Experiment with different setups. I made several different types. Different amount of holes, sealing vs. no sealing, insulation, etc. I based all my tests on 2 cups of water. The stove that could boil 2 cups of water the fastest...won.

I was going to play around with making pepsi stoves today as well, but the supermarket was closed so I didn't have any soda cans available. I have a 16oz ss cup that I plan to use with it.

I was thinking about making them and putting them in Geocache's. I read that other people here do that...seems that they are popular. Might be a good way to advertize my website.

it prolly would Dub, if I found one that had a website on it, I'd take a look.

saw the pics that time lz, nice little tarp, I've got a 5x8 - it's a good windbreak/cooking shelter, but a little too small to sleep under and have it all the way down to the ground.

Plus if I put them in caches and my URL on them...they can come and learn what they are and how to use them.

Yes, why did it take me so long to figure this out? Post something backpacking related on a site where people only pretend to backpack and of course it doesn't get any responses. Post insulting comments and make fun of their foolishness and it brings in a huge response. It's like fishing. You throw out the bait and laugh as they take it.

Holy #&%!$ dude...they are freaking awesome! Eight of them weigh less than 6 of those standard hook stakes. They go into the ground a heck of a lot easier than hook stakes and they don't bend when you beat them with rocks. Then to top it off they all come with reflective nylon cord hooked through a loop at the top. So they light up when laying on the ground at night and you can attach things to the cords. The stakes themself are also red in color making them stand out when laying on the ground...no losing these things. The Y design keeps them from moving once they are in the ground--so much better than hook stakes--the nylon loop makes it easy to remove them but they do grip the ground hard. Did I mention they were unbendable?

If you are a serious backpacker, they are definately worth the $16 for 8 of them to be part of your gear collection. I don't know how I managed without them. Of all the gear I have...these are the ones I think would work for everybody.

Roam, do you want poles with shocks or without shocks? I'm partial to Leki brand with shocks. Any model in your range should be sufficient. I love the ones I have...lemme go see what kind they are.

Scorch, shhhsh it! ;-)

Roam, I have the Leki Ultralite Makula Titanium poles with Antishock.

Major difference between no shock/antishock is that the antishock models are supposed to reduce stress on your joints and bones by absorbing the shock from the ground. They do make a slight squeak on each shock.

Most people get the non-shock models to avoid the squeak. I've used both and prefer the anti-shock models.

I have a pair of Leki Sport Classics. They are your basic bare bone three-section polls. Nothing fancy, no shocks, but I like them. I figured I would get a cheep pair of trekking poles to see how I liked using them before I spent a lot of money on a pair. If I ever break them I'll replace them with something a little better.
