I made several different types. Different amount of holes, sealing vs. no sealing, insulation, etc. I based all my tests on 2 cups of water. The stove that could boil 2 cups of water the fastest...won.” 5:52:20 PM 4/11/04 “yeah, i've been messing with them all day, i'm lucky i drink a lot of pop, now I only have one empty can left... and scraps of cans spread all over my room..” 5:54:16 PM 4/11/04 “I was going to play around with making pepsi stoves today as well, but the supermarket was closed so I didn't have any soda cans available. I have a 16oz ss cup that I plan to use with it.” 5:55:17 PM 4/11/04 “I was thinking about making them and putting them in Geocache's. I read that other people here do that...seems that they are popular. Might be a good way to advertize my website.” 6:02:27 PM 4/11/04 “it prolly would Dub, if I found one that had a website on it, I'd take a look. saw the pics that time lz, nice little tarp, I've got a 5x8 - it's a good windbreak/cooking shelter, but a little too small to sleep under and have it all the way down to the ground.” 6:09:07 PM 4/11/04 “Plus if I put them in caches and my URL on them...they can come and learn what they are and how to use them.” 6:12:48 PM 4/11/04 “that's a cool idea” 6:22:35 PM 4/11/04 “just make it clear that they are there for the taking.” 6:31:10 PM 4/11/04 “Anything in a geocache is there for trade. Now I just need to get bored one day and make about 20 of the stoves.” 6:31:54 PM 4/11/04 “hi” 6:53:38 PM 4/11/04 “Gettin' close to 9,000.” 6:55:29 PM 4/11/04 “hello to you too, dear : P” 6:56:59 PM 4/11/04 “:D Just being a gear slut again...trying to decide what to buy next. $4K spent since April 02 and counting.” 7:01:41 PM 4/11/04 “If they built and REI in Ohio...I don't care how far it was, I'd commute and work there.” 7:03:50 PM 4/11/04 “The other board sucks! "Okay, I'm truly done with the other board. I posted my Sipsey trip report there and it got two responses. Those people are not backpackers. They don't even like to talk about backpacking." Dub 06:25:24 PM 03/25/04” 7:21:59 PM 4/11/04 Damn, that's good ham “It turned out really good. I gotta hand it to the peeps at Smithfield, they know what they're doing. My glaze worked out really good too. When your grandmother compliments you on your cooking, you know you've done well.” 7:23:22 PM 4/11/04 “i guess trolling IS more fun.than trip reports” 7:23:22 PM 4/11/04 “glad you didn't pay 80 bucks!” 7:24:12 PM 4/11/04 “hi Scorchy!” 7:34:56 PM 4/11/04 “i ate easter ritz crackers..... MMmmMMm” 7:40:40 PM 4/11/04 “i guess trolling IS more fun.than trip reports" helinka 07:23:22 PM 04/11/04 Yes, why did it take me so long to figure this out? Post something backpacking related on a site where people only pretend to backpack and of course it doesn't get any responses. Post insulting comments and make fun of their foolishness and it brings in a huge response. It's like fishing. You throw out the bait and laugh as they take it.” 7:41:32 PM 4/11/04 “10 MINUTES UNTIL MY SUGARRUSH WEARS OFF.” 7:43:34 PM 4/11/04 “hey, roam!” 7:51:30 PM 4/11/04 Question for Dub “I saw before that you had gotten some MSR groundhog stakes, have you had a chance to use them yet? If so how'd they work out?” 7:53:56 PM 4/11/04 “How was everyone's weekends?” 7:59:37 PM 4/11/04 “Read my trip report (Old Rag/Whiteoak Canyon) I got my first bagnight of the year.” 8:00:31 PM 4/11/04 “Hey, I'm in the market for a couple of matched treking poles, anybody got a favorite model, on the lower end of the price spectrum?” 8:18:13 PM 4/11/04 “I saw before that you had gotten some MSR groundhog stakes, have you had a chance to use them yet? If so how'd they work out?" bison Holy #&%!