I know how you feel! After game 2 vs the halos, I passed out drunk in my buddies front yard.

This is not the match up I wanted to see. This is going to be a pitching series. Both staffs are awesome.

Go Go White Sox!!!!

Congrats ChuckD. The Astros built a champion. The Phutiles built a contender. The two are not the same.

I knew they would win last night after I heard about the players talking about seeing Pujols' home run from the plane. They were loose.

May have already been mentioned (I am not going to read through the thread), but there are very few rooms to be gotten in Houston for baseball visitors...50,000 rooms are already booked for the International Quilters Convention.

Interesting that Tim McCarver had just finished saying that Brad Lidge had forgotten giving up the homer to Albert Pujols when Scott Podsednik went Downtown!

Next game should be a pitcher's duel. Garland vs. Oswalt

So, Geo, how many days until pitchers and catchers report?

The questions in Philadelphia are how many days until we get a general manager, and whether that person will do whatever it takes to get to the World Series. I'm not sure it matters when pitchers and catchers report if we get same-ol same-ol.

I guess we'll have to wait another 44 years to go to the Big Show again.

If anyone is in St.Louis would you go by Busch Stadium before they tear it down and get the Astro's bats and ship them to Houston.
ChuckD

Why should we? You still haven't shipped the Phillies bats back from Houston.

Okay, okay, for those who have baseball teams, it is (based on the Phillies reporting date of Feb. 16):

112 days till pitchers and catchers report

Set your calendars.

It\'s official; Phils suck more than your team!
Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- The losingest franchise in pro sports will have a proven winner in charge.

Pat Gillick will become the Philadelphia Phillies' new general manager, replacing Ed Wade, fired after failing to get the team into the playoffs during eight years on the job. Gillick's impressive resume includes two World Series championships and nine playoff appearances.

Gillick was to be introduced at a noon news conference, the team said in a statement Wednesday morning.

The Phillies have lost more games (8,831) than any U.S. pro team and haven't been to the playoffs since 1993, when they lost the World Series to Gillick's Toronto Blue Jays.

I should have known
In his press conference last night, Gillick sounded like Ed Wade Lite. More of the same (groan). In a ComCast SportsNet poll, his approval rating was 48 percent. Oh well, at least he's doing better than Bumbleya. Of course, pitchers and catchers don't report for another 105 days, so he's got nowhere to go but down.

Not for the Phillies. He already filed for free agency and indicated the only way he would return would be if he was the closer. Guess what? He's not going to be the closer.

Chipper Jones has agreed to redo his contract, giving up $6 milion next season to help the Braves improve their cash flow.

First time I've heard of a ballplayer giving up money. Even if he can afford it and is still making brazillions, it's nice.

Okay, memo to self: stop chanting "Lar-ry" when Chipper comes to bat.

I hope his alpacas die, his wife leaves him, his pickup falls apart, his dog leaves him, his arm falls off, the Mets finish last again, his ERA goes to 10.60, he blows all his saves, and TO moves in next door.

But I'm not bitter. The Mutts have not bought a pennant recently. They seem to be where old ballplayers go to get rich before they retire.

Phils land Gordon to replace Wagner

By PAUL HAGEN
hagenp@phillynews.com

The Phillies didn't waste much time mourning the loss of Billy Wagner.

A team spokesman confirmed late last night that righthander Tom "Flash" Gordon has agreed to become the team's new closer. After he passes a physical, he'll reportedly get a 3-year deal worth $18 million.

Gordon, 38, has spent the last two seasons with the Yankees as Mariano Rivera's setup reliever. Last season he appeared in 79 games, had a 2.57 earned run average and held opponents to a .203 batting average.
