Deuter Act lite 40+10 also a thermarest Zlite! Hopefully this will make me a much happier backpacker I thought you quit backpacking ;)” 3:04:20 PM 11/20/11 “yeah Ewker, Iknow...I guess I will stick with it a while longer;)~” 3:48:03 PM 11/20/11 “Nice gear, Sunni!!” 3:54:23 PM 11/20/11 “oh it is sweet:)” 6:34:22 PM 11/20/11 “This will be delivered to my house tomorrow: http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxynote/note/spec.html?type=find And yes, it is trail gear. GPS on a 5.3" screen, and a phone. ;-)” 4:58:08 PM 2/16/12 Worth every ounce “ last edited: 2/16/12 5:47:07 PM” 5:45:51 PM 2/16/12 “techntrek - I have been looking at the Samsung smart phones v. the Iphones. Can you tell me why you chose this one? I see that the battery is replacable, which would be good for backpacking.” 5:14:45 AM 2/17/12 “Yeah I looked it up and then tried to see if it was available on amazonwireless.com, but no luck.” 5:59:08 PM 2/17/12 “I got a pair of Ahnu Montara boots yesterday and these things are the best boots I've ever worn. For the first time, no break-in required, and I spent much of yesterday and today hiking with no issues at all. I also picked up a pair of TNF Chilkat II winter boots for $40.00. Gotta love clearance sales!” 7:18:12 PM 2/19/12 techntrek “I just got on amazonwireless.com and now is is available for $249.99. I may have to look at this more closely. What were your main reasons for this phone besides what you mentioned?” 6:42:50 PM 2/20/12 “Sorry, I've been offline all weekend - lots of yard work, and celebrating a milestone as of tomorrow. CD - My #1 priority was the screen size. My last phone had a 5" screen and it made web browsing and using an on-screen keyboard much easier. The Note has an even longer screen (16:9 aspect ratio) but is narrower so its easier to hold as a phone but you get more screen in the landscape orientation for browsing. The battery is replaceable, a big plus. I've already seen aftermarket batteries which are twice the size of the factory battery (comes with a new rear cover to accomodate the size). karo - other than screen size, it has a fast dual-core processor, 16 GB ram built-in, can use up to a 32 GB SD card, and it has a stylus. Which is a rarity for modern "capacitance" touch screens. Older-style touch screens could use anything including a twig but modern touch screens need special equipment to work with a special stylus. I sometimes took notes on-screen with my old phone and wanted to be able to still do that.” 10:59:57 AM 2/21/12 11:41:40 AM 2/21/12 “damn i should have looked at the Gallaxy a little closer before i got the Razr. I love my Razr but that 5.3" screen sure would be nice:)” 12:14:08 PM 2/21/12 “ ”7:01:04 PM 2/21/12 “Screen shot, right from the phone.” 7:02:21 PM 2/21/12 “way to screw up a thread...lol” 6:53:49 AM 2/22/12 just picked these up “ ![]() For spring and summer last edited: 2/25/12 11:23:58 AM” 11:18:22 AM 2/25/12 “Just got some aquatabs...hope they work...” 7:52:29 PM 2/25/12 MSR Windpro II stove “I used my new MSR windpro II stove for the first time this weekend. I used a Gigapower Snow Peak canister. I also had a Coleman fuel canister, but it would not work in 20 deg F temperatures. The Snow peak kicked a**. Little stove is light weight and very packable.” 5:15:47 AM 2/26/12 “are you able to invert the canister with the Windpro II ?” 11:15:24 AM 2/26/12 “Backslacker, that has been my everyday shoe for the last 5 years (4 pairs). Comfortable, lots of ventillation, lots of grip. Love it.” 5:50:57 PM 2/26/12 “Cool TNT, they felt broken in the first time I put them on. Can't wait to get out in them.” 4:00:38 AM 2/27/12 “HPM got some new gear, for his biking hobby. Picked up a '11 Specialized Allez road bike for clearance prices. Sweet.” 