Can't use a neti pot when you're completely congested. Found that one out the hard way. I've got a pretty high fever now, so I know it's the flu and not a cold. H1N1 is supposed to be like a head cold from hell, right? Bleh. Gimme my meds. I couldn't stay asleep in bed because today is the day neighbors have loud relatives coming in, are getting their lawns treated or mowed, have noisy repairmen parked out front...After I pick up Laurel I'm thinking of a hot toddy and some serious unconsciousness.

Okay, enough complaining. Sorry for the rant.

Maybe you need a trip to the dr if you have a fever!

Joy JOY ;-)

I found the first film of yellow pollen on my car this morning.

Hang in there treebait.

No wonder I got up this morning with a headache.

I've been up since 4 am (gave up on sleeping) and have been outside most of that time. The sun feels darn good today. The problem is that when I'm outside I'm sneezing like mad. Stupid pollen. Like a bad cold/flu/whatever isn't bad enough. Antihistamines help though.

Off to get my prescription for antibiotics filled. Nothing like fun with kidney infections. This one just feels like a bladder infection, thank goodness. Bloody urine scared the hell out of me this morning, but the doctor seemed rather nonplussed about it. I suppose that's a good thing. Sort of.

Thanks, Div.

Just picked up my medicine. Jeez, I have to take it with food and/or milk, and it will make me drowsy. This ought to be fun for the next week. Generic version of macrobid, or something like that.

If your doctor is nonplused, it means he's bewildered, which, I would think, is a bad thing. Not trying to be a knowitall.

Hope you feel better, TB!!

i wouldn't have thought that brats were good for someone with a weak stomach.

not familiar with the BRAT diet, but I'd recommend ice chips and tiny portions of bread. Small enough that the stomach doesn't know it's recieving food/liquid until it's absorbed. I'm no doctor or anything, but I've found that's worked for me with stomach ailments.

Really though, if you're on day 3 and she isn't showing improvement, it may be time to call a doc

If you have heard of it here in the USA Andrews liver salts its great for most stomach probs. I buy it at a local Brit store. Just mix with water and drink.

Brat diet, pepsi, is Bananas, Rice, Apples (applesauce) and toast.

I usually try gatorade, and some sort of ginger the first 24 to 36 hours. Then go to saltines and sips of water.

One thing I am trying to get my friend to try is to boil the "boil in bag" rice and then drain the water and sip it. Those are rice husks in the water.

i do the brat and gatoraid thing too, as well as hitting the pepto every hour or so...problem with the pepto is, it forces the green bile that you normally throw up, "down"

Laurel's caught a lovely cold, with lots of drainage. A friend in class offered to show her how to do snot rockets. I told her to keep kleenex on hand, because the first few times won't work well.

White rice isn't unhusked. Not only is it husked, the bran is polished off as well.

yep, white rice, much like bleached flour (yes, wonder bread) is pretty useless from a nutritional standpoint. and all that talk about 'enriched and fortified' is bogus. those chemicals they add to look good on teh label can't be processed by the human bodily very efficiently.

Thank you...I will remember in the future.

Ever hear of the Pharmacist who was out of cough medicine...so he gave the sick man a bottle of laxitive.

Ten minutes later his boss comes up screaming at him about what he did.

The Pharmacist replies (pointing to the man holding onto a street lamp pole)' Right now he is too scared to cough."

haha, that reminds me of a funny thing that happened to my dad...

he, like me, is prone to bad allergies and sinus infections. Amoxicillin doesn't do a thing for the infections anymore, so his doc put him on some super antibiotic for a sinus infection, warning him that it may cause some loosening and liquification effects elsewhere in his body as well. So, he took it, the sinus infection started going away, and the side effects mentioned didn't seem to manifest. A few days of this and all is well.

So he has this big important meeting at work one day - gets all dressed and ready to go, gets into his car, and as he's pulling out of the parking lot, suddenly has a sneezing fit and simultaneously craps himself dry. Needless to say, he took the day off to clean his car and self

~cough, hack~ SNEEZE!

I hate catching a cold. At least it waited until after the Smokies trip, and 2 weeks until the meeting/ party at our house.

I don't have much in the way of whiskey left, but my neighbor brought me a bottle of absinthe (the real thing) from Germany, and I don't think it will have quite the same effect. It may be like the time I was out on a bunch of prescription meds, and was mildly hallucinating for a couple of days. Maybe that's a good thing. :)

Um, I'm not even close to there yet. I'm sipping on an opalescent and damned bitter beverage that I think would be better with several shots of tonic water. It's a little glass, and I'm not sure I can finish it. Alcohol gives me a hell of a headache these days. I like the anise flavor, though.
