“My buddy and I are going to Plattsburg to buy a kayak as soon as he gets back from school (he has a pick-up). I just got back from the Canadian Tire in the nearby city of Valleyfield where the same model (Pelican 10') goes for 399$ and I asked them to match Gander Mountain's price of 329$.

She called her manager and tried to pronounce 'Gander Mountain' (French, doncha know) and then she asked me if it was another Canadian Tire store. I informed her that Plattsburg was in the US. She informed the manager and he said no. She clearly thought I was insane.

They have a sign that says they'll match any competitor's price and I'm going to write a complaint. 80% of the Canadian population lives within 200 miles of the US border and our dollar is at par once again. Cross border shopping is the rage and car dealers and manufacturers have had to match US prices.

Anyhoo, it's wings night in Plattsburg and two-for-one beer and I'll save a buck a gallon of gas on my buddy's truck.

“i bought that REI ti teapot the other day on sale. it's the evernew gear rebranded REI (look at the bottom of the pot). really nice stuff. the teapot has a rounded bottom that works great with my alcohol stove and it has a very tight fitting lid with a pour spout. it's a nice setup...”

I have a Black Diamond Head Lamp. One of the IQ series. Looks really nice but I haven't gone anywhere dark to test it yet. I'll have to go to the basement sooner or later anyway.

My daughter's Skeeter-Beeter hammock arrived so we can check that out. It looks very promising.

I got a new All Terrain Hybrid Hammock to scope out. It can be used for a variety of things including a lean-to type tarp and other ground dwelling uses.

The fun is here... now it just needs to stop raining so I can play outdoors without getting my new gear wet before it's time.”
