Do Not Call Subverted?
Anyone heard this yet?

This is to all of you that signed up for the "do not call" law. This week I received a card in the mail that looked alright-- It aid "vote for your favorite cola - Pepsi or Coke- and receive a complimentary 12 pack" It didn't look suspicious--but for some reason I kept looking at it. THEN I FOUND IT !! At the bottom of the card there is a VERY small statement. It is SO small it is hard to read--but here is what it says---- "By completing
this form, you agree that sponsors and co-sponsors of this offer may
telephone you , even if your umber is found on a do not call registry or list " This REALLY upset me and I just wanted all my friends to be aware of this way to get around the "do not call" law !! just think how many people will send this in and their do not call registry will be NO GOOD !! The
company's name is MARKET SOLUTION. Please send this to all your friends that signed up for " do not call" . I think this is just one of what we will get in the future--so READ EVERYTHING before you SIGN AND SEND !! AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT!!!! PLEASE !!!

I haven't seen it but I have heard about it. Look for them to come up with many ingenious ways to "trick you" into passively granting them permission to call you.

I received the same kind of thing except it looked like a scratch lottery ticket. It was a hand of poker and you had to make the best hand possible. Of course I won, but had to call a specific phone number to claim my prize. I threw the card out, but I am sure this was the same kind of deal.

This is the last week for peace on your cell phone. Next week telemarketers are starting the cell phone calls. Call 888-382-1222 on your cell to register your cell number for the national do not call list.

Who is "subverted", and why am I not supposed to call him/her?

Yup, its a hoax. Your cell phone numbers are still safe, although it doesn't hurt to register them anyway.

It certainly doesn't hurt to put your cell numbers on the do not call list. Companies do use cell phone numbers when they get them in their data bases.

I'm really getting irritated, junk robo-callers are calling from a wide variety of cell numbers (I get the same credit card pitch repeatedly from different phone numbers all over the country) - often there isn't even a business name to report. Sometimes there is a long string of random letters and numbers for the caller name.

How to fight back?

"How to fight back?"

Don't answer the phone.

I went on the no-call list when I learned that cell. 'phones were now listed. I have had two calls and I informed them I was on the no-call list. I haven't had any problems since.

BTW, I don't have a 'land line'.

It's tough not to answer the phone when I have a home office and have work coming in - it also makes the junk calls more of a pain in the rear. Occasionally, I hit the button to talk to someone and tell them not to call - but it doesn't seem to do much good and I often don't want to waste the time.

"It's tough not to answer the phone when I have a home office and have work coming in - it also makes the junk calls more of a pain in the rear."

Just let it go to voice mail. Use the caller ID. Don't be one of Pavlov's Dogs.

Many people who are small business owners do this. I only answer if I recognize the number. If not, folks don't mind waiting an extra minute or two to talk to me (when I return their phone call).

this is just so wrong, why can companies get away with deceptions like this and not face hefty fines for doing so.
