Lynn Swann is considering a run against Fast Eddie Rendell for governor. He was on the tube tonight, speaking at a Lincoln Day Dinner.

God he was funny. Stories about his childhood, college ball, and playing for the Steelers. Smooth as can be. If he runs, it will be a good race, and I have a feeling he'd mop up the floor with Fast Eddie.

Not sure about his politics though.

I heard that he was running just today.

Swann, from four Super Bowls to governor's mansion? "It's something I've got to look at, I've got to feel," Swann said as he arrived. "I have to talk to people around the state. I want to see how they think this will all pan out and what level of support they're willing to give me."

Yes, he's conservative and pro-life. Not sure exactly how conservative he is though. And the fact that he is African American does not mean he would automatically capture the African American vote. He undoubtedly would get some, but by no means a majority.

He is, as I said, very smooth and very funny. As of this dinner he had not made up his mind whether to run, but said he is considering it.

Do you think ANYONE from Philly would vote for him?
Tango

Oh, there would be quite a few votes here, but probably less than 40 percent. The right to life movement is fairly strong across the Commonwealth. Bob Casey Jr. is considering a run at Rick Santorum, which would pit two right to lifers against one another. But Philly is very strongly Democratic and liberal. Plus it would stand pretty strongly with Rendell in any east versus west and liberal versus conservative race. I think race would be less an issue that left/right.

You know what I say about male right to lifers?

Really. I got the impression that he's out of the Rick Santorum mold, but that may not be entirely accurate.

Still, it was a funny talk. He said when he went out for a football team, they put him on defense. He got run over on the first play and realized right then and there he was cut out for the offense. So they put him at wide receiver, but the kid who was quarterback did not pass.

He does have a great sense of humor.
