Well Tea...

If you read the trip itinerary it says to meet up at 8:30 AM on saturday morning.

HOWEVER, I am trying to make plans to head up to my house in Millview on Friday night so peeps like you and me don't have to drive 3 plus hours on Saturday morning.

So Why wasn't I invited to your Halloween party???

Weather for Laporte:

Saturday 11/8
Windy and colder
High 38° F / Low 19° F

Sunday 11/9
Mostly sunny; cold
High 41° F / Low 25° F

Nice hiking weather, but Saturday night will be a chiller. The campfire should be quite popular.

Hey Scorchy - since this is your first backpacking trip, this would be a great time to ask any questions.

The weatherman on the local news tonight said there may be record cold Sunday morning. Sunny skies which will be nice. I was hoping to use my homemade tarp, but with the temps in the teens at night, I'll have to bring a tent unless I bring a winter bag.

Hey Rich, I was thinking of tarping and also using your alcohol stove. Not now, I'm bringing tent, winter bag and white gas. 19 will feel even colder since we're not acclimated to cold temps yet.

I agree, too cold for a tarp and alcohol stove. Accuweather says 35 miles per hour gusts Sat. and that's too windy for tarping to me. I'm looking forward to using my cold weather gear though. Maybe I can test my 20 degree bag I stuffed with 3 ounces of overfill 800 fill power down. It looks really beefed up with that modification.

I'm gonna tough it out and experience it myself... if I fail then I'll ask questions. I like the thrill of being unprepared.

Just kidding. Let me know any pointers? I don't know if my stove will work in that weather? It's isopropane

We can use a good freeze to get rid of the bugs. I went for a day hike this past Sunday around Promised Land and I think I spent half the time just pulling ticks off myself.

I went for a bicycle ride Sat. and got a flat tire. While I was fixing it I got eaten alive by black flies. That's the first time that happened to me in Nov. Crazy weather, but it was nice for riding.

Scorchie,
Remember our discussion of stoves. I use the same exact stove for weekend trips. I've used my stove down to 10* without any problems. We might have to make windblocks if it's really windy as predicted but the low temps shouldn't be a problem.

Generally, isobutane is sluggish at temps below freezing. Keeping the canister warm will improve performance. When you arrive at camp, keep it close to your body for a while to warm it up. At night consider keeping it in your sleeping bag. Another idea is to keep it stored in a big ole winter sock.

If the stove still won't fire up, look around for Bobo and Pennsy and commence begging.

The weather is holding according to the Almighty! one's forecast.

The rain looks to be out of the area tommorrow. Mostly sunny with no rain forecasted for the weekend (yeah), but be on the lookout for lots of trail-muck and temps in the mid-teens for Saturday nigh.

Cold, clear skies and a lunar eclipse on Saturday night sounds like some good times await! We should be able to find a nice viewing spot not far from camp along the Loyalsock creek to check out the eclipse, who's bringing the tripod?

! mmmMMMM, Sambuca....

Does anyone know where we will be camping Sat. night? Msilver will hike with us on Sat. for the day only. I needed to know because he will leave his car near Saturday's campsite so he can drive home from there. I will shuttle him to the park office Saturday morning so we need to know where to leave his car. Thanks.

Rich, we should be camping near Rock Run Rd, where the trail crosses the river via a metal bridge. This is also where we leave the LT to join the Link Trail and there is a parking area there. Know where I mean?
