Really . . .its no trouble.” 1:18:37 PM 12/31/03 “Holy crap, aero, that's awesome!! Not sure what my year end total is.. I haven't been keeping track. It'd be a good time to start now though. By the way, running in the heat sucks... at least for me, personally. It was 78 degrees out, and I felt sapped. I run much better in cold weather. :-)” 1:56:19 PM 12/31/03 “I've got a cold one coming up in a couple hours. I think it's going to be a balmy 20 degrees... Yesterday my run was in a -3 windchill. I'm ready for some 70's again!” 1:59:40 PM 12/31/03 Aero “Let's switch homes and make a reality show out of it!” 2:01:56 PM 12/31/03 “I'm in! You can have my job, too! It's easy; just show up and jabber on TT all day!” 2:07:45 PM 12/31/03 “Then aero would get to pet porcupines!” 2:08:50 PM 12/31/03 “Hey anal-retentive runners. I just finished updating my Excel-based running log for 2004. If you want one, say so, and I'll email it to you. The file is 729kb - I can zip it up for you if you need me to.” 12:19:39 PM 1/08/04 “Bowlderman, I am sitting here chuckling as I read your post. I have and Excel-based training log too (for running, weights, cycling, paddling and misc...) too funny! Though I swear by a training log to gauge progress. As a side note, I picked up my heartrate monitor yesterday. I got a Polar A5. Its kinda confusing at first but I like it. It has all kinds of neat features, hopeflly i will see some imprvement in speed when I start training with it.” 5:20:41 AM 1/09/04 “Hey Bowlderman, could you send me one? artex_ny@yahoo.com Thanks! BTW, after today, I will have ran 31 miles for the week, and have kayaked another 18 miles. That's a new PR.” 5:29:03 AM 1/09/04 “Great Job All!!! I had an appointment with personal trainer Kevin yesterday at the gym. He showed me around the weight room so I can get back to augmenting my running with strength training. Bowlderman: I'd like to take a peek. As stated on my profile, the e-mail is dhutchin@kmart.com. Birch: 2 questions 1. what kind of treadmill do you have and do you like it? (this -5 #&%!$ is killing me) 2. Let me know when you want to get together and set our heart rate monitors. Oh, I guess that was three questions. Ooooops.” 7:27:57 AM 1/09/04 “Artex and dhutch1, YOU HAVE MAIL!!” 10:47:15 AM 1/09/04 “Ran my 6.5 Hills of Severe Pain run after work last night (my "Hills of Death" run is 8 miles long and goes through a cemetery). Did remarkably well - about 48 minutes, which includes 2 1-minute walk breaks in the middle. Hope to get in some decent running this weekend and maybe start hitting the track with my 'mates next week. Won't be doing the 10-mile race on Sunday, though (site of probably one of my best race performances ever a few years back).” 10:50:15 AM 1/09/04 “Thanks Bowlderman! You rock. I'll check it out when I get home.” 11:08:37 AM 1/09/04 “Actually, just checked it out briefly here at work. Very ingenious, and nicely laid out. Thanks a bunch!” 11:21:42 AM 1/09/04 “Thanks - I have the columns and rows sized for the size window I use, so you may need to resize things a bit if you decide to use it....” 11:25:33 AM 1/09/04 “Yeah, that's the cool thing, it's easy to stretch what you want. Thanks again, I'll be putting it to good use.” 11:27:34 AM 1/09/04 “DHutch, I have a nordictrac apex 4001c. I bought it from sears 2 years ago for $1700 and love it!!” 6:41:39 PM 1/09/04 Longest... Run... Ever “I just got done running 12 miles non-top!! That's a new PR. I took it relatively easy, averaging about an 8.5 minute mile for the first 8 miles.. then I got tired and probably averaged 9 to 9.5 minutes miles for the last four. My ass is totally kicked right now, which of course is a good thing. Boyakasha!!!!!!” 2:33:53 PM 1/16/04 “Awesome job, Artex! ...oh and Boyakasha back at ya!!! :)” 4:27:20 PM 1/16/04 “Excellent, dude! It's great when you can get to a point where a 12, 14, 16-miler is no big deal (I've been in that kind of shape a half dozen or so times in 25 years of running - aero's like that all the time!). I'm taking off a bit early today so I can get in my "Hills of Death" run, the one that has the hills, distance (about 7-8 miles), AND actually goes through a cemetery....” 5:04:47 PM 1/16/04 “Thanks guys. BowlderMan, you're right.. aero is a machine. That guy is to running as ninjas are to swords. Enjoy that Hills of Death.. and don't take those hills for granted! My Bridge of Death route has that hill on it, but it's still not enough. Florida be flatter than a 5-day old Pepsi.” 