North Ga or Tn 12/20-12/22

“Hey everyone...
I was hoping to get out this weekend since it will be the first saturday ive had off in a long time. I was gonna join a trip, but the only one in this timeframe is the one in maryland, and I wouldnt be looking forward to an 18 hour drive for just an overnighter that weekend. Would anyone be interested in a long weekend somewhere in N. GA or TN? Im flexible as far as location and duration, so lemme know what you think...”

“I might be interested in an overnighter that weekend...Can't do two days, I'm only taking one day off for Christmas this year so I can carry a few days over to next year.”

“I's living in Atlanta, but I have christmas week off, so after the hike I will be going back home to Chattanooga. I could do either an overnighter or a multiday, so whatever would be good for yall. Im just sick of solo hikes, and I could definitly use a change of scenery.”

“Hey guys...I might be up for a trip that weekend...have to work late Friday, but would be up for an overnight on Saturday/Sunday.”

“I'm not too picky...Never been to Hobb's cabin in Savage Gulf, that might be fun.”

“I have to work friday evening, so by the time I could get out of atlanta traffic it would have to be a sat/sun trip. Hobbs cabin would be cool, and it would be short/long enough that we could either do 1 or 2 nights, depending on schedules. Didnt someone have a trip at hobbs cabin not long ago and said it was infested with ticks?”

“A late Sat start would be great for me as I will not have to take off work Friday to drive up from the coast.
I could leave very early Sat morning and get to Savage gulf that afternoon. Maybe come into camp late.”

“I was looking for a trip at Christmas break, so I would be interested in this trip also. I may have to plan one in the mtns of East TN, Western NC, or even Ga or Ala between Christmas and New Years. DK know our plans before Christmas yet, always last minute shopping for me.”

“...And I would finally get to meet the famous Stovestomper. Seems we never can cross paths.”

“So would everyone be ok with an afternoon start on saturday?”

“Oh crap, checked at work this morning and I'm supposted to work Monday, Tuesday of Xmas week.
I'm then off till New Year.”

“Me too, I have 24th off thru Jan 5th. Lets plan something after Christmas. I'm open to go anywhere.”

“That would be me covered in ticks........but surely there aren't any this time of year!!!...if there is I am not going in Jan!!!”

“Divinity must be some sort of tick magnet. I didn't have any at Savage Falls a couple weekends ago.

Of course Hobbs Cabin might just be full of them or something like that.

Saturday afternoon start is fine by me...hopefully Hobbs Cabin won't fill up too fast on a cold December weekend.”

“I’m going to be backpacking the AT in the Smokies from Newfound Gap down to Fontana starting on Dec. 28 till Jan. 2.

The itenarary is Dec 28 Mt. Collins then either Silers or Double Spring (I think Silers and this is only portion I am fuzzy about) then Derrick Knob, Spence Field on New Years then Mollies Ridge and out to Fontana the next day.

I'm going with some other folks who invited me along on thier trip but it would be cool to see a few TTer's out there.

“That would be great Bit. If SS isnt going we could get a somewhat earlier start on saturday. Are you interested in doing a one or 2 nighter? What was the cabin like divinity? I have no idea how many bunks there are in it, or what kind of shape its in.”

“I can only do an overnighter. Earlier start would be great, it looks like about a 7.5 mile hike. Just be warned, I'm slooooow...lol... If you hike on ahead of me that's okay.”

“Count me out for the weekend before Xmass. I need to work Mon/Tues. Y'all have fun!”

“I got covered by ticks this summer.....

the cabin is great...a fire place...4 bunks....lots of floor sleeping space too

a big table with a bench to do all your cooking........and mice.....LOL.....spring nearby.......down a steep hill tho....and you can see the stars at night........”

After hiking behind my last TT hiker, I don't think I could handle looking at bit's behind for hours. ;)”

“Well, I only know the gross details...apparently some TT'ers took a trip to Hobbs Cabin and moved their stuff into it, only later to find out that one guy who arrived earlier had staked it out all for himself. He apparently hiked out in a huff and complained to the rangers, who gave the TT'ers Whut For. That's all I know...I wasn't there.”

“I dunno....Someone who knows more will have to fill in at this point.

“if you thought it would be worth it we could get there really early on saturday and do a shuttle over to the stone door. The hike from stone door to hobbs cabin sounds rugged, but it would be a change of scenery instead of doing an out and back.”

“fonsie, I'd never make it dude...7.5 miles of flat trail is going to be about all I can handle. The climb up out of the Gulf on the Connector trail looks brutal, and I really suck wind on uphills...

We can always go in on the North Rim trail and go out on the North Plateau trail, or vice versa.”

“I wouldnt mind taking theem all........but my girlfriend might. I was thinking I would go ahead and bring my smaller tent as well. Id rather carry a few extra pounds than get there and realize I need it. Besides, packing the extra weight might help me work off thanksgiving food so I can start fresh for christmas.”
