Edit Tea's PapersView Messages“Thanks guys who actualy helped. By showing corrections. Much apreciated. Ski- I did look this paper over before I "blasted" it off. Its the best I could do. Geo, Ynimainasiniaimaim, I agree communication is a key part of life...but this proff sucks. He simply has us write the paper then hand it in. He marks it w/ his red pen and then tells u to make the changes. He doesn't show you why those changes should take places. I did choose to take this class. No one forced me. It probly is a good class, if I had a different proffesor. Thanks guys for the corrections” 1:49:11 PM 12/18/03 “guys, thanks mega big time with noticing the never ending quote” 1:49:55 PM 12/18/03 “I did choose to take this class. No one forced me. Ice Tea 01:49:11 PM 12/18/03 If no one forced you, some one should have. It's amazing and disheartening to see that not only did you graduate high school with such atrocious writing skills, but you also got admitted to an actual college.” 1:55:20 PM 12/18/03 “Well at least you're addressing it Tea. There are loads of books on grammar out there. Go buy a couple and see if you can get less red marks on the paper.” 1:57:22 PM 12/18/03 Your going to love the next paper for this class “Its about online dating..” 2:01:29 PM 12/18/03 “Hey denizen - Feel bigger now?” 2:02:43 PM 12/18/03 “"Its about online dating.." Finally! The torid details on Scrotchy!” 2:07:09 PM 12/18/03 “Hey VioLiN - no. I used "some one" as two words for effect.” 2:07:41 PM 12/18/03 “I think the only effect it had was showing your stupid...” 2:13:28 PM 12/18/03 “= you're ;o)” 2:15:27 PM 12/18/03 “Ice Tea, I'm sorry you didn't think I was helpful. I'd be interested in seeing the paper you turned in and what the grade ends up being. It's kind of like the difference between learning to earn a living vs. shouting out, "Hey! Anyone have a dollar?" everytime you needed a dollar. Pretty soon, people catch on and get sick of you asking for a dollar.” 2:16:46 PM 12/18/03 “I agree with Denizen. He was just telling it like it is.” 2:18:42 PM 12/18/03 “I are just an injuneer, but shouldn't the sentence, 'Their break up has not effected Rick and I', be changed to 'Their break up has not affected Rick and me'?” 2:20:55 PM 12/18/03 “probably, but I just handed the paper in 2 minutes ago.” 2:23:12 PM 12/18/03 “I had more than an hour.... Ski, I bet u I get an A.” 2:23:36 PM 12/18/03 “Scorchy and I wont be examples in the essay” 2:24:04 PM 12/18/03 “"= you're ;o)" This is the very thing that gives me the right to rip on him Yaminimini. Tea's spelling used to drive me nuts but hey, I have my slips too. LOL!” 2:24:30 PM 12/18/03 “"Ski, I bet u I get an A" - you mean WE got an A Ice. I'm sure you'll be very proud of it.” 2:30:22 PM 12/18/03 “no...I allways get A's. I'm not proud of the construction and grammar of my essays. But I am thrilled that I could put so much passion into words. I suprised my self when I reread it.” 2:33:23 PM 12/18/03 “I’m glad you at least see that you have a problem and took the initiative to take a class to help. Unfortunately you are going to find that some professors don’t teach very well or in a way that helps you individually. I poke fun, but it could easily be me on the receiving end. Good luck with you future studies.” 2:49:00 PM 12/18/03 “Questions of grandma and spellink aside, ure story was moving? Did you really make it all up?” 2:54:07 PM 12/18/03 “Just the first and last paragraph...everything inbetween is true” 2:58:58 PM 12/18/03 “Shoot... sorry I missed the chance to help out with your paper. I'll take a stab at the online dating paper when you send it out!” 3:02:55 PM 12/18/03 “thanks” 3:06:35 PM 12/18/03 “Tea, you will find yourself working for and with unreasonable people at various times in your life. I don't know how the class is structured or taught, but perhaps the reason he doesn't let you know what the specific problems are is because you should have learned it in class. Don't push everything off on the instructor. All of this criticism, and I want you to understand that it is meant by all of us as constructive criticism, is pointed in the direction that you need to take on personal responsibility, both in what you turn in as a paper and in the learning process. If you had posted what you did and nobody responded, that would mean that nobody cares, and that would be a problem. Keep working at