Hicking in Missouri

“I am stationed at FT. Leonard Wood, Mo and I am trying to find some good trails around the area. any help would be appreciated.”

“It's so hard to have to get into hicking gear when in Missouri, then have to get back into hiking gear when crossing the state line. Can the Missouri legislature do anything about this?
BTW, Mutt, the Ozarks trail is a great trail. Have you ever hiked it?”

“Dunadan: Of course! It has some nice sections, but it gets too many people on it. I prefer to avoid the trail-sheep and strike off into the woods. You really get to see a lot more that way.”

“No, I do know when and where to go in Missouri, and that's why I avoid the Trail. The Trail is to be enjoyed, but it is mostly there for poseurs and tourists. Enthusiasts get out into the wilderness and leave the Trail to the trail-rats.

I also get a little bent out of shape when I go places and see the numbers of fire rings, and camp sites in places where they should not be due to "bushwacking".

As a side note, I am fond of saying that I haven't met anyone yet that I couldn't like.”
