“Silver Fork Snowshoe 28 Dec 02 - Man, this was an awesome snowshoe. First we were going to go to Gobblers Knob, but the snow was a little thin. So we decided to go to Silver Fork/Honeycomb Cliffs. There was alot more snow here. We headed up the Silver Fork Trail which is beyond the Lower Solitude Ski Area. We hiked up the Road for a ways then we hit some serious snow. Ben, Zigs son broke trail, this guy was awesome. We just kept going up and up and up until we hit a basin, then we climbed up some more. The views up here were gourgous. We stopped for lunch at the botton of the peak, which was in front of us. At this point we all decided to give it a shot. We were going to go up threw the trees (to the left of the peak) and then take the ridge to the peak. We got to the Prince of Wales Mine, which was a bit of a challenge. From here we climb up a very steep part. We got to the ridge, but it was still a ways off to the peak and some serious snowshoeing ahead, so we decided to just stop here. The views from here, all around us was awesome. We stayed up here for a little while (there was not much room for the 6 of us). Now it was time to head down. There were alot of rocks still not covered with snow, so it was a slow descent. We took a little rest at the spot where we had lunch and took a last look at what we just did. I wish I had one last shot, I could have taken a pic of the spot where we were (just beyond those trees and straight up. You could see the Rock/Ridge where we stood. Everybody said that this was an awesome snowshoe. Rick said this is what snowshoeing is all about, we all agreed. We heading down and got back to the cars. On the way back to the meeting place, all we could talk about is what we just did. Again, this was an awesome snowshoe. http://community.webshots.com/user/wasatchwc” 12:14:04 PM 12/29/02 “Wow incredible views from up there... you really had a White Christmas with these two snowshoe trips!