12:05:41 PM 2/27/12 “Finally got a GPS. Garmin Oregon 450. Going to try it out on a trip next week.” 6:42:48 AM 3/02/12 1:26:43 PM 3/02/12 “Ordered a NeoAr XLite at the local store. They got me a women's size regular instead of a men's. Didn't feel they kissed my ass appropriately, as much stuff as I buy in there (also weren't willing to stock maps of the local areas where I volunteer). So I said screw 'em and ordered one on line. Nobody has these things on sale, and very few places have them in stock. They are outrageously over-priced and in high demand. But it came in today and it is AWESOME! Can't wait to use it this weekend.” 7:54:05 PM 6/18/12 “My old thermorest finally got a hole in it. 8(” 8:10:06 PM 6/18/12 “Hmmm, 2.5 inches thick, not bad. But I can get that with a BA Air Core for 1/3 the cost. What is the advantage of the XLite?” 4:54:02 AM 6/19/12 “Weight - The XLite is 12 oz. My insulated Air Core is 24 oz. The cheaper uninsulated Air Core is 22 oz.” 5:26:06 AM 6/19/12 “Does it sound like you're sleeping on crinkly wrap?” 7:25:53 AM 6/19/12 “Yeah; inquiring minds want to know.” 8:38:46 AM 6/19/12 “I tried out the Xlite at REI and decided it was going to be too noisy for me to sleep. I toss and turn all night anyway, and I was concerned that I would not get any sleep. Plus, I would probably keep everyone else awake. But the pad is nice and light-weight!” 9:17:20 AM 6/19/12 “I ended up going to the ExPed after trying out the neo air and deciding there is no way I could sleep on that. The ExPed has some noise, but nowhere near as much as the NeoAir I tried.” 10:02:03 AM 6/19/12 “I noticed some crinkly noise taking it out of the box, but not laying on it, and I rolled around cuz I sleep on my side. I don't think it's as noisy as the original NeoAirs. If you think they aren't worth the money, I completely understand.” 11:13:29 AM 6/19/12 “I guess I would have to try one out at REI. I'm not a fan of what goes crinkly in the night.” 1:46:19 PM 6/19/12 “I have the pro lite 3, and want the Xlite so bad. So is it noisy?” 3:39:25 AM 6/20/12 “I'll give a full report after I sleep on it Sunday night.” 5:46:05 AM 6/20/12 “Slept on the new pad Sunday night. I did notice minor crinkly noise from near my feet when rolling over. But I wouldn't call it noisy. I'm happy with it.” 10:37:13 AM 6/26/12 “Cool.” 6:23:32 PM 6/27/12 “Sold, I'm getting one” 2:33:49 PM 7/01/12 Stoic Wraith Wind Shell “Less than 3 oz in XL with full length zipper and hood. Bought for half price.” 9:50:54 PM 7/02/12 “We have ordered 2 ea 4 Season(4 doors)cat Cut Cuben fiber tarps. It has a 10' 10" ridgeline and is 8.5 feet wide with pullouts on each side. Total weight 6.5 ounces (less guylines) Now the waiting begins ![]() [img]img]” 6:52:09 AM 7/03/12 “Used my dividend and picked up the platy gravity system. I was ready for an alternative to pumping as I get tired of that ritual. http://www.rei.com/product/813799/platypus-gravityworks-water-filter A little pricey, but only 11 ozs (same as a Hiker), will do 4 liters in 2.5 mins (according to Platy), you can use it as an in camp "faucet," and since I'm always traveling with a few (including my own brood), I imagine others will enjoy the benefit of no pumping/bulk filtering. I'll let everyone know how it works out after a trial run during a five-dayer through Emigrant next week...” 8:27:06 AM 7/03/12 “Nice filter. If I wasn't so sold on Aqua Mira I would try that. I use one of these "water buckets" in camp, although it wasn't nearly that expensive when I got one. http://www.moonbowgear.com/1trailgear/5Accesories/waterbags/waterbags.html” 9:32:44 AM 7/03/12 Jump to Page << prev