5:20:37 PM 1/16/04 “where is Fritz?? He didn't post for a while or did I miss his posts?? Hey Fritz!! Hope you're okay!” 6:22:05 PM 1/16/04 “Last year at this time runningirl had the idea to see who could run a 1/2 marathon near the end of april... So in honor of that, whos up for a trail 1/2 or full marathon on april 25 in scenic SE Michigan. Or how about running one in your neck of the woods? Just finished my training schedule for the next 14 wks. Its gonna be a goooood time.” 7:55:59 PM 1/21/04 My First 15K Race “I ran it this morning with my father and brother and had a blast! My brother is the slowest runner of the three of us, so we let him set the pace. Finished in 1:20:58, unofficial time. They'll post official race times by Monday at the latest. The race was a lot of fun. I've found that at most races, the atmosphere is quite jovial... lot's of in-shape, health conscious folks united for a single event. In April, I'm planning on running a 15-mile trail race. A 50 mile ultrathon is also taking place, which my dad is running. I'll run the 15-miler, and then take over as his support crew.” 12:01:40 PM 1/24/04 “I ran my 3rd race this morning, another 5K, along the river walk in Bay City, MI. It was +5 degerees with bright sunlight when we started. The course was on sidewalks and bicycle trail; on 2" of crusty snow. It suprised me how much more work the snow made it. I did better than my first 5K, but worse than my 2nd. Just over 29. I have to confess, it's been so cold here that I've only run once since the New Year. In 2 weeks there's a 5 & 10K in Reese. I've never ran a 10. I'm gonna give it a try tho; I love this. Ditto what Artex said about the atmosphere. I'd never met any of the folks I ran with today yet they treated me like a brother.” 12:38:07 PM 1/24/04 “Nice going, le Subtil. Yes, if you feel you can do the 10k, go for it! It's addicting, once you start adding the longer distances. As you can imagine, running also keeps you in good backpacking shape, another awesome benefit.” 12:53:36 PM 1/24/04 “Artex, congrats on the 15k thats awesome. LeSubtil, kudos to you too. Sounds like you are hooked! Running outside in this weather is not my deal at all. My buddy and I were gonna do 6 miles outside today. I cancelled its just to hard for me to dress right for running in single digits. I am either too cold or hot,I cant get a balance.I dont have that prob hiking or x-country skiing but I sweat like crazy when I run. I am treadmill bound till we get rid of the wind and get above 15 or so.” 2:19:00 PM 1/24/04 “oh yeah... LeSubtil, how about a half marathon april 25? I have group of 4 so far, all first timers.” 2:22:28 PM 1/24/04 “Awesome Artex! 50 miles? Your dad is nuts! j/k Temps here have been in single digits to mid-teens with snow and ice on the ground but I ran the last 3 days. Thurs night for 1 hour, last night for 45 minutes and this afternoon for 1hr 10 minutes. I gotta burn off some of this winter fat.” 4:01:08 PM 1/24/04 “LOL @ Pennsy! Dude, winter hiking is supposed to burn more calories, what the heck happened?! In anycase, running burns calories like a mofo... and if the snow and ice stick around, and you can swing the dough for the X-country skis (you gear slut), that's supposed to be the best aerobic exercise there is. I plan on getting a pair for next winter to use for backpacking trips and exercise.” 4:10:04 PM 1/24/04 “Trust me, I'd rather hike than run. Local hiking right now is awkward. Not enough snow for snowshoes but enough to make bare booting a pain. I'd love to do the x-country ski thing but we don't get enough snow here to justify buying them. If were moving to Maine I'd have them in a heartbeat. Running works though. I have no ambitions like when I was a running maniac but it's a great way to get in shape.” 5:14:32 PM 1/24/04 “I didn't get out and use my skis yet and it's almost Feb. Just not enough snow this year, but that might change this week. The hiking has been slipperly locally because before it got cold it rained a few inches and froze. Underneath the few inches of powder snow is frozen ground and ice patches and it's hard to hike on steep slopes going up or down. It can be done, but it's slow going. More snow would make the hiking better or even a warm up to compact the powder a little.” 5:12:56 AM 1/25/04 “Artex, that is awesome that your father can run in marathons. There aren't any men in my family over the age of forty that have the knees for running. It is good to hear that you are enjoying your time with your family too, since you often mention moving north again.” 