Frankly, Buck, you lost me there. I didn't take part in any gay or anti gay discussion. I must have missed that thread...

: "So you're saying that a New York city and Wyoming as a whole are equally likely to be hit by terrorist acts, or are you purposely trying to miss that point?" - Phaedrus

I missed this one, sorry! Uhh, no, that's not what I'm saying. If I thought NY and WY were equally likely to be hit by terrorists, then the EXACT SAME TOTAL AMOUNT OF $$ would be spent on each state. Since this isn't the case, NY is receiving many many many many meeeeeellions of dollars more than WY.

There would be more transfer of the disease in a populous area, one would think.

I think the only REAL justification for spending more per capita on less populous areas would be something like: We've completely foiled any chance they might have had for a bigger kill in a big city, and their only recourse is to go after smaller places.

Wyoming has more gas wells than trees.
Gas wells?
Lesseeeee... gas wells in VERY remote locations.
Can you say "eeezeee infrastructure targets"?

Please don't be blinded by your bias.

NYC can use the money I shelled out on food and drink and parking. At those prices, It seems I shoulda at least gotten a napkin...

Sorry, Treebeard, I guess since so many people around here say things like, "we've already discussed that before", and "go find that thread", that we're all supposed to know everything around here! :^D

Also, I'm a light-hearted kind of guy, I'm smiling as I'm typing, I don't take these discussions seriously. I doubt you do either, but I just wanted to make that clear! :^D

Really treebeard, you have ignored the fact that Al Qaeda would have bombed Joe Bob's Cafe and Dance Hall in East Bejesus, WV, if they could have found it. I mean for cryin out loud, it is the only cafe and dance hall in East Bejesus, WV. They don't have another.

Don't Joe Bob's patrons deserve the same protection from their Department of Homeland Security that the patrons of some Yuppy Bar in Soho get?

Oh yes, West Virginia did go for Bush. Did New York?

BTW -
I got stuck behind a school bus in WY - waaaay after dark. I wasn't able to pass it for a while. I assumed it was enroute to a far away extracurricular activity, ie, football game.

To my surprise, the flashers began to... er... flash. First yellow, then red. The bus stopped, and a kid got off. We were 40-50 miles from the nearest school.

WY is vast. It has a population of less a half mil, to be sure, but it's vast.

Ripe with minerals and fossil fuels, too. It would be a relatively easy target for terrorism... but we can't let that happen, now can we?

I'm completely lost here! Are you suggesting we aren't spending ANY money to protect NY, and we're leaving it wide open, while we're spending every available dollar to protect Chugwater, WY? ??? ??? We're talking about how much $$ it takes to protect a highly populated area vs. a lightly populated area. We are spending MUCH more money on the highly protected areas, but because one dollar can protect more people in a high density area, it costs less per capita to do so! I can't believe this is such a tough concept! Limpy, if you're out there, I'm sorry for being so repetitive here, but I'm totally lost! If you had to hire security guards to protect a lot containing 10,000 cars, or a lot containing 100 cars, obviously since all the 10,000 cars are bunched together it takes proportionally fewer guards (per capita) to protect those cars, even though there are still many many many more guards protecting the 10,000 car lot than the 100 car lot. Am I completely whacked in this reasoning?

Certainly, but we're all expecting another attack on NYC as well. And that might be the case, but if I was the terrorist mastermind I would be also looking at how I could hit them where they are least expecting it. Its an obvious strategy, and it doesnt have to be infrastructure and bang bang boom. Some kind of silent killer for the small town, bang bang for the big city. Makes sense to me. Seeing some small town get hit hard would freak this country out.

I got to stay away from these I hate Bush threads (there are lots of them too). A couple of more thing before I go. If disagreeing with Bush doesn’t equal hate as was said by what’s his name then why does disagreeing with gays equal hate as many of you have stated elsewhere. On the subject of this thread (and no I didn’t read all of every post), since when is the success of a program measure by how many dollars were spent? That is ridicules. The question is what you get for your dollars. That’s like saying the why to get the best sleeping bag is to buy the most expensive one you can find (sorry about sounding like something about backpacking there). Comparing dollars spent is easy but does not tell the whole story. There may or may not be a problem but the amount spent will not tell you that. Oh, I got a great bag I can sell to you. It’s the best, you know it is because it is $1200.

