversary backpack.

I'd like to get out in November. I'll keep an eye out and see what gets planned. I might have another surgery coming up. I'm not sure yet, but I'll have to wait and see what happens with that.

Highmaintenace and I will be up in Adamstown for the Stoudt Brewery Company 12k.

http://lrrclub.org/StoudtDistanceClassic

Not sure exactly what we are doing after the post race 'recarbination' (ie consumption of some Stoudt Beer) but we may head up to Cabela's and then on to Port Clinton and the AT...

Probably won't have time for much of a hike, but a bag night and a little 'hootch' will be in order...

If anyone is going to be in the area, let me know..

BFT this weekend
Might do a solo this weekend if the weather holds. Plan to hammer out some mileage and do the loop in 2 or 2.5 days. If anyone is interested, let me know.
