“Plans are for most of the spring starting around the beginning of March until around the middle of May. Then I will be going north, maybe to Minnesota before Iowa and my youngest daughter's graduation from Grinnell on May 23^rd. But I have a daughter in the hospital here and I have to see how things work out for her. Watch the Get UP! thread for updates.”

The really really GREAT thing about not being married is I can do what I want when I want too without preapproved planning. LOL

I have no real plan. I'm maybe going to drive up to Atlanta Sunday or Monday and hit the gear stores, then try and hit The Dillard House in N. GA for a meal. Maybe finish the end of the GA AT section I need to if I can find a shuttle service that will not charge me $100. Drive up into the Smokies maybe by the middle of the week. See if I can find Nowslimmer to give him some MREs. Stay a couple of days somewhere on the NC side. Drive back Sat or Sun.

“Hey NS...have you ever paddled across Fontana lake to campsite #87 at GSMNP??

Was wondering how long a paddle it is, what condition the campsite is in, etc.”

“MDSHike - I was at the dam just a few days ago. I believe I saw the Island from the dam. It is not too far from the Fontana Marina. The lake's water-level was almost at it's highest, but they may have started to draw it down.

I took a shuttle to CS#90 last fall. From there I hit CS#90 and the three campsites above it on Eagle Creek and CS# 91, which is up above CS#90 along Lost Cove Trail. Previously, I have backpacked several times to CS#90;

The shuttle returned for me at CS#90 and dropped me off at the Island with CS#87. I stayed there one night. The campsite was in good shape. I enjoyed it.

The trailhead is at the north end of the Island. At low tide(when the lake is down low), the Island is connected to the mainland north of the Island.

At Tsali I tried to find the leak in my inflatable kayak, but failed. I did paddle around for a while. However, I decided not to use it to cross Fontana Lake to CS#72, 73 and 78.
