“we pulled my yak out a couple weeks ago to prepare for the season and it is now covered in three feet of snow. paddling will have to wait a little while longer.

nonconformist may be joining the tt kayaking club in the next couple weeks. his son, too.”

“Crazygurl, I told Sass about that same vest the other day. It looks like the ultimate womens PFD, lots of room for the chesticles.”

“Yeah, they gotta have those "chesticles" !”

“Birch, tell Sass I tried it on and it does make a HUGE difference (no pun intended) between the 'guy' PFD and that one. I was sold as soon as I put it on. There is also a lot of room to move your arms on the side which I felt constricted in the other.”

“I was able to go out both days this weekend to a small lake near my home Lake Julian.
Saturday went well...just kinda stayed around the dock area till I could figure out the paddling thing...then moved out a bit. The hubby went w/to supervise and make sure I didn't drown. The mishape came when I tried to get out and for some insane reason thought I could step from the kayak up to the dock!!! NOT!!! The kayak went N and I went South or is that E and ...regardless...I banged my arm on the dock, got my pants soaking wet and scared the hubby to death! All was well after I finished laughing.

Sunday I went by myself and pretty much covered the majority of the lake. I saw my first water snake (can they really get in the boat??) I finally made it back to the landing after paddling for what seemed like forever, into the wind...! I was so thankful that a kind lady helped me lift it up on the rack of my car,. I strapped it on and was pleased to head home. HOWEVER...I must now of strapped it on tight enough because about 2 miles from the lake I looked out the driver side door to see Daisy Blue waiving at me!!!! I pulled over and tighted the straps once again and drove slowly home!

Hopefully my next outings want be as eventfully but then again where is the fun!”

“I had a blast! I think I could really get used to it. I was shocked that I wasn't sore though...my forearms are a bit and my shoulders are 'tired' but my upper body wasn't. Maybe I'm not doing something right.

So..does anyone know..can snakes get in the boat??? Seriously!”

“Watch out for the snakes that drop from tree limbs.

“but unless you paddle right up to them they will move away from you...just stop and let them go where they want....MDS is right too...they can drape over low hanging branches, but unless you intend to paddle back into shallow/narrow streams, don't sweat it.”

“I finally got the Astral PFD I've been talking about! I bit the bullet and paid retail price..although I had $70 in gift cards from BDAY and Secretary Day..it didn't hurt so bad.

THE BEST THING...it is an XS/M...only thing in my life I've ever bought an XS in!!!”

“I had a baby snake drop from a tree. Luckily no mommas or poppas, but it got my adrenaline going. Shew! An otter swam next to me too and then ran along the bank. It was hilarious!

Been wanting to go to Jocassee too. Heard it can be pretty crowded tho?”

Smokey Girl..I haven't been to Jocassee yet...(haven't been much of any where actually) but it is on my list to do. It is busy with boat and jet ski traffice but a beautiful lake with lots of options.”

I think there is a campsite you can paddle to and hike to from the Foothills Trail on Jocassee. I've been wanting to do the Edisto River in SC for awhile. I do the French Broad from time to time. I have a sea kayak so I paddle places for canoeing mostly. Anything that involves camping so daytrips aren't something I seek. So much to do! I think I might head up to the BWCAW this first week in June, but kinda of skeptical cause of fires. Never been there before either.”

“I paddled there this past 26 - 29 April, Camped at devils Fork SP (Site 35) and launched from the beach below my campsite.

There were many more Kayaks there than on my home waters of the Tennessee River, the water was surprisingly clean, and the Winds equally strong, but that was okey dokey with me, I sailed the length of the Toxaway River without paddling a stroke, and with wind shifting, actually got about a mile on the trip back the same way...very pretty place.”

“a couple of years ago, I saw a strapping system/harness security type system for a kayak. I'm not talking about straps for securing a kayak to a car rack. This system harnessed around a kayak and then could be tied down...like to a tree or something. Anyone know what I'm talking about and where I can find something like that. I haven't had any luck with google. I want to take my kayaks to Indianapolis where I'm apartment living for awhile. I thought with such a security harness I could store the kayaks on the patio.”