it. It will be easier to get the point now than at a later age. And yes, everybody makes mistakes, yours truly included, but when every other word is misspelled the message people get is that you just don't care enough to do better. Getting A's in college does not necessarily translate into success in the working world. When you get out and start working, you will understand that in college you led a sheltered life. There's no shelter in the workplace, particularly when the number of workers exceeds the number of jobs. Good luck with it. And work at it.” 3:22:21 PM 12/18/03 “"Thanks guys who actualy helped. It probly is a good class, if I had a different proffesor. Thanks guys for the corrections" Ice Tea 01:49:11 PM 12/18/03 Tea, It really doesn't matter how good the professor is. You are responsible for your own education. You're now out of high school and in college. No one is going to spoon feed you your education. In the past three or four years that I've seen you on TrailTalk, I've seen your spelling and grammar constantly under fire, yet you have written it off. Yes, this is a web board dedicated to a hobby. No, we're not your employers, your professors, or possibly even your potential employers. Should that make a diffference in whether you put effort in making sure your written communication is grammitcally correct, properly punctuated, uses proper diction and the words are spelled properly? No! Every word you write, be it on an exam, in an e-mail, to a web discussion board or on a masters thesis reinforces good writing habits or bad ones. Which do you choose to reinforce? So far it's been the bad habits. I cringe when I see supposedly intelligent people write with such disregard for accuracy and correctness. My advice to you, Ice Tea, is to take a break from Trail Talk (yes, I know, it's a difficult thing to do) and focus on your studies. Your teacher doesn't tell you why you should put a comma here or there. OK, find out for yourself! Try scheduling a time outside of class to meet with the professor and ask him. He won't tell you, ask someone else. I'm sure the English department at your college has more instructors than just this one! Find a book on punctuation and a grammer primer. Finish your drafts two or three days before they are due. Take a day off and then attack them with your grammar, punctuation primers, and a dictionary and thesaurus. Take the time to get the papers correct. Don't trust the spelling and grammar checker on your computer, do it by hand and learn the rules to proper sentence structure and punctuation. Once you have a handle on those, as well as diction and choice of word forms, use the spelling and grammar checker, but confirm each change suggested jives with the rules.” 4:24:26 PM 12/18/03 “F-. Teakowski....... zero-point-zero. Fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son.” 8:23:23 PM 12/18/03 “On a typo tirade, judge holds lawyer to letters of law By Michael Klein Inquirer Poor spelling can cost you, as we see in the civil-rights case of Devore v. City of Philadelphia. Bucks County lawyer Brian Puricelli helped get a $354,167 award for his client, ex-Philly Police Officer John Devore, who had sued the department. U.S. Magistrate JudgeJacob P. Hart ruled Friday that the Newtown Township lawyer could receive $300 an hour for his courtroom work, but only $150 for his writing, which the judge and defense counsel found replete with typos. Hart wrote in his opinion that Puricelli's pleadings were "careless, to the point of disrespectful." Hart cited Puricelli's repeated identification of the "United States District Court for the Easter District of Pennsylvania." "Considering the religious persuasion of the presiding officer," Hart wrote, "the 'Passover' District would have been more appropriate." What also may have set off Hart was Puricelli's letter, addressing the judge as "Jacon" Hart. "I appreciate the elevation to what sounds like a character in The Lord of the Rings," Hart wrote, "but, alas, I am but a judge." By e-mail, Puricelli commented: "No insult was intended by the written work and we all made such errors. I was pleased that Judge Hart balanced his remarks with a glowing comment on my in-court trial work and abilities. As a litigator this is important."” 3:46:15 PM 3/01/04 “So who wrote the email for him?” 3:49:26 PM 3/01/04 “Was spelling a problem? 8p” 4:07:29 PM 3/01/04
