“I just picked up the Tom Harrison Bishop Pass map. It covers where we are going, but just barely covers the Ionian Basin. Only the end of Chasm Lake is on the map, hindering any effort to navigate by going from the terrain to the map or map to terrain looking south. The combo of Mono Divide High Country and Kings Canyon High Country is more comprehensive.”

“My wife is on meds that she has to keep refrigerated, but they can be kept out for up to 7 days. You might want to check on that with your meds.

Glad the meds are working. My wife gets tired of the self-injections.”

“Which trailhead are we going to meet at on the 11th, or will we organize the shuttle at the group campground Navi was good enough to secure?”

“As far as peaks go, Black Giant - that's one I'd like to do (supposed to be not too difficult from Black Giant Pass). Then I'd like to try Mount Lamark on the way out.”

“I think meeting at the group campground, then orgainizing the shuttle is a good idea. I like the idea of doing both Black Giant and Mount Lamark. I think the day we pull into Darwin Canyon is a low milege day, and therefore doable.”

“My hat is off to all you speed demon, peak baggers. I will see when the time arrives! I didn't see any low mileage days on the itinerary!

We might want to organize the shuttle situation sooner than later. The only reason is that the South Lake trailhead has very limited parking and we would probably also want to minimize the cars at that location anyway. The North Lake parking lot is humongous. It deserves some noodling out ahead of time since most people would love to have there car there when we come off the trail.”

“Pepperdog is on my permit so I guess that somebody else can add in there as there are no names just no. of people which is five.”

“Yes, North Lake is the bigger parking lot. I'll leave my truck at either trailhead - it doesn't matter to me. I can squeeze four people, including myself in by using the jump seats to shuttle from one trailhead to the other.”

“wingding - Last summer we camped on the Island at South Lake. The overnight parking spots were at a real premium. Rangers were giving tickets to people who parked in the day-use only spots and left their cars overnight.”

“How many vehicles are we? .... probably two from Stocton and I'm guessing four or five from the south ???

If we get all of the gear and hikers unloaded at South Lake, and then take all of the vehicles to North Lake. We can probably then get all of the shuttle drivers into one vehicle that needs to come back and be left in the South Lake parking.

It's far easier to do this when we are all together on Sunday morning, before the hike. We will likely be spread out more at the end and be coming off the trail at slightly different times, which can mean a lot of sitting around with your gear waiting for a driver, if not done in advance.

If the vehicle left at South Lake belongs to someone more likely to be finished earlier, then we'd have the one stray vehicle back by the time everybody else is done.”

“I think you can count yourself in on my permit then. I know Matt was looking too but last I saw he was getting his own so if nobody says I already have them on that spot its yours. I have Windwalker, Keli, Ladyhiker, Gonzo and myself.
For shuttle I have a six seater pick up so we can keep that in mind. I'll show up at trailhead at South Lake about nine am(thats the plan that is)”

“Count me in on the car count. I have a permit reservation for July 12, but I am going to go to the ranger's station on Saturday morning and try to get a walk-in permit for Sunday. If there is an extra space on a permit somewhere, that would save me a trip to the ranger station.”

I really wish you were coming with us this year Pepper. But, I guess if it's just me, Hikerchic, Rockman and LadyHiker coming from Stockton on Saturday, we can all go in one vehicle.

Still looks like 2 vehicles from Stockton... Matt makes 3 coming from Reno... I think Phil and Navi are both driving up, so that's 5.... Wingding going solo makes 6.... beyond that I couldn't quite figure out who's riding with whom. Could be more like 8 vehicles”

“I'm driving from Sacramento on Saturday, but only returning to South Tahoe. I've got to pick up my crampons, down suit, jewmars, and rack of chocks for this trip. LOL Anyone intrested can drive with me.”

“Doh !! Sorry geologyguy I was forgetting that you were in the area too. That'll be easier than cramming all of the gear for four of us into one truck. I was jsut kind of picturing that in my mind :-)

“We'll drive straight to the group campsite and not stop by Stockton since it sounds like everyone has a seat in a car. Are the Stockton people going through Yosemite?”

“I'd like to.... never been before, unless it was a long time ago when I was just a pup. Still not sure how good of an idea that is on a Saturday in July though. I'll defer to the locals on that one ;-)”

“There aren't too many choices getting from the central valley (Stockton) over to the eastern Sierras. I think Tioga Road is the best choice. The views from are spectacular.”

“Yosemite is so awesome you soon forget about the tourists.
Ask Lady hiker to show you the good spots in the valley.”

“I'm definitely planning on coming back that way at least, and stopping in Stockton for the night on Sat 17. Want to hook up with some more of the local TTers for dinner.”

“As for the trip over, I guess with LadyHiker and I coming from the north and geologyguy already in Sac, then it's kind of 50/50 whether we head down to Stockton on the Friday night, or Stockton comes north to take the #50 east.... beats me which is best

Two questions:

1. Will there be decent fishing at any of our planned campsites?

2. Can we expect any significant stream crossings to worry about?

Regarding the South Lake trailhead parking, we may have to obtain and somehow guard two parking spots for shuttle vehicles. Like I said, they may be hard to come by on Sunday morning.”

“I'd say two shuttle vehicles is right Phil. I'm now counting 9 vehicles with only Wind Walker unacounted for, so possibly 10 drivers in all”

“I can head up to the South Lake trailhead on Saturday night to see if I can get into a backpacker's parking spot. I'm going to be sleeping in my truck on Saturday night anyway and haven't had a problem sleeping in my truck at the Bishop Pass Trailhead parking lot at South Lake before.”

“I'll be doing the drive solo through the Cajon Pass and up 395 on Saturday evening, so one vehicle for me.”

“One more post - over the 4th of July we are going into Humphreys Basin (Piute Pass trail) starting at North Lake. I'll let everyone know what conditions are like in that area when I come home.

I have one space left on my permit if anyone is interested in exploring Humphreys Basin over the 4th (3-day weekend).”

“I might be driving up there by myself. I am trying to get a hold of Tekdude to see if he wants to carpool, but so far we have not worked out any definite plans. So there will be either 1 or 2 more cars depending on what we decide.”

Yosemite would be awesome and go thru Tuolumne Meadows! I think that's the road to get to 395. Isn't that Tioga Road? Oh, how I love those meadows! Om and I had a great time when we were there two years ago.”

“Yo Hodge, I'm here!:) I just don't have nuttin' to add. I am gonna be scarce around here for the 11-12 days though. I'm going Alaska Friday morning so... anyway, I'm still going hiking in the Sierras with y'all. I'm on Steve's (geologyguy) permit. I'll probably drive solo to the campsite Navi reserved.
