“stove, in answer to your question about elevation, day 3 will be the only extremely difficult day. im only in moderate shape, and im confident i can handle it. someone in good shape will have no problem. we will have a couple of days to acclimate before hitting real high elevation. drink lots and lots of water, and bring aspirin to combat altitude sickness, just in case. on day three, i plan on getting up VERY early, and allowing several hours for the hike, because we need to be at or below treeline by mid-afternoon.”
“We need to talk CMB into this trip!”
“i asked him, but i think all his vacation days are already set.”
“I am going to do a week long trip next year with the club in July to Rocky Mt National Park in 2004.
“the one thing that concerns me is thunderstorms. i hope we dont have one when we're up high.”
“I'm with you on that, bud.”
“where is this trip listed?”
“ummmm in the trips section. under rocky mountain national park high. are you sure youre an investigative reporter?
“its the last week of july, my dear. 7/31 - 8/1”
what's wrong with you???
“why not stay the saturday and go home on sunday?
It might VERY WELL BE POSSIBLE FOR ME TO ATTEND THIS TRIP!!!!!!!!
I was just told today, that I have to go to denver on business on the 28th and the meetings will conclude on the morning of the 31.
Could someone PLEASE pick my sorry a$$ up in Englewood, right off 25 near the 470 junction and please take me on this trip???? and then take me to the airport whenever the trip is over...PLEASE!!!!!!!”
“your dates are messed up. on this thread you show 7-31 thru 8-1, on the trips page, you show 7-28 thru 8-1. Which is correct, and why in gods name aren't you staying over a saturday...flights are so much cheaper when you stay over a saturday...anyway...is there anyone that can do the dates that I outlined...31, 1, 2, and on the 3rd to the airport.”
“stiky, i really dont want to change the dates because i want to have plenty of time to drive back to indiana when done, but there are some alternative options: depending on how soon you get to rmnp, how fast you hike, how late youre willing to be on trail, you could catch up to us on monday. or double your mileage on tuesday and catch up to us then. im really sorry, but changing the trip to tues-sat really makes me have to rush on saturday.”
“im sorry its 7/28 thru 8/1. and im driving. thats why it has to be this way. a day sooner or later, and the travel time factor becomes a major annoyance.”
“anyway, meeting-shmeeting. send your lackey to take notes.”
when you have a position like mine...
“you send only yourself. This is budgets...I'm not some flunky in a flunky position. didn';t know you were driving...you didn't specify your mode of travel. Have a great hike. Wish I could have done some of it with you, but you all will be coming down, just as I'm going up...anyway, I will try to put something together and hook up with someone that wants to do the weekend thing. Enjoy, I've been to RMNP 5 times now, and all 5 trips have been exciting...you are going at the bestest time, and I hope you get to see half of what I got to see on my july trip last year with Sonja...cause if that happens for you, then you are gonna see more than you ever have before...I was BLOWN away by what we discovered around every freakin corner...ifn your interested here are my July trip photos that I shot with Sonja...wildflowers were at their peak...should be for you also. there another rocky albums also. enjoy!!!”
“what, no lackey? tell you what, ill trade you two stooges and a henchman for for 3 of my lackeys. ill even throw in a goon as an extra bonus.
3 months is a long time. anything could happen between now and then. meeting could get postponed or cancelled, all of denver blows up, you never know.”
“when i get seven interested parties, im going to make this a private trip, so if youre interested, you might want to sign up”
“great writeup on the death valley trip, btw. i hope you can find a way to make this trip, because i would love to have someone with your enthusiasm on the trail with me.”
“I might be able to do that with you. I'm trying to hire a replacement for one of my managers that is leaving in mid-July. If that works out I could go.”
Becomeing a major annoyance
“2scoops - What day are you driving thru Denver? Could you be talked into stopping by the airport to pick me up, and return me to the airport at the end?
...and carry my pack, and supply my food, and .... just joking about this part, but I am looking for a way to the trailhead from the airport.”
“Looks like the Denver Airport is off I-70 before you get into Denver.”
actually...from the airport...
“you can take 470 north...it is a toll road...so what...it flies and has NO TRAFFIC...and throws you onto 25 WAYYYYYYYY north of Denver...thats the way to go!
