Trader Jack was even more distressed. Now, a word about the Marlins fans. The game was a see-saw affair, won in the 10th inning. The Marlins started to walk off the field with their heads down. The fans gathered around the dugout and cheered them as they walked off. The players looked up, tipped their caps, and tossed balls to the kids. Now that is what baseball is all about!!!” 11:05:34 AM 9/24/04 “so, who else is going to watch the game tonight? go red sox! just leave me alone if the yanks win, okay? not that they will. but you know.. if they don't, just leave me alone, okay?” 4:57:58 PM 9/24/04 my prediction “it will be the Cardinals this year against the Athletics. Larussa's current team against Larussa's old team.” 5:10:00 PM 9/24/04 “Nobody seems to want to win the AL West this year - all of the teams' current streaks seem to be "Lost 3" "Lost 5" etc.” 5:14:40 PM 9/24/04 “I think that would be an interesting Series though.” 5:16:07 PM 9/24/04 “The big 3 suck right now. They're gonna have to get their acts together or they won't go very far....” 5:18:53 PM 9/24/04 “More like the Cruds against the Yank-mes!” 5:23:05 PM 9/24/04 “aaaw, c'mon! don't call us the cruds. we're good. here, i'll prove it. here, take this ball and bat. now hit a groundball and watch me catch it.” 5:26:48 PM 9/24/04 “No no Billy Boy, you played with the Dead Sox, not the Cruds. Okay, a little infield work. Here we go. First base ... bounce, bouncy, bouncy bounce bounce bounce Dang, right on through again. You haven't lost a step Buck!” 5:30:21 PM 9/24/04 “No fair, I wasn't ready yet!” 5:58:17 PM 9/24/04 “Okay, I'll give you another chance. bounce, bouncy, bouncy bounce bounce bounce Ya still got it Bucky. You da man!” 6:01:48 PM 9/24/04 “More like the Cruds against the Yank-mes!" Geobeet lol Geo, the Cardinals deserve a world series. They haven't been there since St. Louis was the Land of Oz.” 6:02:49 PM 9/24/04 “I hated Ozzie, until he went into the Hall of Fame. I have noticed that all the players I hated in years gone by are in the Hall of Fame. I wonder if there's anything to that.” 6:04:36 PM 9/24/04 “My favorite Cruds World Series was 1968, against the Tiggers. Now that was a great series - Gibson, Lolich, ... man, it couldn't get better than that!” 6:06:19 PM 9/24/04 “Ozzie was a great ball player. I thought he was good hitter. Pitchers didn't like pitching against him, he rarely struck out and was always good in a clutch. When he got on base he was always good for a steal. He used to run circles around the Phils.” 6:06:37 PM 9/24/04 “yeah and 1967 against the Red Sox. Did you like 1964 Geo? I think the Phils were in 1st place until 10 games before the end of the season. I think that is why a lot Philly phans have disliked the Cardinals for so long.” 6:08:16 PM 9/24/04 “I was not fond of the Cruds even before 1964. You see, there was this guy named Stan Musial, and I hated him with a passion. I can still see him in his crouch at home plate in Shibe Park, Robin Roberts trying to nibble the corners without any success. I think he hit .809 against the Phillies over his career. He would have been a bum without the Fightins. It took a long time to learn to like Stan the Man, even after his plaque went up in Cooperstown and he began entertaining people with his harmonica instead of his bat. I came back from the Philippines in late August 1964, expecting to see a World Series in Philly. I went out to a game just after the collapse began, not realizing I was watching a team in its death throes. All because Chico Ruiz stole home. There was one bit of sweet revenge from 1964 though. The Yank-mes hired Johnny Keane away from the Cruds after the World Series. HaHa!” 11:05:23 AM 9/25/04 “Grand slam in the 9th!! Giants 9, Bums 5! We're still alive!” 9:44:41 PM 9/25/04 Rojah, the Traitor.... “Has anyone noticed how the retired Rojer Clemens has been locking in on yet another Cy Young? I just checked his stats. In the NL, he is 18-4 with a 2.89 ERA and 210 strike outs. Next up to him is R. Oswalt, 18-10 with 3.59 ERA and 194 strike outs. Followed by C. Pavano, 17-8 with a 3.05 ERa and 136 strike outs. I guess retirement suits him well.” 5:39:31 AM 9/27/04 “Speaking of baseball: The Red Sox KILLED the Yankees to take 2 out of 3 games in their series. Mohahahahahahah!” 