Am I the only guy here who drinks Buffalo Trace? Haven't seen it since I moved to CA.

I'm a little afraid of trying the Bookers since I don't like Jim Beam, but if Bulleit is cheap I'll have to try it.

I found Buffalo Trace too sweet. It tasted like a hopped up Jim Beam.

i don't drink it that often... sip a little in the evening once in a while. so i don't mind if it's expensive as long as it's really gratifying.

I'm not much into Bourbon; I've been more into Rum the last few years (along with an occasional Cognac), but a friend turned me on to a glass of Rip Van Winkle about a couple years ago and it was Very Fine ---- I've kept my eyes peeled for it ever since.

I believe what I had was the 10-year-old, 90°.   They go up from there:   12, 15, 20 and 23 years, ranging from 90° to 107°.

uh-oh.   Here comes Carrie Nation.....

Blanton's is just fantastic.

Knob Creek is a very good Bourbon (and it's 50% alcohol, where as most are 40%)

Y'all ever try Prichard's rum? Distilled right here in Tennessee. It's been aged the same way as Bourbon. Bourbon lovers need to try it.

Hey WK there's a place in Indy that sells Prichards...you could always stop there on your way to the Deam! :)

Now I think I'm gonna follow chili's lead and take a shot off the old Bulliet bottle

I like Rye Whiskey and last night I had a shot while I was in Knoxville. I just tipped the bottle on the Bulleit and my first thought was "hmm, this reminds me of the Rye".

Then I went to their website and walla...I just learned something...

"Bulleit Bourbon is produced with a high rye content and proprietary grains and yeasts. Rare among bourbon producers, Bulleit Bourbon has its own Grain Division, which acquires distiller's grade grains grown to Bulleit's specification. The high level of rye content creates the dry, clean flavor. In true bourbon fashion, only limestone-filtered water is used."

No wonder I immediately liked Bulleit Bourbon.

I always heard that Prohibition killed the Rye Whiskey market. It just never recovered to what it had been.

Also..... with all the Lincoln programming today I learned that his boyhood home was known as "Knob Creek" for the stream there.

Coinzadenza?

The Prichard's distillery is in Kelso, TN, which is on the way to my aunt's property on the Elk up there. Passed by it many times, but never stopped to go in.

It looks like an old school building though.

At all costs, avoid Buffalo Trace! No offense toejam, to each thier own.
Three or four times a year a bunch of us get together on my buddy's hunting property for skeet shooting and ATVing by day and camping and drinking by night. Last time I brought some Buffalo Trace instead of the usual Beam Black. Five out of six guys tossed cookies after a shot or two before everybody else wised up. 3/4 of the fifth went home with our hard-core alchy friend.
It cost about the same as Woodford Reserve so I figured it would be worth a try. Wrong!

That's hard for me to imagine, walkncrow. Good story though - wish I'd been there.

I've taken some pretty cheap stuff backpacking cuz it came in the packable plastic fifth. Old Crow is a little syruppy, but I don't mind. Evan Williams tastes more like a real bourbon. The only time I've gotten stupid on a backpacking trip was drinking Black Velvet cheap Canadian whiskey.

I admit we had a very physical day and several beers with 'dinner' before the bourbon came out...
But I'm talking about boys born and breed in KY, drinking the barrel booze for 20ish years now. A gang of Briars and no takers for a shot of bourbon. It's just what happened.
BTW; 'Briars' is what folks from neighboring States call Kentuckians.

http://www.epinions.com/review/pr-Bulleit_Bourbon/content_197027729028

Like many liquors, there is much legend and little fact available when researching Bulleit Bourbon. The website mentions Augustus Bulleit (pronounced “bullet”) who first began making whiskey in 1830. Bulleit’s whiskey was popular in the Western expansion and went west in many a covered wagon. By 1860 Bulleit died and his whiskey became only a memory. In 1987, descendent Tom Bulleit revived the ancestral business and began making Bourbon under the family name once again. Since 1997, Bulleit Bourbon has been a product of Seagrams.

Their 12 year old basically won the prize as best whiskey in the world from the International Wine and Spirit Competition in '98. The same year the Beverage Testing Institute gave it a score of 99 out of 100 which I don't think had ever been given before.

Yeah, good stuff.
