What's going on tonight?” 9:43:17 PM 6/08/04 NJ Pine Barrens, Anyone? “What's up, folks? I just updated my Pine Barrens trip description for this fall. If I can interest any of you, click here for details. One caveat though, I may be changing the dates to one weekend earlier (30-31 October) to fit the Halloween theme. Further details TBA.” 10:02:52 PM 6/08/04 “So now that I'm done plugging my trip, what's eveyone else been up to tonight?” 10:03:19 PM 6/08/04 “Eh, this thread is more dead than the cemetery up the road...” 10:35:34 PM 6/08/04 “I ate you guys!!!” 10:37:26 PM 6/08/04 “So, anybody wanna come hang out in NC with me on June 19, 20 and maybe the 21 too? anybody? Panthertown Valley, its a really cool place.” 11:18:46 PM 6/08/04 “umm... anybody coming to MN for a great trip in the Boundary Waters in September?” 11:22:35 PM 6/08/04 “Can't the 21st is my mothers birthday.” 11:23:43 PM 6/08/04 “Well good night. Catch you guys tomorrow.” 11:26:01 PM 6/08/04 “Goodnight? You wanker.” 1:15:31 AM 6/09/04 “who u callin a wanker u uhh... you know.” 1:18:05 AM 6/09/04 “Spanker?” 1:30:14 AM 6/09/04 “you gonna be spankin me?” 1:33:29 AM 6/09/04 “Wouldn't that be like cradle robbing?” 1:37:23 AM 6/09/04 “you're what... 23? i'm 20, how do you figure” 1:42:27 AM 6/09/04 “I thought u were 17. Well I guess it couldn't hurt.. afterall, I'm already robbing the cradle with Luke who just turned 21 in May.” 1:44:14 AM 6/09/04 “well, i'm 19 - give me a week or two and i'll be 20” 1:54:36 AM 6/09/04 “Luke's got some competition for my cradle robbing!” 2:01:18 AM 6/09/04 “I'm gonna attempt to get to bed before 4am tonight. It's my goal. G'nite ya wankers.” 2:15:40 AM 6/09/04 “g'nite... it's past my bed time too” 2:16:33 AM 6/09/04 “And.. I'm still awake.” 5:43:00 AM 6/09/04 “drugs and alcohol will help Scorch, trust me....” 6:26:22 AM 6/09/04 “g'morning folks” 8:11:38 AM 6/09/04 “I was up at 5, Scorch, but then I hit the snooze and went back to sleep.” 12:58:03 PM 6/09/04 “ok, since the night crawlers ain't out yet, no reason to go fishin... so by until tomorrow. Gosh I gotta get that land line so I can hook up my puter at home. Afternoon, All, wish me luck w/ a job.” 1:22:20 PM 6/09/04 “Is a land line anything like a shoreline?” 1:26:06 PM 6/09/04 “good luck!” 1:30:04 PM 6/09/04 Stupid Roommates! “Turning the damn A/C off when it's 90f outside! I guess I'll have to teach them a lesson this winter when they moan and cry about the heater--by turning it off all winter as they are doing the a/c again!” 2:45:30 PM 6/09/04 “good luck mtnmom!!!” 2:59:45 PM 6/09/04 “k, I'm back: no immediate luck imminent. LZ: a land line phone is a regular phone verses a cell phone which uses land lines but they charge you regardless of who calls who. Man, I wish I had know that when I signed the contract.” 4:18:22 PM 6/09/04 “Dub: Ha ha! I remember the thermostat wars we used to have back at school. Seems like there was never a setting where everyone was comfortable. Roam: No fair! South Jersey can't compete with Western North Carolina -- oh wait, they're on different weekends. Nevermind -- as you were. But seriously, It looks like I'm headed to the Adirondacks to bag a few peaks this weekend. Vee shall see...” 6:22:01 PM 6/09/04 “BAstards, you'd think after living together for almost 3 years we'd have finally settled this stupid issue. But they want it all their way and don't want to compromise. I left it alone all winter despite it getting hot sometimes and a huge gas bill because they whined about being cold. It's summer and the opposite, I hate being hot, they should leave it alone. If they don't, this winter will be very cold.” 6:34:48 PM 6/09/04 Dub “I thought it was YOUR house!” 7:05:06 PM 6/09/04 know what the... “best part about a kids birthday is? left over cake and ice cream!” 7:06:11 PM 6/09/04 “It IS my damn house. I've left multiple message and told them multiple times to leave the damn thing alone, yet it manages to turn itself off and no one is responsible for it. If it's off tomorrow morning I'm supergluing the #&%!