No one is advocating Bush not be allowed to marry. Gay marriage and civil liberties - that was the issue on the other thread.

If I advocated Bush be taken from office and denied his rights, solely on the basis of his sexual leanings, you might have a point.

I would venture to say that NYC pays out much more $$$ than WY when it comes to transporting students.

But I'd bet a week's pay (if I had a job - heh!) that WY pays out MUCH more for each student that relies on such services.

Make sense?

I can see the liberals response now if a town in Wyoming gets creamed by terrorists....

WHAT THE... DIDN'T BUSH REALIZE THAT TERRORISTS WOULD STRIKE WHERE WE LEAST EXPECTED IT, WHERE WE WERE MOST VULNERABLE? I HOLD BUSH PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE 8,000 INNOCENT LIVES THAT WERE LOST IN THIS PREVENTALBE ATTACK!

Honestly, that would be a typical response. Any terrorist attack is a lose-lose for Bush for those who oppose him.

Okay, you brought it up!

What rights? Rights according to you, or the law? Everyone fights for their "rights", but drawing the line legally means different things for different people. Do you think President Clinton and the overwhelming number of Congressmen and women are denying rights? Do unborn babies have rights? Do polygamists have marriage rights? Do incestual lovers have marriage rights? I guess we define and "accept" rights according to Phaedrus? Limpy, again, sorry for being repetitive, but I'm responding to very repetitive statements. I'm fed up with y'alls rhetoric.
Here, the greatest nation in the history of humanity is blindsided by the most unthinkable of terroristic acts, and INSTANTLY EVERY GODDDAMMED THING is the fault of George W. Bush.

History has dealt him a hand like that of no president before him.

Americana as we knew it was instantly a thing of the past.

EV-RY-THING changed on September 11, 2001.

We are pliding uncharted waters. It's foggy. It's stormy. Our captain is only a human being just like us.

WHAT THE FLYING FUKK WOULD YOU LOUD MOUTHED BEEYATCHES DO, GODDDAMMIT?!

You MOTHERFUKKKKERS make me sick with your constant bashing.

It doesn't matter one iota - not one.

Gojo? You frustrated man?

I hear ya, Ridge and Bush have one of the toughest jobs on the planet and I'm glad it's not me.

As far as WY vs. NY go - I bet the people in WY feel that they deserve an allocation of the US protection funds just as much as anyone else does. I also bet that most people in NY feel like the good folks out in WY deserve some too.

My point is that ALL AMERICANS in ALL CITIES should get something. Obviously some cities are more at risk than others and should be treated accordingly, but just because a place is remote or sparsely populated doesn't mean that the first responders in that area should be left without chemical suits or bio response training.

AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS MORE MONEY IS being spent on obvious targets. I guess you missed it.

If I'm not mistaken, we're talking "per capita" (not per capital", ha!) money spent. NY is getting tens of meeeeellions more than WY, and WY is not getting that much, but WY being a HUGE geographic state with less on half a million people (and NY having more than 19 million people), the per capita thing has got him all wadded up in a mess. Rest assured, NY is getting more money to protect obvious targets! How YOU doin'?

Look gojo, Im about as conservative as they come, but Im not blind. The biggest security issue in our corner of the country is the porous border and the fact that NOTHING GETS DONE ABOUT IT!!! THIS ISNT A NEW FRIGGIN PROBLEM!! So dont act like "what's poor Tom Ridge supposed to do". It has been about 2 years since DHLS has been formed and nothing has been done here. COME WATCH THE CONSTANT WAVES OF ANNONYMUS BORDER JUMPERS AND THEN TELL ME THAT I'M A PIECE OF SH*T FOR BEING PISSED ABOUT THE OBVIOUS LACK OF SECURITY IN MY TOWN. And they aint all stayin here either. Do you hear what the hell I'm telling ya?? Massive numbers of anonymus people infiltrate this country EVERY DAY and disappear...somewhere.
