Hey LZ...
And Now for Something Completely Different...

...you should come down to the Old Loggers Path next week. We're going to have a hoot-nanny hoe-down, Pennsylvania style (if such a thing even exists -- if not, we'll just make something up... (it's not like anyone will know the difference... (did I just say that out loud???)))

See the trips page for details...

I'm not going backpacking in PA. However, if you guys are car camping Friday night I might rent a car and camp with you guys if someone will loan me a bag, pad, and tent. Then I might dayhike with you guys some on Sat and then head back. How does that sound?

Dub - You're gonna drive from Connecticut all the way to Pennsylvania and not backpack? What the hell is wrong with you?

ENS/Scorch - I would love to go on that trip, but even the new proposed dates don't help me. I'll be flying back from Chicago that Sunday.

LZ - bummer dude. We'll have to try another time.

Simer - Sounds like a rockin' show. I'll be expecting a fully detailed trip report...

What's wrong with me? Well for one I'll be working hard all week and I'll need a break on the weekend. Carrying a 35lbs backpack for 8 hours a day up and down hills isn't exactly a [keyword]relaxing break. I love backpacking and all...but when I'm worn out and need some rest and relaxation I don't backpack.

Second, I would have had to check another bag with my gear and carry it around 2 airports. One is bad enough, two would suck.

Third, I have stuff I gotta do on Sunday for work, so if I get back Saturday it's much better.

So I ask again, can anyone hook me up for some car camping Friday? If so I'll rent a car and come dayhike with you guys. I can get a car for $9.99/day so it's no big deal. If anything just bring me a sleeping bag and I'll sleep in the rental. But preferably if you've got a bag/pad/tent to spare that'd be awesome. I'd hook one of you guys up in Ohio if you needed help like that, so help a brotha out!

BTW, I'm already in CT without my gear

Chill out Dub, I'm just busting your chops. If you want come hang out, I've got a site at World's End State Park Friday night. Scorch and I will be there around 11 PM or so -- don't know yet if and when anyone else is coming...

I've only got a solo tent though, so I can't help ya there. If you want to come for a dayhike, there's numerous road crossings on the OLP -- maybe we can spot your car along one of them.

Details are on the Trips page. There's also links there for resources regarding Worlds End SP. You can look up Forksville, PA, on Mapquest for directions; Worlds End SP is about 3 miles south/east of town on PA 154.

Dub, My sentiments exactly. That's the same reason I don't have a membership to a gym. Too much work when I should be relaxing. A good hike at a local park is relaxing and free. Nothing better than that. Except beer...and donuts.

No, the homemade is more like a tent. I'm talking about the 5 x 8 siltarp. Its a great emergency shelter.

My homemade is a lot heavier. Didn't really have the right materials. Now that I've built one though, I'd be willing to invest more in material and do it right.

Dub, I actually do have an old bag that I use mainly for crashing in the car and/or at friends houses. It's got no hood, but I don't think that should be a problem in August. I'll bring it along if u want to borrow it.

That being said, anyone up for a pool? What should we give Dub for staying out under the stars if there's a significant chance of rain? And, how should we define significant?

Luckily, Dayton has a great park system. I have two very good parks down the street about 1/4 mile apart. The Metropark is alway's crowded while the city park seems to be less known. As many times as I drove by it I never realized it was there until somebody told me. They both have several miles of trail. Well worn but good for a stroll none the less.
Silent J

I've got a 3-mile path along a creek in a park a couple miles away. It's all flat and would be great for skating, except that the pavement is too uneven and cracked, making it a deathtrap for skates.

Excellent jogging path though; you can make a there-and-back trip up to 6 miles long...