$ on.” 8:28:59 PM 6/09/04 “If you can stand it, turn the heat on.” 8:32:06 PM 6/09/04 “I can't stand it...but when I leave for a weekend I'm turning it on.” 8:33:45 PM 6/09/04 “Be sure to take the switches off of the heaters and air conditioners so they can't adjust them.” 8:37:44 PM 6/09/04 “The Revenge of Dub! lol that oughtta be good.” 9:00:23 PM 6/09/04 “"Luke's got some competition for my cradle robbing!" ScorchFire 02:01:18 AM (clears throat to get attention) 22 here scorch...” 9:03:20 PM 6/09/04 “I'm 25, but have been told I have the mentality of a 7 year old.” 9:42:07 PM 6/09/04 “i still feel 19, does that count?” 10:13:32 PM 6/09/04 “25 here....AND just across the river in NJ....” 11:37:24 PM 6/09/04 “Hey Dub, we had like one of those funky thermostats where the dial was like a little knob that would come off. I used to hide the knob all the time because you couldn't control the thermostat without it. Oh, the roomies hated me for that....LOL” 11:39:59 PM 6/09/04 “I have a digital thermostat which is passworded so they can't change the temp. But they can turn it on and off. My roommate tried to embarass me today. He decided he'd bring his coworker over, the genius who is anti-401(k) to tell me how much better it was to invest all of your money in a business or real estate. While those are good investments as well, and I never said you should invest ALL of your money in a 401(k) but instead diversify your investments...this guy still claims 401(k)'s won't last when LA gets nuked and the stock market crashes. I tried to explain to him that if such a thing happened most people would lose a lot of money AND property like in the depression. The only thing he agreed was good about a 401(k) was the tax benefit. What I'm trying to convince my roommate to do is do the minimum investment for the 401(k) matching. His company matches $1 for $1 up to 3% and $.50 on the $1 to 5%. I explained this was free money and you would never miss 5% of your new salary. His new friend though insists that the matching is menial and he'll make more by ignoring it and just investing in real estate. I asked him what happens if his newfound business fails or the market crashes what his contingency plan was, something like a 401(k)...his response, "It won't fail because if it fails I have failed and I am not a failure." I then told him that 2 out of every 3 businesses fail within the first 12 months and then 3/4 fail within 4 years. Having your own business is for some people...but he's trying to convince my roommate that it is for everyone. My response, "the guy you're looking at has never been able to balance his checkbook let alone manage his debts. And you're expecting him to save, invest, and manage all this money...unlikely." Idiots.” 12:57:16 AM 6/10/04 “yeah, i understood like half of those words” 1:03:51 AM 6/10/04 “fun stuff” 1:51:38 AM 6/10/04 “always, always, always take advantage of the company match. Unless they make you buy employer stock with it. Or maybe unless you know you won't be around there long enough to become vested in it. Your exactly right Dub.” 6:06:07 AM 6/10/04 “dont know what to do with my money...what do you think is the nest thing to do roam...lets say for about 100 a week what do i do...long term and all??i been looking at stuff to dowith it but dont know really...” 6:49:29 AM 6/10/04 “depends heavily on what your specific goals are for the cash, like saving for a house vs. for retirement. But just offhand without really talking about it I'd generally advise you to consider some sort of mutual fund, the specific fund that would be appropriate depends again on your goal and how risk averse (or not) you are. But for just general longish term saving (5 year timeframe or more) take a look at some of the equity income funds. Look at their track record and always check out the fund manager and how long he's been there.” 7:51:31 AM 6/10/04 Jump to Page << prev