Scoop...I will not probably see you...I will not be able to head to them hills till Thursday night. Sooo...Jgiles....theres your que...I have asked my friend from Philly to come too...if he does, then he picks up the car, comes to pick me up thurs nite, then away weeeeeee go. If he does decide to attend...then you will need to co ordinate your arrival time on Thurs with him, so then the 2 of you pick me up and away weeeeeeeee go...Stovestomper...if you can't make the 2 scoops trip, then your invited on the weekend deal. My goal is to hike and summit Mummy mtn. I have now seen this hump from all sides and far away...I am going to climb it and hump it myself and piss off its flanks. It will be a strenous trek...Stalker and I hiked the approach and saw how to do it on the easier angle...anyway...thats the basic idea...no time to do a major loop hike like 2S, but enough time to go hump a hump...Lizs, I know vaca time is a commodity for you, can you make this weekend gig...if you can, I'd be more than happy to share a hump with you. PLEASE come along and hump with me.
2S...thanks for the compliment onthe DV trip report...It was even better doing it. Hope your trip is just as memorable, not as screwey.”
“im going to try to be in denver saturday nite (preferably) or early sunday”
“its starting to look like i should have reserved group sites instead of individual sites. thats ok. i prefer smaller parties anyway. what im probably going to do is, once i get 10 yes or maybe's, ill make this a private trip and send everyone the password. then, about a month before the trip, ill email everyone and ask who is going and whos not, and set a deadline to respond, because if there are more than 7 or 8 ppl that want to go, some ppl wont be able to. ill give first priority to the ppl that have been signed up on the trips board the longest. i hope this seems fair to everyone.
or, should i just close it off after i get seven interested ppl so that no one feels left out?”
“Leave the trip open for a while.
Three of the posted names I don't know and I haven't seen any posts from them.
About half of the people will bail before the trip.”
“so wait til i get around 14 or 15 bites? i guess ill find out on the blood mt trip what to expect for shows and no-shows”
“stove, i can pick you up late saturday or early sunday. i can take you back, but probably not until saturday. i may or may not drive straight to denver friday. so plan on saturday.”
“If I make the trip I'll probably be flying into and out of Denver, arriving on the Saturday and leaving the Sunday. I'd like to get a couple of day hikes in either side of the 5-day trip. And I'll be renting a car, so if timing of flights works out I'd be happy to give someone a ride.
I've put in my vacation request at work and as soon as that's approved I will probably get my tickets. If I have my flight booked then they'll have to let me have the time off.”
“"If I have my flight booked then they'll have to let me have the time off."
so if i book a flight to leave this week and not come back for a year, do they have to give me the time off? paid? ill have to try that. im sure theyll go for it.
“Looking better for me being able to go. Sounds like I might have a good chance of getting a ride from the airport. Thanks guys. I also see where there are some shuttle services on the net.
2scoops - Sounds like you are going to do a "Death Drive" all the way.
stikmon - thanks for the trip offer, but I think I'll stick with 2scoops.
liz - Come on lady. I'll love to meet you.
aussie - Thanks, as this gets closer maybe we came fly in about the same times. Where you coming from? I'll be coming from MS.”
“To hump or to take a trip..... hmmmmmmmm???
Now you guys all know there's a mountain over near Paonia, CO with my name on it?? Literally (ok, so it's not "lizs")
It's a goal to "hump" that 12,000 footer. :-)
Will have to see what the summer holds. So I'll wait on signing up for any of this. (awwwwwwwww- pout!)”
“wouldnt a 12,000 footer be more correctly..... mounted?”
“"mount lizs" i like the sound of that
“StoveStomper - I'll be coming from Seattle. I had a quick look at flights and would probably be arriving in Denver between 10 and 11am on the Sat, leaving late morning on the Sun. Once I get my vac OK'd, I'll look more closely at flights and let you know the details.”
“Aussie, I may have to hook up with you. I have three sisters that live around Seattle and I've been wanting to hike up there, but all that I've done so far have been dayhikes.”
“Well it is called "Mount L....."
not lizs though. LOL!”
“i received in the mail this week confirmation of our reservations.”
“A hiking thread. I found a frickin hiking thread. Oh .... My .... God!”
“"Three of the posted names I don't know and I haven't seen any posts from them."
nrvale01 is cool, hes in the club with mike and i, weve seen aussie post. the only unknown now is stonedhiker. im not counting on him until i see him post. ive got someone else from the club who is interested, but has not put her name on the trip list.”
“alert the press!”
“when i pick up the permits, i have to give the license plate number of all the drivers. theres a campsite limit of 7, so if everyone drives, 7 is the limit. i know stove will probably be coming in with aussie, so maybe 8 can go. does anyone know how strictly they enforce campsite limits?”
“take the regs in RMNP very seriously...if you err on the side of the regs, then you won't loose any sleep while on the hike...but,,,RMNP rangers are not to mess around with...play it straight and do what they say. get the plates and no worries mon.”
“thanks for the advice, stik. if more than 7 ppl want to go, i guess somebody feelings are going to get hurt.”
sorry. i dont know diddly about html”
“so how do i do that, anyway?”