11:12:58 AM 1/25/04 “Yeah, that's one thing that will make moving back north tough. But the mountains and cold weather keep calling.... aaaaaaaartexxxxx.... aaaaaaaarttexxxxxx... jooooooooin uuuuuuuussssssssssssss.......” 11:21:34 AM 1/25/04 “how about a half marathon april 25? I have group of 4 so far, all first timers." birch Birch: Sorry for the delayed response. I'm interested, but leery of commiting and having others count on me. Is it a team thing or a relay, meaning, if I couldn't go last minute would it mess everyone else up?” 6:05:49 AM 1/29/04 “LS, it's an individual thingy and if you end up going at it with an "I might, really wanna, gonna try" type attitude you'll be doing the same as me.” 7:04:10 AM 1/29/04 “I want to do this and had already said yes. Unfortunately I've just realized that it is the same weekend as a big horse show I go to every year. Bowing out. Why oh why can't a person be in two places at one time????” 7:09:45 AM 1/29/04 “It would hurt too much? Blood loss? lol” 7:21:01 AM 1/29/04 “Ha! Sass, very true. How was your birthday? sorry you had to work.” 7:22:40 AM 1/29/04 “It was good! I got to meet Birch for sushi @ lunchtime and had loads of kind wishes from all over the country. What could be better? AND, I didn't have to run yesterday!!! =)” 7:29:45 AM 1/29/04 “hey, where is this half marathon. I'm interested in anything that can help me work up my endurance for the laurel highlands ultra this summer.” 7:30:53 AM 1/29/04 “It's in S.E MI, about forty-five minutes west of Detroit. Pinkney is the town, on atrail called Potawatomi trail. There's a half and a full. Email if you'd like more info....” 7:34:48 AM 1/29/04 “LeSubtil, definetly no pressure. If you make it GREAT! if not maybe next year. The cool thing is you can sign up on race day morning. It costs more but only like $5 or so. Dhutch, bummer that you cant make it!!! :( Oh well we can suffer together in may LOL!” 8:40:53 PM 1/29/04 “Finally back running again after a week-plus of zeroes (kitchen floor project, other stuff...). Had a very good run last night on my "hills of severe pain" course. Under 48:00 for 6.5, and the time included 2:00 of walk breaks, a la Galloway. Starting to get down to the time range that I used to do this course. 'Course it helps to be lightweight - weighed in at 153 the last couple days; that's 3 or so pounds lighter than before my string of injuries! Next race may be a 12k in mid-March from Marin into SF over the Golden Gate Bridge - one of the most scenic races anywhere....” 11:06:44 AM 1/30/04 “I have been looking for an April or May marathon to run. That Running Fit half in Pinckney looks fun. I was checking out the reviews at marathonguide.com and it does sound pretty tough though for a flat-lander like me. Some hill training may be advisable prior to tackling that.” 11:45:28 AM 1/30/04 “Hubcap, I've heard it's a killer, one of the toughest ones around. Talked to a guy doing speed training at the gym yesterday (for the Boston Marathon) and he said he did it once and never again, lol. If you wanna come up for it give us a holler and we can hook you up with a place to stay and standard TT hospitality (a spot on the floor for your sleeping bag) and a good breakfast.” 12:27:25 PM 1/30/04 “Bowlderman, that race sounds great. Congrats on getting back in the saddle. My next big race will be a 15 mile trail run in April. I may do a 5k or a 10k race in the interim. I've ran two races in the past year, and each time noticed the race packets have been really generous with stuff. For ~$20-$25 registration fee, the stuff they give you is worth at least five to ten bucks more than that. It really makes me not mind at all about paying the entrance fees.” 1:40:58 PM 1/30/04 “Hubcap, I did the half-marathon in Pinckney last year. It was AWESOME. I was only 8 minutes slower than my PR for a 1/2 marathon. Its a tough route but very, very fun. Lots of the folks that run it do no trail running other than this race. I do one day of hill-work on my treadmill each week to prep for this run. I am undecided as to wether I will do a 1/2 or full in april, we shall see. Like sass said c'mon over and join us .It'll be a blast!” 4:05:29 PM 1/30/04 “Today I ran as far as I ever have, EVER. A whole 5.5 miles, lol. When I finish the race I'm training for I'm getting a turtle tattoo because I am sooooo slow! Took me seventy minutes. =) I feel great though.” 12:09:00 PM 2/01/04 “Good going Sass, keep it up your times will get better.” 12:22:43 PM 2/01/04 Jump to Page << prev