$ dude...they are freaking awesome! Eight of them weigh less than 6 of those standard hook stakes. They go into the ground a heck of a lot easier than hook stakes and they don't bend when you beat them with rocks. Then to top it off they all come with reflective nylon cord hooked through a loop at the top. So they light up when laying on the ground at night and you can attach things to the cords. The stakes themself are also red in color making them stand out when laying on the ground...no losing these things. The Y design keeps them from moving once they are in the ground--so much better than hook stakes--the nylon loop makes it easy to remove them but they do grip the ground hard. Did I mention they were unbendable? If you are a serious backpacker, they are definately worth the $16 for 8 of them to be part of your gear collection. I don't know how I managed without them. Of all the gear I have...these are the ones I think would work for everybody.” 8:32:53 PM 4/11/04 Thanks Dub “I'll pick some up at REI this week.” 8:35:40 PM 4/11/04 “Roam, do you want poles with shocks or without shocks? I'm partial to Leki brand with shocks. Any model in your range should be sufficient. I love the ones I have...lemme go see what kind they are.” 8:38:20 PM 4/11/04 “prolly with shocks, but that's not all that crucial to me. I've never used a pair, so I wouldn't know the difference.” 8:39:40 PM 4/11/04 “look at you people talking about gear like you like backpacking or something.” 8:40:46 PM 4/11/04 “roam i picked up a nice pair from REI once at the scratch and dent sale...i think they were about 125 but i got them for 60 only had a cut on the handle foam...i tape mine anyway...rei is supposed to be having a big sale sometime soon if not already over...well in ATL anyway...” 8:42:08 PM 4/11/04 “Oh I forgot, we're only supposed to talk politics and religion on TT, sorry.” 8:42:20 PM 4/11/04 “Scorch, shhhsh it! ;-) Roam, I have the Leki Ultralite Makula Titanium poles with Antishock. Major difference between no shock/antishock is that the antishock models are supposed to reduce stress on your joints and bones by absorbing the shock from the ground. They do make a slight squeak on each shock. Most people get the non-shock models to avoid the squeak. I've used both and prefer the anti-shock models.” 8:45:28 PM 4/11/04 “BTW I paid about $99 for mine. Got them at Galyans. Roommate got the same set for $85 on eBay.” 8:46:25 PM 4/11/04 “ohhh, good morning i didn't realize i was so tired...” 8:47:19 PM 4/11/04 “you can get the ones with just a little spring in them...that what mine are..just enough to give a little but not to move or squeak...i think i like the alot..although sometimes i dont like the bother but man when that one last hill is kicking your assit helps to be able to use your arms...” 8:47:54 PM 4/11/04 “i use a stick that i just find layin around in the weeds...... then i toss it back into the weeds when i'm done with it.... then i stand on one leg and cluck like a chicken...” 8:53:15 PM 4/11/04 “cluck cluck bubba strat” 8:56:58 PM 4/11/04 “If you don't get a pair before Sodsfest I'll let you borrow mine for a mile or two...but now that I'm used to them I can't stand not having them. Expect the same thing once you use them. Crazy things.” 9:04:03 PM 4/11/04 “Scorch, shhhsh it! ;-) NOPE!!! : P” 9:04:47 PM 4/11/04 “I have a pair of Leki Sport Classics. They are your basic bare bone three-section polls. Nothing fancy, no shocks, but I like them. I figured I would get a cheep pair of trekking poles to see how I liked using them before I spent a lot of money on a pair. If I ever break them I'll replace them with something a little better.” 9:09:17 PM 4/11/04 “DANGITTTTTTTT! ! ! ! ! ! ! #&%!$! #&%!$! PISS! #&%!$! sorry, broke my G string....” 9:12:06 PM 4/11/04 “sorry, broke my G string...." stratdewd 09:12:06 PM 04/11/04 ignore this user TMI” 9:15:30 PM 4/11/04 “uhhhh, yeah” 9:36:02 PM 4/11/04 “I'm not even gonna ask... anything going on tonight? somebody talk to me” 10:29:58 PM 4/11/04 “MY GUITAR, YOU PERVERTS! geesh..... i need to take all the strings off anyway, and work on the neck.....” 10:42:54 PM 4/11/04 “Futurama is on TV.” 10:43:01 PM 4/11/04 “i knew it was ur guitar before u even said it, but it's still going on the classic TT quotes thread :P” 10:49:50 PM 4/11/04 Jump to Page << prev
