“bought a tomtom one xl-s driving computer. those that know me know love driving with my gps... but this thing has traffic updates/etc and is easier to use in the car so it will help with work.

well what i found was that the maps on the thing are far more detailed than many of the park topos i have (forest roads, gravel/dirt roads/etc) and in fact more accurate than google maps. my lat/long waypoints were spot-on with the tomtom maps and likewise on with google sattelite images but the google road locations were less detailed and often in the wrong places (by a small amount i admit).

oh, it does come off the dash and can be used handheld. this would be handy for documenting trail head parking/etc like i do today for my gps. i already have all my parking lots for favorite climbing crags at rrg plugged into it... very nice!”

“For sure orienteering is not taken as serioiusly as it prolly should be. Still most ppl stick to well marked trails and even a GPS is easily replaced by a little thinking and a simple map.”

“Got a new fridge and stove and will get a new (brand new, that is) freezer next Thursday. These are the first large, new appliances since the divorce fifteen years ago. Things are looking up from poverty and emergency repairs into improvement.

BUT I used some of the insurance money to put Dynafit bindings on my G3 skis. I put the Silvretta 500's on the white, Canadian army skis I scored at Cascade near Lake Placid when the boneheads and I were there.

Jury's still out on the Dynafit's, but I won't be able to test them for another ten days as the knee heals.

I wanted Euro sexy, but they look fragile and more complicated than the Silvretta's.

I'll post a review soon.

“LOL! They are $1.89 at Walmart. No the knife side is incredibly dull and useless IMHO. I hope you like yours better than I liked mine Divinity. One of the downers is that by using the spoon you are holding the fork with your dirty fingers, and if you need to use both ends during the same meal you not only get food on your hands, but your hands get germs into your food thus increasing the risks of giardia etc. I think I'll stick to my taco bell sporks for now. Just some things to be aware of Div, not trying to rain on your parade. :)”

“It means that no only is there no risk of the knife side of the fork cutting your lips, there is also no risk of it cutting your food! LOL!”

“I've had the light my fire spork for a year. The knife is good for cutting ramen..or scraping around in a foil tuna pack to get the tuna out of the corners. Can't say I've ever tried to use the fork. But I've worked the spoon enough thats for sure.”

I have an internal frame pack now. A gregory G pack. It has got more straps and buckles than I have ever seen before. It took me about half an hour to try and figure out what buckle goes where and why. It should fit although I am at the end of it's torso length. But that's ok. It is a long way from my Kelty design external frame. Looking forward to getting it out to play. Thanks to you know who you are. :?)”
