I had $1037 in an account and after three months without any contributions it was $1187. I'm having a little trouble calculating the APR...any tips? If you take $1187 and divide by $1037 you get a multiplier of around 1.1446 making me think the interest rate is around 14% per quarter...but how do I determine the annual rate...it can't just be 14*4 can it? That makes the interest rate around 50% which to me seems way high. Such a simple question is driving me crazy! So 50 / 1,037 = 4.82% Thats a quarterly yield, so to express it as an APR you divide it by 4 (or 3/12) so, 4.82% x .25 = 1.2%. Thats a more realistic yield for a savings account. It works fine if I calculate it quarterly 1037 * 1.1446.... God I hate accounting! Do you need to be more exact than that?
