Getting ready for college

“Yeah, that's where i've been - if anybody noticed that I was gone. I went up and visited vermillion college up in ely, on the edge of the bwca, looks like a good school. I registered for classes and found an apartment, still looking for a job and a roomate. Then i did some sightseeing and stuff with my grandparents on the noth shore, visited camp and a friend up there. Then i went down and visited all my friends, spent a few days there, did a 4-h camp thing - i'm always happy to see my friends again. So, that's my trip report, i was gone for 9 days, 1150 miles on the nova. I hope college is ready for me, 'cause here i come.”

“Just remember to bring a good beer bong and you'll be ready for college.”

“Just go to the local hardware store when you get there and ask for a two foot piece of heater hose and a funnel.

I am willing to bet the response will be "Don't you mean a beer bong kit?"”

“Ely Minnesota!!!! Been a long time since I was in Ely. Did plenty a laps around that there cross country ski trail. We also watched one of our ski jumpers from Cloquet lose a ski off the big jump, in mid-air. It was pretty funny watching him. He ALMOST made the landing too!!!”

“chili..funny you say it like that..my brother hit that age and him and his buddies went down to the hardware store, and got a big funnel, clear hose, hose clamp..go up the the counter..and the guy ask..do you guys just wanna buy a beer funnel?..and pulls out a pre-made one for way less than buying it peice by peice. The were so disillusioned..till they bought the beer..lol”

“Opie, when I started college, it unfolded just like that. We ordered up the hose, funnel and clamp and the guy goes back to a shelf and gets a paper bag and brings it back. The standard funnel kit. Pre packaged and ready to go.”

“Funnel/hose clamp! No no no! That's the wrong way. The best thing to use to stop and start the flow of beer is a valve. Just buy a PVC Pipe valve that fits your tubing. It will cost like $.50. And remember...the wider the hose you use the harder and faster the beer goes down. Start with 3/4 hose and work your way up to 2".”

“Yeah, that's right, they had seperate dorms or floors when I went to school. But it added an element of danger!”

“Oh, I've been out of school for a long time. But I understand that there are schools where they don't bother with checking the gender of randomly matched roommates.”

“Geeese...even MS has coed dorms now.....

“I've seen coed dorms by suites where girls have one room, guys have one room, and they all share a bathroom and living area. Never have I heard of a college where they randomly give a girl and guy the same room...that would be so cool...I'd go back to living in the dorms.”

“What do you mean SS? It's like backpacking, but living in a dorm. Mac and Cheese, Ramen, cheap beer; sounds like the last trip I went on.”

“that's what i need is a chick for a roomate - sounds like a good plan to me, where do i find one like that?”

“when i was assigned a room at UA my freshman year they told me i was in Tutweiller..and my roommates name was Amy....i would have pulled it off too..*grumbles*..thanks alot MOM!”

“Simer - dude, female roommates is KEY. I had two of them at different times during college. See the "You See, Woman Are Like Fruit" thread to get an idea of how it played out. Boyakasha!”

“Artex is right on the female roommate part. They are so much better to live with than guys. For one, they are clean. They keep the bathroom clean, they keep the kitchen clean, they get pissed at you for leaving crap all over the house and clean up after you (just say you're sorry and leave a rose or two on the counter occasionally with a thank you card). Second, if you get a good one, she'll like to cook. I had one who just loved cooking. I paid for half the food and when I got home I had a hot dinner on the table. At first she wasn't good since she was learning to cook, but after a couple months she could whip up some awesome meals. Third and most importantly...if you get a hot one...she's much more fun to see wearing underwear than a big hairy fat nerdy guy roommate. Damn I miss having a female roommate.

PS...roommates that are girlfriends can lead to disaster...my old roommate had all of his clothes burned when he and his live-in college g/f broke up. Another had his car keyed and his ass kicked...by her.”