5:48:53 AM 9/27/04 “OK, so the Gigantes won last night - no big surprise, with Schmidt pitching. But who woulda thunk that the Cubbies would lose with Maddux pitching?! So now we're tied for the wild card spot. Meanwhile in LA, the Pebbles gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th to hand the Bums a victory. In other news, SF "closer" Dustin Hermanson was suspended for 3 games for hitting Jeff Kent with a pitch after about 14 of the Giants batters were hit by Astros pitchers in the previous 2 games. Usually in these cases they let the guy serve his suspension the following season. The A's apparently have something better to do next week, as they've been doing their darndest to lose first place. They're tied now....” 2:47:56 PM 9/29/04 “I woulda thought you'd get a bonus for hitting Kent....” 2:48:45 PM 9/29/04 “Maddux, while still better than the average MLB pitcher, is just about spent. I don't see him pitching next year. He's earned his retirement. The Cubs have an annoying habit of not beating teams they should be able to thrash easily.” 2:50:47 PM 9/29/04 “Probably right about Maddux, although he has won 15 games this year. Looking ahead, the Giants have 2 more against the Padres and 3 against the Bums, all on the road. The Cubs have 2 more against Cincinnati, then finish with 3 against the Braves. The 'stros have two more against St. Louis, then finish against that powerhouse, Colorado. It's all so confusing, but basically it looks like the Giants are toast.” 3:08:35 PM 9/29/04 “Giants will win them all! Do not attempt to leave the cult now, Bowler. We will hunt you down and make you pay obeisance.” 3:10:46 PM 9/29/04 “My brother and I came to a similar conclusion a few days ago, only reasoning that unless the Cubs completely fall apart, they've got the WC berth wrapped up, the reasoning being that since the Giants and Dodgers have so many more games together that its unlikely that either of them would finish with a better record than the Cubs if they don't win their division. But I'm not sure how well the Cubs will do against Atlanta, and Houston seems to be pulling back into the fray. No one ever said it would be boring.” 3:13:23 PM 9/29/04 “Well, Houston's toughest opponent is St. Louis, and Chicago's is Atlanta. Both of those teams have already clinched, so they're just kickin' back and letting their rookies play. On the other hand, LA knows they could still lose it at this point, so have to play at 100%. BTW, Cubs/Reds tied 1-1 in the 7th....” 3:20:18 PM 9/29/04 “Bases loaded, one out for the Reds!” 3:22:55 PM 9/29/04 “Arg. Why can't the Cubs just beat the Reds like a drum, as they should?” 3:23:40 PM 9/29/04 “Oops, strikeout. Now 2 down....” 3:24:20 PM 9/29/04 “I'm watching the game now on ESPN...” 3:28:08 PM 9/29/04 “Dangit! Called third strike!” 3:28:36 PM 9/29/04 “heh heh heh” 3:31:31 PM 9/29/04 “Macias single!” 3:32:09 PM 9/29/04 “Bases loaded, no outs for the Cubs!” 3:39:30 PM 9/29/04 “Jerks!” 3:43:17 PM 9/29/04 “Got lucky with the DP - only one run....” 3:44:17 PM 9/29/04 “Looks like the Reds' pitching is spent.” 3:45:39 PM 9/29/04 “Wow, so much for the Reds' eighth...” 3:49:31 PM 9/29/04 “Woo-hoo, tied it in the top of the 9th!” 4:13:50 PM 9/29/04 “<groan>” 4:14:21 PM 9/29/04 “Allright, extra innings!” 4:15:22 PM 9/29/04 “We need a real closer so bad.” 4:16:13 PM 9/29/04 “Whew! Van Poppel walked Nomahhhhh, but then got the next 3 batters to send it to the 11th...” 4:37:28 PM 9/29/04 “Wow! I just checked the standings. The NL wildcard race is cloooooose!!! Glad the BoSox guaranteed their birth over in the AL though. Also glad to see the Yanks down 3-1 as of this post.” 4:40:30 PM 9/29/04 “Ya wanna know what drives me nuts? In the NL, we've got two races going on, and four teams involved in them. I turn on the damn TV last night, and the only baseball game on is Atlanta-NY, and neither of those teams is involved. WTF?” 4:46:29 PM 9/29/04 Jump to Page << prev
