DRUDGE REPORT THU MAY 14, 2003 15:05:18 ET

STEPHANOPOULOS PULLS LOWEST RATING IN HISTORY OF ABC'S 'THIS WEEK'

Former White House adviser turned network host George Stephanopoulos pulled the lowest ratings in the history of ABC's THIS WEEK on Sunday, barely attracting 2 million viewers, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

The dramatic Stephanopoulos stumble has led to increased speculation in and out of ABC that news president David Westin may give the former Clinton intimate an on-air partner.

MORE

Stephanopoulos hit a 1.5 rating/5 share, the weakest number in the history of the program, research shows -- less than half the high of THIS WEEK with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts during 2002 [3.1 rating -- Feb. 3.]

Stephanopoulos experienced a soft bottom two weeks ago [1.6], after bumping [2.7] during the Iraq War on March 30.

"It's still early," a top ABC source tells the DRUDGE REPORT from New York. "Yes, clearly, George is still finding his footing. [But] no one is better positioned for the upcoming campaign and the Democrats. He's really giving it his all."

The Stephanopoulos slide has given NBC's Tim Russert top bragging rights -- week after week after week.

For Sunday, May 11, "Meet the Press with Tim Russert," attracted 4.308 million viewers, more total viewers than Stephanopoulos and CBS' "Face the Nation -- combined! FOX NEWS SUNDAY was fourth with its original airing at 1.496 million viewers.

The number two Sunday show last weekend ahead of Stephanopoulos and all the others except Meet: The Chris Matthews Show -- with 1.8 million households.

The guest on Matthews?

The man Stephanopoulos replaced: Sam Donaldson!

Yep. Tyrell is on Washington Journal every now and then... still #&%!$ing about Clinton, poor obsessed bastard, LOL

He really is Odd, tho'... the personification of a 'hissy fit'.

Wow, Drudge.

I consider Our Man Drudge as more of a gossip columnist. He has a bad habit of not confirming his stories with multiple sources.

Still... If CBS' This Week had it's worst ratings in years and still 'whupped the tar' out of FOX NEWS SUNDAY... that's a CLUE, LOL

I think he still has a commentary section, but it looks like most of the site is stuff like the AP and UPI wires, Reuters, etc. Most of the stories he links are from the mainstream. Well, most of the links I click on.

I haven't been there in a couple of years. Seems like he got into some trouble a while back and had to print some retractions to avoid being sued.

I try to catch C-SPAN in the morning... that way I can compare how the same story plays in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Times, The Dallas Morning News, The Sacramento Bee....

It always strikes me as funny how often the headlines and the copy seem to be from two separate stories, no matter what paper it happens to be.

The publisher of the local paper here is somewhere to the right of Pat Buchanon, LOL

I'll wager that Fox is available in WAY more than 1.4 milion households. It's just that not everyone buys that crock about being 'fair and balanced' LOL

For example, it's 'available' on my television but I deleted it.

About the WSJ... I find it to be more middle of the road than say the Washington Times, but the Times is an extreme case, <G>

Imagery
In regards to the DORK , Bush's manliness image and such from yesterday..........that was funny stuff , but come on now. Do republicans better represent or even understand working class people? Seems to me that both parties are lacking in that department.

Also, someone please clear up something. Did Bush serve in the Texas Air Guard or was it the Alabama AIr Guard? Did he show up for all his duties or was he awol? I've heard both versions.

Landing on that carrier was probably fun for him and I'm sure it made the troops feel good. Did past presidents behave similarly? Did Eisenhower strut like that?

Frodo has failed

no wonder they are ANTI-CHOICE
"Apart from their utter failure to educate the vast majority
of their students in large urban school systems, the biggest
outrage perpetrated by the National Education Association and
the American Federation of Teachers is to charge their members
exorbitant union dues, spend relatively nothing negotiating
labor contracts and then pour tens of millions of surplus dues
dollars into election campaigns of Democratic Party members.
Once elected, Democrats return the favor by pouring billions of
taxpayer dollars down the public school rathole. The victimized
urban school children never manage to learn much, but lots of the
public loot finds its way into the pockets of the teachers who
can't, or don't, teach. ... If the NEA doesn't cease and desist,
the EEOC let it be known that the matter would be pursued in court.
Too bad the NEA can't be taken to court for its failure to educate
millions of children." --Washington Times
